I have been searching for topics that will somehow help empower the bitcoin community. I have been previously posting bitcoin friendly politicians and the list of their names in this forum. Today I will share to you bitcoin friendly cities. This maybe a boring topic but its better to read topics that can inspire the bitcoin community rather than negative and threatening topics.

The list is courtesy to https://www.investopedia.com/articles/forex/042415/10-cities-leading-bitcoin-adoption.asp

1 San Francisco, U.S.
2 Vancouver, Canada
3 Amsterdam, the Netherlands
4 Ljubljana, Slovenia
5 Tel Aviv, Israel
6 Zurich, Switzerland
7 Tampa, U.S.
8 Buenos Aires, Argentina
9 New York, U.S.
10 London, U.K.

After reading the article published by investopedia.com the common thing that makes these cities bitcoin friendly is the presence of merchants accepting bitcoins and the existence of bitcoin atms.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

This is a different type of topic but good to know because I have never thought of what's the most adopted city in it and now I know. Learning the reasons could be additional information towards understanding why people started to adopt the currency there and probably applying it to other cities as well.

For example, let's say that the people in San Francisco.
  • 13th most populous city in the U.S.
  • They have become the technology hub ever since the internet boom in the '90s [1]
  • Considered to be one of the most important city in the tech industry [1]

I think that's one reason why it's on top of the list, and maybe when people in certain cities start to accept the technological advancements with regards to Bitcoin, then it would continue to grow. Perhaps we will reach the global acceptance of Bitcoin one day.

I was actually expecting Japan as before those guys had good feedback about bitcoin but then I guess other countries like Israel had taken it away. I must say that the adoption in these 10 countries was insane, I mean look at the numbers, it tells everything.

Bitcoin has been around for more than a decade now, but it still has not reached global acceptance as a method of payment that many early adopters had hoped.

Well I guess, we need another decade or perhaps even more for us to reach this.

Surprised that I don't see any city from Portugal, Estonia or Malta in the list. As far as I know they are very crypto friendly. Most of the companies who start in crypto and want a legal functional license establish their headquarters there. I'm actually trying to contribute to make my city more crypto friendly. It is hard, but if we all do that, the compounding effect would be enormous.

Another article just wrote to make the quota for the daily news:

On the list:
Quote
7. Tampa, U.S.
The Florida city of 352,000 people has a surprising 93 merchants accepting bitcoin, more than most of the largest cities in the U.S., and 13 bitcoin ATMs.

Not on the list:
Prague
41 ATMs
147 business accepting bitcoin

Lately, I have the feeling that if you're mentally challenged you have higher chances of getting your articles published nowadays.

We are all hoping that more and more cities will also be categorized as Bitcoin friendly or one where bitcoin has become popular and accepted by more merchants or firms operating within the area plus of course the availability of ATMs where one can easily withdraw or convert one's Bitcoin into real, hard cash. I am not sure if we can include Manila into this list because there seems to have no substantial of businesses accepting Bitcoin here but we know that overall the Philippines is also very friendly to cryptocurrency. There are now many new cities that can actually be included into this list and I am hoping that by 2020 they can officially be recognized. Had there been a certain organization working for the interest of Bitcoin, maybe a group in each city can be stationed to promote this currency to all merchants. But there is none, so we are just relying on word-of-mouth, social media, mainstream media exposure and we hodlers/enthusiasts of Bitcoin.

Since there are few merchants or ATM machines that placed in Asia yet. The basis in ranking base on the thread is measured by the prevalence of Bitcoin ATMs in those cities as well number of merchants. And in my country Philippines it can still be count by hands or some merchants might be not listed yet or registered their business as accepting cryptocurrencies, maybe in other part of Asia too. I think South Korea and Singapore will soon be on the list, maybe in their next survey or research.

Wow, I didn't know bitcoin if well-known in these cities, Last 2017 I found some videos on Japan too. I guess bitcoin is famous there I found plenty of videos from Vloggers going into the store paying with bitcoin and the transaction is quite fast. Here is a sample video its amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AV8PW3IQOp4

Based on this older article, Los Angeles has even higher number of bitcoin ATM's and number of merchants accepting bitcoin. How could investopedia miss this? or could it be that the dailyhodl article is lying?

The City of Angels boasts being the entertainment capital of the world and home to some of the wealthiest people in showbiz. Los Angeles also prides itself on having an impressive number of Bitcoin ATMs – presently standing at 270. The city has a population of 3.9 million, with greater Los Angeles counting over 10 million residents and over 800 businesses that accept BTC. Los Angeles has over 45 Bitcoin meetups where ardent users of this digital currency can meet and share the latest developments and discuss ideas. With such growing interest, LA is very likely to outshine other cities when it comes to widespread adoption of Bitcoin.

There are other cities included there which aren't on the OP's list.

Its great, actually as far as I know there are some store in Baguio City that also uses bitcoin in purchasing a product and that means its a good news because it was getting adopted by many Filipinos and they are getting familiar on how a digital currency works like bitcoin. I haven't try it but i'm looking forward to check those stores particularly the cupcake one, because its a new wonderful experience for me and an opportunity that is surely worth it.

