Which notification you didn’t get? So far I haven’t gotten any more downtime alerts nor have missed anything on my end (afaik).

I can't talk for TryNinja's bot, but my scraper hasn't missed a single post since theymos whitelisted it (yesterday evening).

The issue here is that bot creators can't do much more. So we really have to wait for the situation with Coludflare to be normalized.

Cloudflare doesn't block the whitelisted bots anymore.

Your bots and scalers are assets for the forum and the majority of us, the users, do not realise that until something breaks (IT curse: “When it is running smoothly, nobody thanks you, when something breaks, you are the one to blame!).

As I am not an über technical user, can you explain to me what is triggering this cloudflare impossible mode? As I understand it is not forum related, so it is probably something else. Are other services hosted on cloudflare affected?

It is possible in Cloudflare to define several IPs that do not need to pass through your filters.

It has less to do with what user agent or scraping program or library you're using, and more to do with what IP address you have.

If your IP address belongs to a data center, expect to get blocked by Cloudflare, because datacenter IPs have a higher "threat score" which basically means a spammer is more likely to own one. It's only natural that this is the case, since most ISPs won't allow you to use a residential address as a hammer.

Cloudflare has a console for each website that is connected to a Cloudflare account. I have one for my own site, for example.

Cloudflare is used to stop DDOS attacks. See theymos' 2017 topic: Moving to Cloudflare. If the DDOS gets worse, Cloudfare starts more measures to stop it. TL;DR: without Cloudflare, the forum would be offline now.
From what I've seen, those measures include checking the browser before any page can be accessed. And since scrapers don't use a browser, they can't get through. I guess, to Cloudflare, a scraper looks a lot like the spam DDOS causes.

As much as I dislike Cloudfare, it's not an "issue". It's how DDOS mitigation works.

If your IP address belongs to a data center, expect to get blocked by Cloudflare, because datacenter IPs have a higher "threat score" which basically means a spammer is more likely to own one. It's only natural that this is the case, since most ISPs won't allow you to use a residential address as a hammer.

I tried mentioning myself but didn't get any notification that is why I thought still the bot is not able to scrape posts and give notification. But today I received notifications when someone else quoted my post(s).

I also confirm that everything works smoothly again. Got mention and merit notification as usual. The merit count continue from before the cloudflare incident happen, though, probably due to the reason stated by TryNinja, and that the total merit received during the down time is not registered by the bot. So people, you might want to manually reset the merit count.

TryNinja seems to work on the telegram bot to improve it daily constantly. A few weeks ago, I noticed that each notification showed a new icon or emoji, whatever you say—different icons for merits and mentions. Yesterday I noticed another improvement.



Before this, we had to search for the posts that were deleted. Some users count their posts when they write posts for signature campaign requirements. I write more than 50 posts a week, so it's not for me. But, this will be useful for everyone.

BTW, many members are using the bot with incorrect merit counts due to a recent Cloudflare issue. Eitheir they did not notice, or they don't know how to fix it. Is there any chance you can fix it by bulk for all active users? TryNinja

That should be possible: I have all theymos' Merit data dumps, up until last Friday morning. Tomorrow morning it's updated again, and if TryNinja finds the cut-off in Recent merit, that should give the updated total of earned Merit for each user.
It gets a bit more complicated if you still need the airdropped Merit for each user though.

Or just ask the BPIP guys: Most earned merit seems to be correct.

I could code something to manually check all profiles (last time I checked it was only 500+ users) and correct their merit count, but I can’t do that right now as I’m still traveling very far away from home (in Japan) and have no laptop with me.

It's still not perfect: the Merit count in a profile doesn't instantly update after receiving Merit. Testing this earned me a "Sorry, you have been blocked" from Cloudflare when using Shift-reload a couple of timse.

That’s right, but the idea was to check profiles at moments when no merit tx could be involved, so the count would probably be correct. Could even check twice (i.e another time after ~30 min) to make sure data is correct.

I come to know about this bot and trying it for the first time. I found it very easy to configure and interactive too. My motive is to get a notification whenever anyone posts in the Pakistan local thread, i get a notification. I hope it will work that way.
Also, i have configured it for merits and mentions.

So, this is the first time you use this bot?. I don't know the reason why you didn't use this bot when it existed for quite some time already and I have been using it since. Since there's no board for Pakistan like the others but there's a board where there's a pinned thread for other countries that doesn't have their own official board in the forum. Actually, you can track the thread using the bot.

First, go to other languages/locations located near the bottom of the forum. Second, open the Pakistan thread and copy the link which is this, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=232519.0. Third, go to your telegram and open the bot. Fourth, type /menu or you can just click it then open tracked topics. Fifth, click the "Add New" and then it will ask you the url of the thread and paste the link.

I checked the notification twice and then checked the forum. Then I realized it was a glitch notification that I had received twice, and my merit count was also affected.

Probably TryNinja started doing something? Or are you still on Vacation and have yet to buy a new laptop? We have to use the famous /setmerit command again.

Just to make sure, you received a notification for X merits correctly and the next day you got that same notification again?
