in terms of prices between 2017 and 2019 it is very much different, where ethereum was able to follow the bitcoin movement. different from today, where when bitcoin rises, ethereum cannot follow it. I think it happened because a lot of investors have switched to invest their funds in bitcoin, and I'm sure that soon they will convert them to ETH

Very interesting comparison that analyzes holding ETH in 2017 vs holding it today... https://cryptotradernews.com/cryptocurrency/hodling-ethereum-2017-vs-2019/

Thoughts? I'm super happy to have swaped all of my ETH for BTC to be honest

When did you do the swap?
If you did that this month or last month then you made a wrong decision.
Look at ETH now @ very low price compare to BTC or USD.
This is the best time to invest anda wait with ETH.

One can make out the huge difference in price when comparing the price of Ethereum in 2017 to its current price in 2019. 2017 experienced a bull run and most of the ICOs which utilized the Ethereum Blockchain were successful hence Ethereum had high level of market demand during those time, hence reaching its ATH price of $1.2K.

If many people started talking about that the holdings of ETH is bad idea - for me it signal to buy. Ofcourse - holding BTC is the most talking about, but for big money better Ethereum.

Comparing Ethereum in 2017 and 2019 are two different things I must say. First comparison is 2017 is in bull run and 2019 is in bear market so we cant really compare the price of Ethereum in this two different era. But one thing for sure is that Ethereum will surely be very useful again in the long run. Smart contract kings I must say, no one can defeat.

In 2017, the market starts recovering from October onwards, now we are seeing the same situation in the market. ETH price is very high compared to current prices, yes, there are chances for ETH to increase its price with the futures they launching very soon. We need to wait for the market stability before ETH starts recovering its price.

Conditions in 2017, the dominance of Bitcoin is not too high compared to now so there is a chance the price of altcoin rises. With the current dominance of Bitcoin reaching more than 71%, I think this altcoin will continue to be depressed including ethereum but this also provides an opportunity for investors to accumulate good altcoin because of the low price

2017 is certainly different from 2019 both from ethereum prices and market cap values. Overall, market cap value of cryptocurrency market has fallen by more than 60% and this must have an impact on the price of every coin including ethereum. The price of ethereum is currently depressed against bitcoin and certainly affects also the US dollar but ethereum is still the biggest liquidity coin on the market after bitcoin

Holders of Ethereum have much anticipated for the bull run of Ethereum since it dipped after the 2017 bull. Most ICO projects which collected huge amount of enter are equally in the waiting for this moment. To achieve this bull run for Ethereum, the team must revise most of its strategies to meet the contemporary expectations of investors on the market. Now, it appears attention has shifted to coins that offer staking rewards to its holders.

We can make this comparison for every crypto entity other than Bitcoin. So it is not a very healthy comparison.

I think everyone who holding altcoin in their own wallet is regretful now. And if there is someone who is not holding any altcoins in his wallet, they are so happy now.

You are damn lucky man. Most of my Eth dipped badly when I held at $400+. I saw it all go down to below $200. However, I still believe that Ethereum is a good coin to hold. My opinion might be unpopular but I have a feeling before the end of the year, Eth will rise in price

I think 2017 was the golden year for Ethereum because that year ETH started with the price of $9 and finished almost $1K. Surely, people who invested in Ethereum made a huge profit. Now in 2019 Ethereum price dropped to $172 which indicates very poor performance from ETH. But, honestly, I take this positively because I believe Ethereum can hit $1K again in a year. So, buying ETH now would be surely profitable. Within mid-2020 ETH will hit $1000, mark my words.

two different times. 2017 being ATH from the crypto market is not just ETH. trade is high, adoption of crypto continues to increase. whereas in 2019, ETH did not increase too much. the effect of 2018 which brought the market and ETH down very deep, and now ETH is still struggling to make the best moments can be repeated.

The ether of 2017 is almost exactly the same as the ether of 2019, but now they have very different price and market position

Ethereum is going through it's first bear cycle. I have never had ETH only BTC. Recently I have bought some ETH. If it goes ATH you have a higher profit than BTC. I think ETH brings value to the table and can be a good number 2 coin. There are ETH ATMs... All good signs.
What I have seen is that alt coins always follow after BTC and the price will rise one BTC goes ATH and people start buying all kinds of altcoins.
I believe ETH still had some good years to come....

Bitcoin is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get !!

I would not say that you missed your step swapping your Ethereum for bitcoin, but those that are still holders of Ethereum has also not missed their step too, there is a season for everything, there was a time too that bitcoin was this down and people never had faith in it, remember also that bitcoin grew from $0 to $19800 and back to where is now, so if people had given up on bitcoin when it went down to $3000, would they be seeing the $10k growth right now on their investment.

We should not discourage the team of Ethereum, they are really trying their best, they cannot force people, and they can only encourage people. So it is left for people to decide when to invest heavily in Ethereum and I am sure that there will be a factor one day that will massively encourage people to put money into Ethereum market.

Diversification is really a good thing in investment world, and its your idea to convert all your holding, but i thought , you should have an ETH also, because this is a good project and still working right now, regardless of its price movements.

Correct, was late on investing though, I think it was around $300-$400 when I did enter Ethereum's market. But it still gives me a good profit 2018 when it touches it's all-time-high. Those are the days.

But we all know that Ethereum is still the best performing assets in altcoin. It went very hard just like the rest of the bunch, but it doesn't mean it cannot go as high as $1k in the future. It's just base on timing in crypto, right now though it is best to throw some money and put in Ethereum and just wait for it to bounce. It just needed once catalyst and maybe the plan Ethereum 2.0 in January 2020 will be the one.

Ethereum has a future if they can keep with the times and focus on innovation, why was ethereum going for 1400 at the peak times instead of 8 bucks like it started the year? Because, it was capable of creating a reason of purchasing, you bought eth to buy crypto kittens, you bought eth to fund ICO's which was billions of dollars in funding, you bought eth to build on blockchain app for it.

Basically, there was a lot of reasons to buy etheruem, right now there looks to be none, if ethereum team can create a reason once again so will the people follow and buy ethereum however if they fail to innovate and create new stuff than eventually they will be out of business and ethereum will go low while some other coin go up. I am not saying it will be zero but look at litecoin, at one time litecoin was the second biggest coin, silver to bitcoins gold, now its out of fashion, same could happen to ethereum.

exactly...
as much as i would like ethereum to rise again.
the competition doesnt sleep.
it could very well be another crypto that gets some major attention.
especially if these other platforms are quicker and have more to offer.

but if you talk about ATHs then you always have to consider the whole crypto market cap.
currently its $260,347,609,542
back in jan 2018 it was almost $800,000,000,000

as long as we wont reach this number again, no coin will explode.

In 2017 I sold all ETHs, because at that time the price was very good if we compare with the current one, and I also feel sorry for those who have bought ETH in 2017 and hold it until now, because the price comparison is very far away.
The step you take are very well and right, in 2017 Ethereum reached its peak and almost all Ethereum holders at that time made huge profits. But in 2019 the reality is very much different, Ethereum experienced a very drastic price reduction, Can Ethereum be able to repeat the achievement as it did in 2017 in the near future ...?