Well i never expected my country or even my city be part of the list although my country being crypto-friendly. But it's surprising that some places who I don't see much giving noise about bitcoin were actually part of the ranking and one of the places who are crypto friendly. Actually those countries were already developed unlike my country who's in the third world... Good list though

have a huge amount of stores that accept bitcoin. I guess bitcoin acceptance by the locals is not yet noticeable unlike the cities mentioned in the article.

It's surprising to know that no country from Asia is on the list. I have thought that countries like Japan and the Philippines would be included as Bitcoin friendly cou tries. I guess massive adoption is what we really need for crypto to grow in our country. Bitcoin ATMs also play a vital role to attract more merchants and investors. I just wish that there will be more Bitcoin friendly countries in the future.

I have been searching for topics that will somehow help empower the bitcoin community. I have been previously posting bitcoin friendly politicians and the list of their names in this forum. Today I will share to you bitcoin friendly cities. This maybe a boring topic but its better to read topics that can inspire the bitcoin community rather than negative and threatening topics.

The list is courtesy to https://www.investopedia.com/articles/forex/042415/10-cities-leading-bitcoin-adoption.asp

1 San Francisco, U.S.
2 Vancouver, Canada
3 Amsterdam, the Netherlands
4 Ljubljana, Slovenia
5 Tel Aviv, Israel
6 Zurich, Switzerland
7 Tampa, U.S.
8 Buenos Aires, Argentina
9 New York, U.S.
10 London, U.K.

After reading the article published by investopedia.com the common thing that makes these cities bitcoin friendly is the presence of merchants accepting bitcoins and the existence of bitcoin atms.
It seems many countries and cities start to adopt cryptocurrencies. If this thing is to keep on growing maybe some country will notice and they will also start to legalize it. It is good that at this current day many countries start to support blockchain technologies and cryptocurrencies and we all know that because of this we might see a great future in cryptocurrency. In our country which is the Philippines we also have bitcoin ATMs and in fact, some of the store here now accept bitcoin as payment.

article seem updated every time, Updated Sep 19, 2019.

i remember Buenos Aires, Argentina back when i still have a ton of DASH with me. there was an article where it announces a beach resort is accepting DASH, i already though of it would have been good to see fellows to send it to his wallet and provide me services in their resort, fine dining and all.

Its great to know that these cities already exists. We're nearing the age of adoption and bitcoin will surely lead the cryptocurrency race despite its volatility. Other countries also does not prohibit bitcoin, but the adoption by the public is just not significant to be included in this list. Soon, we might see bitcoin in transactions involving large amounts of money, eliminating the need of paper cash and instead, just having QR codes to bitcoin addresses for people to pay into.

If one basis is the existence of bitcoin ATM's. Well, it has missed other cities.

They pick 10 cities based on their metrics as is stated in the article, so it is not based only on the number of ATMs.

Several different metrics were used in compiling this list, including the number of bitcoin merchants in the city, the number of bitcoin ATMs, and the population size relative to bitcoin activity.

stompix, the link you posted is dated to Jul 31, 2018, and one related to OP is from mid-2019, so there may be some difference in that. We can also take the example of Austria, which has the highest number of ATMs after the UK, 194 in total, with 65 in Vienna. However, this is a subjective assessment of the author and how the data were collected and interpreted at the end.

For families wishing to spend their bitcoins during travel, it can still be difficult to plan their trips around the currency. Talking about bitcoin-friendly establishments, countries like Sweden have limited options, which means you have to do a bit of digging to find bars or restaurants that will carry cryptocurrency. Thankfully, some destination cities around the world are in the process of fully embracing Bitcoin's craze, and i have listed four of them.

Thanks for sharing an article about bitcoin friendly city, I am very happy with this news. It turns out more cities are adopting
bitcoin. I also hope that more big cities around the world will accept bitcoin. Apparently there are also many big cities in the USA
who accepts bitcoin, even though a lot of negative news about the bitcoin is banned by USA. I am very sure that in the future bitcoin
will be accepted globally, we will see how the next development about bitcoin .

Going through the entire list of bitcoin friendly cities each and every city is much advanced and a well planned cities. Following this we can expect more other small cities to follow and make the city get advanced. It is true that more the number of merchants accepting bitcoin, more will be the chance of getting into the top list of bitcoin friendly cities. ATM's in large number also gives awareness about the use of bitcoin, but the usage of these ATM's were very low.

it is good to know about this at least it gives the btc community an idea about some city that allow their merchants to accept btc for payment without been feel threatened, it is also a knowledge base for many, most btc enthusiast don't even know which country accept btc, i hope soon we can see more cities included in this list which are not accepting btc, one step at a time.

I agree since those big cities who are now engaged with bitcoin transactions there's  a big chance that even small towns will also begin to acknowledge adopting this system. It's good to see that there's already a well established cities who are bitcoin friendly, this steps can open doors to many opportunities in terms of adoptions.
Business sectors are the one that will generate more potential to users of bitcoin having more open minded businesses will make this chain very useful.

I thought there was a decently large city in Germany that had a large amount of acceptance all over the place. Maybe I have imagined it but I could have sworn the Germans were all over it.

