Situation in other regions was identical, all of these things were caused by withdrawal of NEP (New Economic Policy, click here) and replacement of this strategy with Industrialization (click here). It's well known that Ukraine wasn't an exception.

Lenin's NEP policy was incredibly efficient, RSFSR was able to develop a powerful agrarian sector and produce enough food for the people and even export significant volumes of production to europe. But this model  wouldn't allow a development of the industrial sector during the required amount of time before WW II come. That's why NEP was cancelled by Stalin. He then replaced it with own policy called "Industrialization and Collectivization". Massive famine came as the result, and continued until the middle 1930s. Industrial jump was achieved, but agrarian sector was disrupted which resulted in millions of deaths (Ukrainians, Russians, Belorussians, Tatars and many others). It's a terrible price for industry jump, of course.

So it's pretty easy to say that all of these "Tales of Exclusive Ukrainian Holodomor" are nothing more than a bunch of ridiculous bullshit. Anybody who are trying to use the victims of the Stalin's collectivization to achieve certain political goals, shall be severely punished. Because it's the worst crime against the memory of own people.

there were few leaders in russian history that managed to escape from external influence of the west. stalin is one of them, though lenin and other early revolutionaries were guided and supported/financed from abroad (just like today's ukranian self appointed shmuks). those few russian leaders are considered the greatest in terms of building sovereignty. russia has vast lands and resources, therefore can rapidly aquire strength and wealth as soon as hefty levy is stop being paid towards the west. russia has many occurances in becoming world leading power within couple of decades where it takes centuries for other resource scarce states to develop. they have ability, but are always compromised from within. beginning of 17th century, 1917, 1991. now they are on the uptrend and its the state, whose opinion must be considered, whether west wants it or not. to be honest, western leaders behave in a very arrogant and increasingly unappropriate manner.

I know that you can be (I doubt in this, but I'll try to imagine that your profile contains an actual location) american citizen, but seriously, how could you pretend to be better informed than our neighborhood?   Millions of people are crossing through the border every day. Many of them have a double citizenship and spouses on the other side of the border. Do you seriously think that their knowledge is lesser than yours? Really?
