Does anyone know if it's possible to start the client specifying a different location for the user data?  I'd like to use a different location than the standard C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Bisq in windoze.

hi, i am not 100% if you can do that but it sounds not too much of an unusual thing someone might want to try.
i suggest to maybe search the Bisq forum or join the keybase channel to ask more questions, as mentioned above on keybase is a #support sub-channel where some volunteers could answer your questions. when i had more specific questions or problems it was always the best place to go and ask.

are you trying to run keybase on your PC or on your phone? i think it should be secure, it comes with end to end encryption by default and all the Bisq Devs and other contributors and community members are using it as well.
but sure, up to you, maybe search the forum first and maybe try to check on github if this has been discussed before.

hi this is basically a decision made by the Bisq community. the listing of tokens or coins can be suggested in proposals and discussed further on keybase or github.

but right now, new asset listings are on hold while a better policy is determined. please see discussion on this proposal for background.

Statement on Critical Security Vulnerability

About 24 hours ago, we discovered that an attacker was able to exploit a flaw in the Bisq trade protocol, targeting individual trades in order to steal trading capital. We are aware of approximately 3 BTC and 4000 XMR stolen from 7 different victims. This is the situation as we know it so far. The only market affected was the XMR/BTC market, and all affected trades occured over the past 12 days.

Bisq v1.2, released in late October 2019, updated its trade protocol. It improved decentralization by removing arbitrators with a 3rd key in the multisig escrow used for bitcoin trading funds. These arbitrators were replaced with 2 new roles: mediators and arbitrators with no keys in the multisig escrow. With no more trusted third parties, the new trade protocol also required that trade parties move bitcoin trade funds to a Bisq “donation address” after a hard time limit in order to solve dead-locked trades.

This donation address is set by the Bisq DAO and approved by DAO stakeholders. Bisq software did not verify that the payout address for trades was actually the Bisq donation address set by the DAO before signing and sending the time-locked payout TX to the trade counterparty. In plain words, this exploit was the result of a flaw in the way Bisq trades are carried out, not in the way funds are stored (i.e., there is no honeypot since Bisq is P2P).

As soon as this attack was discovered, Bisq developers used the alert key to disable all trading on Bisq. The flaw in the trade protocol has been corrected in Bisq v1.3.0, now released. Bisq is properly peer-to-peer, so alert key functionality can be bypassed by users, but this is highly discouraged.

A proposal will soon be created in the Bisq DAO, Bisq’s funding mechanism, that will aim to repay the 7 victims from future trading revenues.

Security has always been a top priority for Bisq, but this incident shows it wasn’t perfect. The project is evaluating several approaches to strengthening security reviews and practices even more, and will detail them soon.

In the past 4 years of operating on mainnet, Bisq has never had to use the alert key to enable “safe mode” on Bisq nodes, and this is an unprecedented case for the Bisq DAO. The Bisq developer community sincerely apologizes for this security failure.

v1.3.1 fixes a bug that marks valid trades as failed trades, and it also improves delayed deposit transaction verification.

I haven't used it for a long time. But I can remember that the number of direct trades for Fiat (Sepa) <-> BTC was very small. Is it still like that?

Hello,

I just used Bisq for the first time. It isn't very intuitive to say the least. Once I figured out enough, sent BTC to my wallet, took an offer to sell BTC, said to Bisq to use my BTC balance for the trade to keep it simple, it started doing its thing, and after 30s, "transaction not completed in 30s". And that's it, it's failed, Bisq has taken its fee, my BTC is in limbo waiting for confirmations despite having paid high fees, and nothing else happens.

I'm told I can ask for a fee refund on github.

Version 1.5.1 there is an annoying bug.

The application doesn't detect the blockchain confirmation and doesn't update the trade process and stuck in a phase.

Bug in examples:

-Bitcoins are transferred but the application doesn't detect a confirmation hence the trade cannot continue.
-You're selling bitcoins, the buyer initiated the payment and you receive it but you can't confirm to then release the bitcoins. In another word, you can't finish the trade but the timer continues to go. After the initial delay, I won't be surprised if I lose my security deposit because I didn't respect the protocol (which I can't since the application is buggy)

I'm trying to resync the SPV file with the hope it does something positive otherwise I won't be able to do much:/

It looks like that Bisq exchange is going to start using Liquid network (centralized federate Bitcoin sidechain) as their base protocol, and regular Bitcoin protocol will be available only as alternative option.
I understand the need to do something and try lowering fees but I don't understand why developers have to use almost dead chain like Liquid that is centralized solution dependent on kyc and limited number of people.
Bisq should be all about privacy and nothing is finally decide and there is Bisq github topic investigating new trading protocol:

Bisq will work to implement support for Liquid as a base layer and become a Bitcoin Layer 3 Network on top of the Liquid sidechain. For those who wish to keep using Bisq as a Bitcoin Layer 2 Network on top of the base layer Bitcoin blockchain, this option will still be available.

Bisq exchange is going to add USDT Tether coin from next release, and I think this could be very good for increasing their overall trading volume, but I still don't trust any stable coin that can be frozen or get transactions reversed like in case with USDT:

Does anyone here have the latest version of the application installed?

Since I did update to the latest version, the application got stuck. The connection to the Tor network does not work for me. I've tried deleting the obsolete Tor files but nothing works and changing the bridge is not applied when I restart. So I'm not able to try with obsf3 or another.
Now I'm out of ideas other than removing the application and use a backup

That sucks when you only have a few hours left to confirm a transaction. The previous update was a huge optimization but this one is like going backwards

Bisq exchange is working on big update for their new version 2.0 with massive UI changes and improvements.
This is not released for public yet, current version is 1.9.2, but according to screenshots I saw this looks amazing and it improves privacy.
There is a new welcome screen, Nym profiles are available, and you can simply navigate with clicks and sliders, Lightning, Liquid, etc.
It appears to me they hired some new people to help them make it very easy to onboard new users to Bisq.
What do you think about this changes?

Bisq has a new update as of 10 days ago, it's now up to version 1.9.4.  One improvement is an update to the latest version of Tor, which improves network reliability.  The other significant improvement is the implementation of derivative Monero addresses, (sub-addresses) which can greatly improve privacy if you use Bisq to trade XMR.

This is a follow-up release that adds the latest Tor version (v0.4.7. to improve Tor connectivity.

I'm anxious to play with it, and hopeful we'll see a beta release in the next few months.  Unfortunately there isn't a set timeline for 2.0 release, but I expect some of the features will be implemented in minor version updates of 1.9.x as they get validated.

It's important and good thing they are working on this major improvements, and I think they are going to release some beta version for testing in next few months or by the end of the year, unless something major changes.
I would like to see more people using Bisq, and not considering it as some complicated boogeyman exchange.
Bisq is currently available for desktop os (with mobile notifications), but it would be cool to have some basic mobile exchange version as well.