Right, I think Germany has a lot of online stores that accept bitcoin or crypto in general. But based on the amount of ATM's, around the globe, https://coinatmradar.com/countries/.

San Francisco has a long history of being progressive, so it makes sense that they top the list.  What I would not have expected is for NYC to be on there.  I know crypto isn't illegal in any of the states, but NY state has had some regulatory statutes passed regarding exchanges if I am not mistaken.  None the less, NYC is the beating heart of the financial world (or at least in the U.S.) so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised they're friendly to crypto.

  • United States (3931 locations)
  • United Kingdom (279 locations)
That's very surprising to me that the top two bitcoin atm countries are the above.  I'll have to take a look at the site and see the distribution, but I always thought countries in europe had the atm situation locked down, especially eastern europe.  Guess I'm wrong about that.

Here in our country too, I can say that we do have a Bitcoin friendly City, as although most people are still not aware and still don't trust Bitcoin, still they respect all crypto users, they don't judge and condemn us, they are just asking for the benefit of it and once we explained, people are amazed and not creating any arguments.

Great job. But how come no Asia city made the list? South Korea is pro bitcoin, Singapore is there, Malaysia, Cyrus these nations have a friendly cryptocurrency framework and home to some major exchanges.

More cities in the Philippines are accepting and using Bitcoin as payment for products and services,

In Taguig And Makati City where you can spend your Bitcoin with their delicious Cakes and Cup Cake,

https://www.facebook.com/thebunnybaker
https://www.facebook.com/WirinCupcakery

And in Pasig and Makati you can also buy Bitcoin.
Using the Bitcoin ATM,
https://coinatmradar.com/country/169/bitcoin-atm-philippines/

Hope also this will be added to the list because more city in the Philippines are accepting bitcoin or they have ATMs and there is a lot of upcoming soon because my country is friendly country in the cryptocurrency because there is more way for the Filipino citizens to buy and sell bitcoin to my country. I hope my country will have bitcoin ATM to have more user here and get investors.

You can add South Africa. I don't know why you are adding different cities because here they are all the same. Many online shops accept bitcoin. If you want to add the cities they are Johannesburg amd Capetown. There are others but that are the main ones.

If anyone wants to know more just ask.  Cheesy

Dubai city from the United Arab Emirates is also a bitcoin-friendly city. Last year they launched the first cryptocurrency bank in the middle east together with bitcoin ATMs as well. People living in Dubai, UAE are now spending cryptocurrency with ease more like fiat currency these days i guess.

stompix, the link you posted is dated to Jul 31, 2018, and one related to OP is from mid-2019, so there may be some difference in that. We can also take the example of Austria, which has the highest number of ATMs after the UK, 194 in total, with 65 in Vienna. However, this is a subjective assessment of the author and how the data were collected and interpreted at the end.

Yeah, the article is old, but ...there will be quite a twist in the story.
The numbers in the old article are almost double, so if Tampa would have grabbed that place it could have done only by Prague actually losing shops.
Coinmap is not showing that:
https://coinmap.org/#/map/50.10120277/14.20532227/9  173 Prague but again the map not be updated.

Now, let's say the number of shops dropped so much to offset the clear advantage from the number of ATMs, don't you think we have all read that half of the shops accepting bitcoin in Prague have closed down?  Undecided

No, unfortunately, it's another article written for quota,.....oh wait it's even worse it's a 4 years article:
https://www.quora.com/Which-cities-in-the-world-accept-bitcoin-as-a-payment-method
It's a simply republished article with a new date.
See that the guy was quoting this link in 2018  Grin  Grin Grin

The article link is : articles/forex/042415/10-cities-leading-bitcoin-adoption.asp
April 24 2015 Tongue

But seriously now....

Quote
2. Vancouver, Canada
Bitcoin has a strong community in Canada, which was the first country to sign an official law regulating the virtual currency. Vancouver boasts 86 bitcoin-accepting merchants and an impressive 48 bitcoin ATMs. The city of 578,000 inaugurated the world’s first bitcoin ATM and is the headquarters of the Quadriga CX Bitcoin exchange.

Lol! That's not only the basis for the list. The article clearly stated that it's base on the number of merchants that accept bitcoin as payment and the number of Bitcoin ATMs. So obviously, Philippines isn't qualified, even though it's crypto friendly community. And admit it even us, bitcoin enthusiast, don't use those Bitcoin ATMs.

I'm surprised that the country I thought that are Bitcoin friendly are not in that list, like Japan and South Korea Even Turkey is not there, it seems country and city are two different things, some country that top the list in country do not have a city that is Bitcoin friendly, it seems the parameters is very much different when you apply it to country and to a city.

Where is this country? My country too in Philippines everyone are still in curiosity that what is bitcoin or crypto currency all about and want to know more. some people here is still don't believe that crypto is really do exist but they're willing to accept and learn it if this will also benefits them. however it is not easy for those who already know about crypto to share in everyone but still we are happy and hoping that they will accept it positively.

Watch out for this SPACE!

