Yes, they need time. BUT, it has to be at the reasonable amount of time. You can't just let the project do whatever the fuck they can do for 2 years without any progress, they should have a solid roadmap and schedule to actually achieve something. Look at Exscudo, they are still in development but no progress achieved and  rewards nothing.

Adjuctly, for example bitcoin alone takes around 10 years to reach a price above $10,000, but for a new crypto project I think it will need very long time cause they need to promote their project worldwide along with proper roadmap,whitepaper and so on. because of this, there is a roadmap that encourages them to do the development they should be doing. although it does take time, we need to know that investors will continue to assert their rights. So, as developers, we need to focus on that. I feel that a project can be threatened with failure just because it doesn't follow a concept that they make themselves. many of them are always delaying or ignoring their roadmap.

Investors want to give time if the project is real like Dash, XMR, LTC not all projects. Actual projects need time, i agree but waiting long time in maximum projects will lose your money, time and labor. If a project develops regularly, it will grow in future but so called projects will vanish if you wait.
