First one is not correct, Athletic Club De Bilbao are not technically in direct competition with Barcelona because the gap is seriously not close, plus Spanish clubs do not do such except the big three. The only thing keeping this deal off is the second opinion which is the financial difficulty that Barcelona is in. There president actually said they are out of this mess and can sign any player they want so even financial difficulty isn’t much of the thing.

What I think is the problem is that Barcelona do not want to overpay for the player and are willing to take this deal to the last day to force Athletic Bilbao to lower the price and also Athletic Bilbao are not closing the gate for other suitors because they simply want lot of money for their player