Did you read about San Francisco, U.S. city have adoption and friendly legal for using bitcoin or not, I think United State is not friendly country for using bitcoin as legal transaction payment, they want to banned using bitcoin. For Buenos Aires, Argentina I think is friendly for using bitcoin because the Argentina government's agree for legal bitcoin as transaction payment.

it seems like there are still many cities that are bitcoin friendly besides those mentioned by OP such as Malta, Tokyo, Seol and Queensland are some cities that accept bitcoin as a means of payment. Many outlets in Agnes Water in central Queensland that accept crypto as a means of payment. most of the city accepts bitcoin to attract foreign tourists to visit the city. with the increasing bitcoin-friendly city, it will make the crypto market bigger. and will probably make bitcoin toward mass adoption.

It's a surprise to me that Japan is not on this list

I've been in New York last April, and I thought that I would see a lot of places accepting BTC, but I was wrong, no signal of any crypto in the places I went

The largest continent in the world is Asia. Unfortunately, there is only a single city included in that list that is from Asia-- Tel Aviv in Israel. The list is dominated by cities in Europe and North America. But then I have reservations with this list. Japan, for example, has been strongly pro-Bitcoin. It is one of the earliest countries that gave a friendly hand to it. I wonder if there are not enough Bitcoin-accepting merchants and Bitcoin ATMs in Japanese cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, or Kyoto.

I am amazed at this news, I didn't have any expectation as much as higher, It's really a matter that almost 177 merchants in San Francisco who accept Bitcoin, in Vancouver, Canada also there are 48 Bitcoin ATM that's a massive figure, also it's looking very handsome figure that there are also several cities where Bitcoin is accepted, I think this is just the beginning of this era, but it hurts me when I didn't notice any city from Asia, That's not expected whereas the most of the participant from that Area, not only that but also the high density of population, Hopefully, Bitcoin ATM and Acceptance will be spread out around in Asia soon and the people will use Bitcoin for the payment method.

It is not a boring topic to me, it is in fact highly motivating seeing that at least we have US cities that are amongst them and these cities re still one of the top cities in America, and like you said, I think what can really make any city really become crypto friendly is if they can all start accepting bitcoin because for payment of things, without those merchant, even those that are willing to use their cryptocurrency to make payment will not be able to use it as they will not have anyone to spend it to.

We need to start encouraging lots of merchants to accept bitcoin if we really want an adoption rate to grow and that is where we need to begin from and not even all these cryptocurrency users or investors that we are all encouraging first. I have crypto that I would like to spend, but because of lack of where to spend it is what has discouraged me.

I am very happy to read this post. with the increase in cities that are friendly to bitcoin, this proves that bitcoin can become a global coin. and I am optimistic that this will be realized I will be patient waiting.
and in my opinion there are some cities that haven't been mentioned like tokyo Japan, seol south korea both cities are very friendly with bitcoin. because in Japan has made bitcoin as a legal payment tool.

I have been searching for topics that will somehow help empower the bitcoin community. I have been previously posting bitcoin friendly politicians and the list of their names in this forum. Today I will share to you bitcoin friendly cities. This maybe a boring topic but its better to read topics that can inspire the bitcoin community rather than negative and threatening topics.

The list is courtesy to https://www.investopedia.com/articles/forex/042415/10-cities-leading-bitcoin-adoption.asp

1 San Francisco, U.S.
2 Vancouver, Canada
3 Amsterdam, the Netherlands
4 Ljubljana, Slovenia
5 Tel Aviv, Israel
6 Zurich, Switzerland
7 Tampa, U.S.
8 Buenos Aires, Argentina
9 New York, U.S.
10 London, U.K.

After reading the article published by investopedia.com the common thing that makes these cities bitcoin friendly is the presence of merchants accepting bitcoins and the existence of bitcoin atms.

Soon many countries in asia will be bitcoin friendly too . I think most of the traders, bounty hunters and investors are in asia. Theres no doubt that in such time, asia will be a bitcoin friendly continent. So america, and europe will follow too. I have seen many articles that there are some projects like bitcoin atm machine are being used in asia too.

asia is friendly to welcome crypto too right especially bitcoin but from other country asia governments ,there are still many who are rigid in responding to cryptocurrencies ,hopefully Japan will bring its neighbors to be compact in bringing crypto into parts of digital currency that are accepted in all corners

Japan can play a vital role in changing the mindset of other Asian countries like India and Bangladesh as Bangladesh has banned bitcoin and India is yet to ban bitcoin officially but there are unofficial threats to the traders. Japan being a developed nation and known for it's perfectionism other countries will surely reconsider it's stance on crypto when Japan talks about further development.

1 San Francisco, U.S.
.
.
9 New York, U.S.

Agree with the list relativity. New York has a really big bitcoin community, and San Francisco does also. Definitely the two largest in the US, I think New York has been slow on the uptake, but if traditional finance gets involved, and should mention that's happening faster than before, there is a ton of institutional knowledge that San Francisco doesn't have. When it comes to trading which is at the heart of so many bitcoin businesses New York knows it's shit. In my opinion, San Francisco tends to focus on more speculative bitcoin technology, but some of the most interesting startups are located there. Way back when bitcoin got started, Benjamin Lawsky got this bright idea of having a licensing system for anyone that wanted to do cryptocurrency in New York State. The bitlicense was slightly terrifying.

