Yea, the risk is low but hmmm, aside from bitcoin and Ethereum that has been going well so far, all coins have their side and as an investor, we only hope it turn out to be the best we want.
There are situations where 51% attack happens to some projects, the recent one that occurs was Bitcoin fork BSV. When this happens, their is likely chances of double spending which may live your investment down the drain.

New altcoins can only be allocated 25% only compared to top altcoins because new altcoins are difficult to analyze with certainty future development potential, most new atlcoins are just initial trend due to influence of famous people and then projects fall without returning in market price.

Top altcoins are highly recommended to be the main choice in investment including for beginners and investors, if you choose a new altcoin then you have to be prepared with the risk of loss because new altcoins are difficult to last long in the market and there are too many scam projects now so don't be tempted for fictitious profits on new projects

my friend paid from some bounty, it just new project. after it, he start convert the other money to that project. actually, my other friend and i, suggest him to invest in other popular one, but it just happen. holding for a month and he take just a little plus from what he did.

yes, I totally agree with your opinion. because the top altcoins will be safer to use than new altcoins to invest in. but not only beginners should use the top altcoins but until now I still use the top altcoins to be traded on various market exchanges. I myself have known crypto trading since 2017 but until now I still use the top altcoins because I consider everything safe and there are no frauds from it.

Investing in the top altcoins should be a no brainer for the newbies getting into cryptocurrency investing because the top coins are top for a reason and most of them have a track record of success and most if them have good teams and a defined rodamap and also a proof of concept. Am not sure anyone is saying that all new projects is a scam. What they mean is that most people get scammed from new projects more than old existing projects. This is true most times because some of the new projects do not have known team members and can not be traced when they scam and that is what most of them do. They abandon their projects and run away. The advice is for people to avoid new projects and save themselves from lost of cash.

The point of all of this is that these things where you do decision making stuff and then make all these research and research all boils down to the fact that it is still the newbies choice what coin he will be putting his money into. It might not seem right to me to think that all the top coins are safe. There are a lot of coins here that I don't think are very safe. When it comes to investing, one should check whether the coin is serious or not. I think Bitcoin and ETH are good choices for beginners to start with. Because I don't think there is a need to go any further in the beginning.
