I think that one of the things that detracts from the popularity of chess among gamblers is that simply many do not see it as a game in which you could bet, the nature of many of the games in which you can bet includes a very important random factor or at least is not heavily reduced, but in the case of chess this factor has been reduced to the absolute minimum, so many do not consider very exciting the idea of betting on a chess match compared to the way they would do so for a soccer match.
But with casual games in about 1-2hrs, I don't think it would be good for betting. But with 2 players each game, betting in chess really fits as your chance of winning is 50% With same quality and skills between two opposing players, I agree that the chance really belong to 50% chances. With how the game played with lots of founding strategies, it will takes longer time, opposing player will keep looking for open chance to finish his opponent while the defending player will keeps on trying to find moves to keep it going and try to make a good move to change the direction of the game.

Honestly, watching a chess match even if it is an official tournament or not is not as thrilling compared when you are watching other sports or e-sports. And it will not create that much demand if it will be included in sport books.
Watching chess matches can be boring for those people who are not really into playing chess. Of course they will not enjoy it like most of the players that are watching the game because they do not fully understand the game. Actually chess is a thrilling game specially if they reached the middle game and the end game. Chess is actually included on sport books dude. I guess games that are not characterized by lots of sounds, physical movements or easy-to-understand rare patterns can be boring to people who don't understand or find them interesting. I suspect that if you add some loud and fanciful sounds/movements/effects on television-based chess, lots more people will begin to like it

There's a bunch of streamers on twitch that's playing chess right now and you can't believe that it has a lot of viewers. One of those popular streamers is GM Hikaru, he also played on those tournaments that I've mentioned. Even the top 1 overall rating, GM Magnus Carlsen, is also streaming in twitch.
We all knew that most popular games are LoL, CS:GO, Dota 2, and Fornite but recently, a medieval game which is chess, climbed to the top of the most played games in twitch. This game is a sport and can even be considered in eSports since it can be done electronically so I hope there are gambling sites that consider this game on their platform.
I did not really knew about chess online being streamed on twitch, until I read it here. Chess is a sport, and through technological adaptation people were able to play it online. Because of that people should recognized it also as an e-sport. I guess, it will be good to have gambling sites that is mostly dedicated on chess betting, or even to play chess and battle other online gamblers to win cryptos or fiat. I know that it will only have small market, but some gamblers might also turn into it because chess is purely not based on luck.It will gain more market in the long run.

There isnt even a slight bit of luck in Chess, not sure where that idea comes from. Maybe if we talk about about who gets to play white or black and take the first move otherwise its an all skill game, more then most can claim with physical elements. Chess has become a bit more popular maybe because of this lockdown thing, so if it was ever going to work then maybe its now.

Yes luck does not seems to be part of this game . It’s how quickly you can anticipate what could the next move or how it can change the game by one move and play it accordingly will help you to win the game . It’s strategy which decides the result of this game. Only you can wish is that the opponent makes some mistakes so that it can become an advantage for you to win the game .

Thats the luck part on where your opponent do make out some mistakes into their moves of their chess piece but all in all when we do talk about Chess then it all matters with mind and knowledge. If you dont have these qualities then its hard to beat up someone who do have much more experience or talent than yours. In talks of this included on bookies then its understandable that it isnt being recognized due to the fact that there only a few people who do know or interested into this sports.Giving out odds or lines wouldnt really be that much as an impact.

I barely see a popular sports betting platform that includes chess on it. Most of the adults are playing chess so I wonder why there are few sports betting that has it. Chess is a great game and there are plenty of players on it in lichess.org, chess24.com and chess.com. Actually, there's a lot of tournament in chess that was implemented during the quarantine and those events are being participated by Grand Masters which has a rating of greater than 2500. - Clutch Chess Showdown 2
- Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge
- Clutch Chess Champions
- FIDE Chess.com Online Nations Cup
- Chess24 MCI Finals