Its really good to see such kind of positive topics being discussed here which promote the crypto and postivity around. The countries have accepted crypto to boost the financial status of their country and recognize themseleves as cryto freindly and you can trade there without any legal hinderances and earn good profits. There are many other nation also who promote crypto usage like japan but the number in the above mentioned countries is quite large which is good for its growth and adoption at global level.

Is this some sort of official census? What was the criteria for deciding the most friendly city? I mean it's hard to get a good sample space from almost every major city around the world. Merely counting number of atms isn't a proof of being the most friendly city. Moreover with Bitcoin transaction being anonymous I think we might never get an accurate result. Who knows if most bitcoin friendly city is Syria??

It's a surprise to me that Japan is not on this list

I've been in New York last April, and I thought that I would see a lot of places accepting BTC, but I was wrong, no signal of any crypto in the places I went

Basically, Japan is silent in terms of cryptocurrency. For me, the reason because of this is that, their government is allowing them to freely decide what's best for their economy, financial, and future. This the what the whole world should be. There's no reason for politicians to show their side on crypto if there's no issues about it. There will be peace when everybody is free and considering the limitations that crypto could bring.

It’s clearly stated  in the highlighted sentence that it was the Merchant accepting bitcoin is the basis of this ranks and not so ever so basically it’s just about their merchant things that my not really in function but still accepting bitcoin as payments
But it’s frustrating to not included Singapore and Japan since they are the safe haven of cryptocurrency

I really do expect that a city from Japan would be a part from the list because base on what I have heard there are a lot of merchants there who accepts BTC as a mode of payment there. You can even purchase a ticket from an airline company. It is also quiet surprising that there are a lot of cities from United States that are on the list which is quiet unusual in a sense that the US government is quiet against with this whole Bitcoin thingy, their SEC specifically.

Great job. But how come no Asia city made the list? South Korea is pro bitcoin, Singapore is there, Malaysia, Cyrus these nations have a friendly cryptocurrency framework and home to some major exchanges.

Because they have more power than Asian countries that's why the list are some famous and rich country who can help for Bitcoin or to be more popular because of those countries.

I think Asian countries can have such strong power because Asian countries  always give high appreciation about the creation of new technology and are very used by many people so that from very high demand in Asian countries should be able to enter the list of countries that have one of the influences important for bitcoin.

I actually live in a Bitcoin City!  Grin
But it's not on the list..   Cry

I'm from Arnhem Bitcoin City; in the Netherlands. We currently have 108 Bitcoin merchants and our city has 159.265 inhabitants (78.985 households). The city centre is nice and great to do a pub crawl. It's only one hour apart from Amsterdam, which is on the list.. but where you can hardly survive using bitcoins so I'm assuming they maybe meant Arnhem because sometimes people outside Europe don't realize our small country has more than one city Wink

We have real-time statistics on our website about all bitcoin payments in our city; at least when the merchant uses BitKassa (otherwise we wouldn't know). The stats show the monthly amount spent, number of transactions and number of merchants. Since you can also use Lightning Network at 99% of the merchants, there is a distinction made between on-chain transactions and Lightning transactions.

You can actually pay for ALL your daily needs in Bitcoin, including gas and barbers, dentist and supermarket, hotels, restaurants, etc. you should check it out one time if you haven't already visited it! We love Bitcoin tourists and if you let us know beforehand we can give you some advice or even organise our monthly meetup* in the period that you're there.

It's interesting though how many websites make a list of Bitcoin friendly cities and they all come up with different cities. I blame Coinmap, I believe that's where most journalists get their sources. We strived to keep our city 'clean' on Coinmap but in other cities you see that even webshops and boring offices show up on the map and businesses that don't exist anymore never seem to get deleted from the map.
Then also, if you zoom out too much, the numbers are grouped together and move to a different location so it's easily misinterpreted.

But besides that, you can have a different definition of a Bitcoin-Friendly city. Is it Bitcoin friendly because you can buy all kinds of different items with bitcoins or is it also Bitcoin friendly if you have 150 webdesigners accepting it? The number of inhabitants can be a measure but the total area also, but then in the Arnhem case: a great part is water or forest so you should actually only count the built-up region, or centre region of a city, perhaps. In 2014 we were named World's Most Bitcoin-Friendly City because in Arnhem people had to do less walking to find their next Bitcoin merchant compared to bigger cities (https://insidebitcoins.com/news/the-most-bitcoin-friendly-city-in-the-world ).

Anyway, I hope that we can have a "Top 100 of Bitcoincities in the world", soon! And that more Bitcoincities emerge! It doesn't really matter that Arnhem is not on the list as long as the other cities actually ARE great for spending Bitcoin but I have strong doubts about this list.. which is a pity actually. Especially when people come and visit one of those cities and get disappointed and even more if other journalists come and visit those cities and write nasty articles about Bitcoin being dead and all Tongue
They should definitely visit Arnhem. It feels like a warm home Smiley

* Our website: https://www.arnhembitcoinstad.nl
* Our monthly meetups are announced (if I don't forget) in this thread as well: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5093140.0

Asian country have friendly city for bitcoin as currency payment with many cities support using bitcoin, you can visit Beijing city and Tokyo using bitcoin as your currency without convert first with cash money, you can use your bitcoin for every transaction like buy ticket for travelling and buy your soft drink with bitcoin.

