I think it will not be cancelled and maximum it will be postponed until the next year as I think based on other similar viruses the timeline was 1 year like SARS which was active only one year.Some people are even suggesting to make it a virtual event with athletes for example running and timing themselves.Of course for me this is plain bullshit and I think many others will agree.

There's no need for cancelation. IOC and Japan already agreed to postpone and moved it to 2021. Now, with that virtual event, if i'm not mistaken someone suggested that NBA teams should just play nba live to continue the season, like where the heck is this suggestions coming from. LOL. It's completely non sense. Anyway, both Japan and IOC made the right decision. It's for the better.

I think that they can make Swimming World Championship  on same year, they just have to move it winter.

Don't think so usually athletes cant do more than 1 big event cause they need months or years to prepare their body for the perfect state before a competition.

For example, the need months on the gym to build their muscles and some months to eliminate the fat, this is almost impossible to do 2 times per year.

In addition to that, any other event in the same year of the summer games will have fewer players as you said and less sponsors cause they will have less players.

So even if hardly possible to do 2 big evens IMHO it will an economical "disaster" do 2 big events.

Yeah, it's all about the peaking for this kind of sports. Olympics other than team sports is all about individuals building up and timing their peak performance for a particular event. They know a year at least before the event even starts. Then their coaches and trainers are all marking the calendar to get the exact weight, exact nutrition, exact rest for the actual event. Olympics is for super peak in some sports but not for all. Tennis, for example will prioritize Wimbledon or other Grand Slam. Football, World Cup.

Yep, it really messed up the schedule of the whole sporting events for the calendar year of 2020. And it could also affect those athletes who are going to participant in Tokyo 2020 as their last hurrah. Maybe they couldn't make it if the schedule are going to be push thru 2021. Unless they can remain at their peak, however, when Father time comes calling, you can't really fight it. One good example is Federer and Serena, they are going to represent their respective countries, but if Olympics are going to be held in 2021 or later part of 2020, then it could affect their performances.

Just a long journey to prepare for all those athletes. Hope they will still be in good condition when this olympic finally resumes. Maybe at that time the virus has already contained and vaccine is already commercially available. Pharma industries are in the race. I think that should be enough for another preparation since they may all be slower by now with all the food they might be taking and not doing much in their house.  Twitter won't make you fit. 
You cannot even do a jog outside.
All you can do is exercise at home. What if you don't have the equipment or the space?

But for teams who will lose some of their players because of this freaking virus a year may not be enough to hunt another.

I personally don't believe that the Americans will be able to send a new dream team to basketball because of the overlapping term of the NBA season and the date of the Olympics.

I definitely don't think that athletes that are supposed to be in the Olympics this year will lose their form.

I would say that 90% of athletes in the Olympics are elite level and just because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the cancelation of the game will bring harm to their abilities. They will try to keep fit and focus whatever they can. Maybe doing some exercises in their home gym or other stuff that will keep them busy and stay sharp during this time. Yes, it's tough for them, actually everyone is suffering, but I'm sure they will adapt just like the rest of us. Even doing body weight exercises will keep them sharp and not lose those muscles.
