I don't think that there is a proven strategy that works when you want to cover your loses. If there is, then no one would be losing and casinos would have to shut down. Casinos live out of people that wants to cover their loses.
However, there are people that have good self-control and are able to end one period (a year) on a plus side. But in order to do that, gambler should not try to cover their loses but play each ticket like it's a first one.

I never extended beyond that point or it is just I am not aware that I'm not in control anymore because I always think that I can get back my losses if I keep playing with higher risk.