Adoption really plays a big part in Bitcoin's survival. I am actually glad that more and more countries and cities are using Bitcoin as their mode of payment. I haven't seen any merchant around me using BTC as payment but I know there are major cities whose merchants are using it as their payment option.

When it comes to adoption, Turkey is the first place followed by Brazil according to Statita https://bitcoinist.com/cryptocurrency-adoption-highest-5-countries/ .

It is good to see the mass adoption is taking place in every countries, here in our country although not mentioned there, still we are confident the adoption is already taking place here as you can see a lot of blockchain events taking place in different part of our countries, you can see people involved in it, and we do have a lot of users here as well.

It is good to see the mass adoption is taking place in every countries, here in our country although not mentioned there, still we are confident the adoption is already taking place here as you can see a lot of blockchain events taking place in different part of our countries, you can see people involved in it, and we do have a lot of users here as well.
It can't be called mass adoption unless we're talking about a large percentage of the population adopting Bitcoin, which isn't the case.... at most we can consider it a glimpse of some form of minimal adoption.

News outlets tend to exaggerate everything they write about just to make it look more bullish, while in fact, very few people actually are adopting Bitcoin and other crypto currency, so take their articles with a truckload of salt.

On a positive note, institutional adoption is happening as we speak with more legacy players entering the space, which I believe will help to stimulate the demand of regular folks to adopt Bitcoin.

Most people are waiting for this space to legitimize, which institutions help with.

BSV is not the real Bcash. Bcash is the real Bcash.

What can you buy in those top 10 countries with bitcoin? Can I buy everyday things or does it just mean that many people and businesses or services support bitcoin?
Could you maybe add to the OP some examples of the biggest or most successful bitcoin-accepting businesses? Could you also state whether or not they are physical locations you can exchange bitcoin in person or online.
Here it is still all online. I only buy online anyway. Private businesses and entrepreneurs you could approach and ask. I once got into a conversation about crypto with an only trader I was buying some plant seeds from and he said if I like I can pay him in doge or eth so I paid in eth.

Don't know hold old that article is but I can tell you that Amsterdam is less bitcoin-friendly than Arnhem in the Netherlands (which is actually the original Bitcoin City in that region, even before the others on the list! You may find more ATMs there for sure, and even Den Haag has more ATMs I think, but actually being bitcoin friendly like with a network of merchants? Nada.

@Annet I am so happy to see the network also active on this forum, I actually have talked about Arnhem many times here. Active stats still show good signs but I visited Arnhem myself last year on a short trip and unfortunately only found 1 shop accepting bitcoin -- granted I had only about an hour to walk around. I know about the website but I wanted to see for myself as a tourist to find out if it was super easy, but I will definitely make the trip again properly.

But you should post NOT in the local Dutch but in Meetups! I never found your Dutch thread till today!;)

Awww that's too bad you were only able to find one shop! Did you recognize it by the window sticker?

If you plan on returning please let us know beforehand, we can welcome you or give you tips Smiley I don't visit this forum very often but you can leave a message on our website to be sure that someone actually reads it in time, or join our Telegram group.

But you should post NOT in the local Dutch but in Meetups! I never found your Dutch thread till today!;)
Ah okay, will start a thread there as well! I thought maybe the audience for our meetups is looking in the Dutch section, but in fact yeah would love to welcome more Bitcoin tourists, so.. thanks for the hint Smiley

Me too mate I expect japan is in the list, but sad to seen isn't included in the list from the article, well" actaully we know new york is oart of the U.S territory and new york city is ine of the most city using and intersted all about technology, my is even the president of the united states is not believe into bitcoin as digital crypto currency it prove nobody can stop bitcoin because a lot of people understand well the capability of the new era of technology that's why the continue and asopt bitcoin, by the way it good to seen country in list is friendly contacts to support in the new digital money.

When it comes down to it bitcoin friendly will soon to be known as regulatory accepted in those countries over time. Undecided

I will add some cities that are also friendly with bitcoin because many cryptocurrency exchanges have emerged from that city and also many merchants and institutions that accept bitcoin as a means of payment. as :
Tokyo, Japan
Seol, South Korea
paris, france
Pregue, Czech Republic
bogoto, colombia
I am very happy to see each year the number of cities that accept bitcoin increases. this shows that bitcoin is growing and is known by many people throughout the world.

This is a  better news. Its good for their respective constituents to be free to earn and spend bitcoin. I hope it can also be in other cities. If those cities can then why can't with other cities? Its really just a matter of adopting it and the good purpose it brings to the people. Definitely those cities will be more productive and progressive.

What are you talking about? Do you honestly and truly believe what you are saying? Do you really think that the government's word is final? Lol, how ironic that the saying goes. "his word is law" which is what we are talking about. They can cry about it as much as they want. They can't just come and shut you down. Move your business online. Keep fighting it. Make it a horrible mission for them to do anything about it. There are so many legal ways to avoid such silly nonsense. Of course, this is the states we are talking about. World-renowned for ruining many things. Just read a history book.

It is strange that there is no Asian city on this list, I think a Japanese city, Korea or Singapore should be on this list.

I don't know if you're following Jack, CEo of Twitter? Lately he's been to Nigeria, and one of his reasons he went there was about bitcoin. And from what I've got to know, that country is friendly to bitcoin, people that are living there are freely making use of Bitcoin without having any problem with the government, and cryptocurrency keeps growing there.

I believe that would be the same for some other countries in Africa, there will be lots of them that are friendly with bitcoin and we just don't know it yet. And not only Africa, there are lots of countries that are accepting cryptocurrency and users have no problem with it. So, these countries you have mentioned here are not the only ones that are allowing their citizens to make use of cryptocurrency.

There are over 5000 Bitcoin ATM's in the world so it shouldn't be too hard to find a place to convert to cash.

1 San Francisco, U.S.
2 Vancouver, Canada
3 Amsterdam, the Netherlands
4 Ljubljana, Slovenia
5 Tel Aviv, Israel
6 Zurich, Switzerland
7 Tampa, U.S.
8 Buenos Aires, Argentina
9 New York, U.S.
10 London, U.K.

After reading the article published by investopedia.com the common thing that makes these cities bitcoin friendly is the presence of merchants accepting bitcoins and the existence of bitcoin atms.

Hmm i find it very strange to not see Tokyo listed in there, consider that Japan was the first country to allow bitcoin officially.

I wouldn't use number of ATMs as metric, shops accepting bitcoin, and employers paying with bitcoin are more interesting in my opinion.

The topic is not boring at all, its always interesting to see these metrics periodically to measure worldwide adoption.

How is Japan's none of the city published here ?
Because we know how Japan has been so friendly when it comes to cryptocurrencies, we are more likely to run into stores accepting cryptocurrencies and at the same time I think it is the first country that have been so okay with the idea of cryptocurrencies.
I think even Japan should have been in the list.

Without further information and data, I can say that bitcoin is really popular to the world. Many traders are converting their assets into btc specially when bull run came. Imagine, from zero value of bitcoin up to almost 20K dollars. I think the capability of bitcoin to move upward direction fastly will be the proof that there are bitcoin fanatics. In addition, these cities also promoting bitcoin. I hope many country will still intrigue in crypto space.

I am surprised to see 3 cities from US. I thought Bitcoin is not popular in US but list shows many merchants across popular US cities accepting Bitcoin. In Asian countries I think Japan, South Korea and Sigapore are major contributors which are not there in the list.Vancouver is a big business hub of Canada, its great to see that merchants in Vancouver are pro Bitcoin. I am sure list will grow with next bull run.

For me all the countries on the list have proven they are developed countries and recognize bitcoin or legalize by accepting bitcoin as a transaction tool, this is something that can pump crypto to develop even more advanced in many other developed countries, maybe a few more years a bitcoin ATM will spread in all countries and become the main transaction tool

I do hope that in the Philippines, even though it's not yet confirmed it was a bitcoin friendly country, ATM services should be opened to different City around the country. On that idea, it has a good effect on the demand so people can be properly oriented with digital currency if it would be openly accessible anywhere.

And admit it even us, bitcoin enthusiast, don't use those Bitcoin ATMs.
There's a bitcoin ATM right near me and I would have used it if it were functional, but it wasn't.  I probably would have tried it out but wouldn't have used it more than once since the asking price for bitcoin was waaay above the market price and to me it was kind of a rip-off.

There might be bitcoin-friendly cities, but there ought to be a larger measure of crypto-friendly cities.  I'm watching a youtube video right now that shows how Dash is being adopted in Venezuela, and there's even a Dash-themed coffee shop there.  I don't really know how much adoption Venezuela has seen, but it does look like Dash and probably other cryptos are actually being used to purchase things.  I'd call that pretty crypto-friendly, though I don't know about the friendliest city in that country, probably Caracas.

Anyway, it's a good list but probably doesn't accurately reflect popularity around the world.

Japan is really a highly accepting country when it comes to bitcoin, in fact Japan didn't backed down and abandoned bitcoin despite of the move of the other two asian countries against it, specifically China and Korea. During those times when China implemented the banning and usage of cryptocurrency on their country and Korea prohibiting anonymous transactions, Japan remained unbothered and unshaken.
What I think became the reason why Japan isn't included to the list of the most bitcoin friendly country imspite of their good reviews and adoption to it, is because they only have few bitcoin ATMs on their country.

I heard they were wanting to build an island that ran on #BOTCOIN I doubt it is true but just curious if you have that on the list or not lol. It would take alot of BTC to build bitcoin island. Also I did not know that New York was Bitcoin friendly either!

I am not surprise at all, because as fas as I can see there are a lot traders and investors in US, aside from US we can see that ASIA is the next to it, specially Japan, they have one of the advance technology among other country as well, there could be be no doubt that sooner or later they will completely adapt blockchain technology in every companies in their country.

A few unique measurements were utilized in gathering this rundown, including the quantity of bitcoin shippers in the city, the quantity of bitcoin ATMs, and the populace size comparative with bitcoin movement. Bitcoin maps like the community oriented one offered on coinmap.org enable you to see current bitcoin-tolerating organizations by city or nation. So also, Coin ATM Radar shows the areas of bitcoin ATMs over the world.

Here are the 10 driving urban communities, positioned arranged by the most grounded bitcoin nearness as of mid-2019:

Clicking Here

1. San Francisco, U.S.

2. Vancouver, Canada

3. Amsterdam, the Netherlands

4. Ljubljana, Slovenia

5. Tel Aviv, Israel

6. Zurich, Switzerland

7. Tampa, U.S.

8. Buenos Aires, Argentina

9. New York, U.S.

10. London, U.K.

I have been searching for topics that will somehow help empower the bitcoin community. I have been previously posting bitcoin friendly politicians and the list of their names in this forum. Today I will share to you bitcoin friendly cities. This maybe a boring topic but its better to read topics that can inspire the bitcoin community rather than negative and threatening topics.

The list is courtesy to https://www.investopedia.com/articles/forex/042415/10-cities-leading-bitcoin-adoption.asp

1 San Francisco, U.S.
2 Vancouver, Canada
3 Amsterdam, the Netherlands
4 Ljubljana, Slovenia
5 Tel Aviv, Israel
6 Zurich, Switzerland
7 Tampa, U.S.
8 Buenos Aires, Argentina
9 New York, U.S.
10 London, U.K.

After reading the article published by investopedia.com the common thing that makes these cities bitcoin friendly is the presence of merchants accepting bitcoins and the existence of bitcoin atms.

Wheres Japan? South Korea and some of the south east asian countries. Please include them, they are nearing their SEA games in the Philippines and they attention too. These countries are somewhat friendly with regards to bitcoin.

Well, yes. I am expected that the US is one of the most have a lot of investors who had to adopt blockchain technology. Since they are fully developed country there are too many rich people who can afford to spend money when it comes to investment. Aside from that, South East Asia also is a Bitcoin or other crypto-friendly city. But I dont think China before they are against to Bitcoin but now they are adopting blockchain technology.

It seems like bitcoin has been garnering respect all over the world from time to time. We should expect that sooner or later, bitcoin will be dominating the world making revolution to promote the convenience and advantages of using it. We are currently in the time of transition where the use of fiat is getting close on being outdated. Expect it that sooner or later, crypto will be used in many transactions and will be included to the everday life of many people all over the world.

You better not trust Nigerian government that much if you consider the type off tyrant president that they have now and the reason why you might think they are friendly with the bitcoin is because they have still not had time to pay attention to it which they are busy dealing with their oil and corruption, if bitcoin become so popular in Nigeria with the little that I know about them , I hope that their president will be able to underhand it and not see it as threat as he is seeing everything as threat to him even to his vice president.

Nigerians are the ones that I can really say they are very friendly to cryptocurrency and they respond to the use of it because I have so many friends there but I would never trust their government.

Africa is friendly to cryptocurrencies in general. I know about the positive experiences of Dash, TRX and Bitcoin in Africa. Nigeria is especially good at that. I am sure Africa will dominate the adoption of crypto around the world and i think its pretty good!

Such usefull information. I'm so glad in seeing these kind of active places where bitcoin has become an important currency.

That will also bring new investors to the market, new users and more adoptation making it a more interesting subject to measure on real world currencies discussion.
The more people it gets involved the more government will think in using it as a legalized currency product for fiat involvements.

We are seeing a more positive side from those cities as bitcoin price has become so more stable above the 6k dollars.

Nothing to see here

How is Japan's none of the city published here ?
Because we know how Japan has been so friendly when it comes to cryptocurrencies, we are more likely to run into stores accepting cryptocurrencies and at the same time I think it is the first country that have been so okay with the idea of cryptocurrencies.
I think even Japan should have been in the list.

This is not a complete list. Definitely here, less than half of all existing Bitcoin friendly cities

I would like to add Mexico to the list because two months ago the Fintech law comes to bring some order in the cryptos and now you can have bitcoins in the correct way.

It's a legal coin but there are not much products to buy with the coin in the country, So is good for trading, gambling, and web business...

Japan might have an influence in the cryptocurrency knowing that the creator of bitcoin sounds like a japanse, but not necessarily means they are putting much of their time in cryptocurrency and even utilizing bitcoin to their local lifestyle.  There are exchanges from japan listed on here: where they can buy Bitcoin. But in comparison to other country, the difference is the implementation of Bitcoin as well as the push that they can get from their authorities.

I would like to add Zadar from Croatia on this list.
As you can see here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5168879.0  state owned Croatian post started very important pilot project in local post offices in Zadar (very famous tourist area by the way).
Now, we can go to the local post office in Zadar and exchange our crypto to fiat, what is really very convenient for users, specially tourists from other countries.
I can generally say that the government is friendly to the crypto market and we already have several crypto companies in the country.
The tax office has already given instructions on how to pay crypto earnings tax and if the crypto funds are kept for at least 2 years in the wallet, no tax will be paid as this is then a long-term investment.