GM Hikaru also have a chess battle with popular streamers in other games like @xQc @BoxBox @voyboy @Papaplatte @Yassuo @nymnion and there's a possibility that Twitch will be organized a twitch rival on chess! IMO, it'll be better to have this kind of category since there are many fans of chess all over the world. https://www.theverge.com/21292747/chess-twitch-games-viewership-stream-hikaru-nakamuraChess Betting would be kind of crazy since you are not specifically betting on the chess , you are actually Betting on the player . The chances of both players winning is 50-50 . At the same time the probability of winning the bet is also higher as compared to other events since it's just 1-1 , therefore you can very easily try and bet on it . When we are talking about the sports platforms they don't usually include chess since not many people seem interested in this , people go for things like football , cricket , basketball and stuff , chess is mostly forgotten. But when I searched online on Google I did find a lot of companies which have this service. It's fair to say it's a less played betting but not forgotten .

I would never play a chess game online vs another player online. There are so many ways to cheat with that. The chess engines are way too strong, even grandmaster can't win it from them. Gambling on chess events or games isn't that hard. Always bet on Magnus Carlsen. :-)

I guess then it'll cost more to bet on player with higher chances of winning a chess game. The experienced/skilled bettors will likely depend on recent activities of chess players to place bets on them. I wonder if the betting businesses can make betting on chess abit gradual like trading. Imagine betting little/moderately from start of a chess competition to finish. You don't have to lose everything.

Maybe not, probably the structure of the game as a mind game without too much action is the reason why it isn't a thing for gamblers. But believe it or not, there are some games of chess that are exciting. Betting in chess game is good when the game is Blitz, meaning, a 5-10 minutes game will drive the audience at excitement especially if the players are moving too fast, and their reaction to time pressure is visible. But with casual games in about 1-2hrs, I don't think it would be good for betting. But with 2 players each game, betting in chess really fits as your chance of winning is 50% I don't really get your last sentence... It is not because it is a match between 2 players that you have a winning chance of 50 %. The players maybe have a chance of winning of 50 %, not your bets. But, you are right that the Blitz games are very exciting to watch, but are in my eyes, not the best matches to place bets on. Results of this kind of matches are quite unpredictable. Agreed, in a standard match while there can always be a surprise the player that is on average better ranked should win more often than not, but in a blitz game this is not the case anymore as players keep the game confusing on purpose to try to catch their opponents off guard, so while in a regular game a player may choose to simplify the position in a blitz game they know their best chance is to keep the game open to all kind of possibilities so the chances your opponent makes a mistake go higher and you can score a win.

True, even a strong opponent can be defeated on a blitz game since the game is a fast phase and we should think quickly. A blitz game is a battle of correct placements, and you shouldn't move any single blunder because if your move is considered as a blunder then the chance of you losing is very high. That's why I think blitz is very suitable on any tournament that should have bettings.

Chess is a great game and there are plenty of players on it in lichess.org, chess24.com and chess.com. Compare to other kind of game/s, chess requires the player to use his/her mind seriously in order to win. Mostly, the area where game is taken is so quiet unlike any other games. Due to that some who do not really appreaciate the game find the game boring. So instead of focusing in a boring game they just tend to bet on any other kind of game. Rather than boring it is completely skill based game. Here luck doesn't have any role. If you're good in making the perfect moves taking in mind each and every move the opponent does on his turn, one can win for sure. In this way it is not about boring, it is all about the luck which isn't necessary making people get bored.

There's not much excitement among bettors in Chess, so they only include sports that has a lot of excitement like basketball boxing among others, anyway they have their own big chess sites in the internet and we have many club all over the world and Fide the chess governing body, is one the largest sports federation in the world.

However, since its listed on sport betting sides there are probably enough players who like to bet on chess although for me that would be too boring and I wouldn't know where to start.

This is what about i talked before in this thread. Word in word. You're highly correct about that. In chess, in most games, for a people who knows about the game and players, it will be obvious which one will win. The part of "probability" is significant low (as you said in your post).

That is a quick game and each player is required to made a move within a certain period of time given. If there will be a game mode like this, I'll never join it. I'm not saying that I'm a bad chess player, I know how a to play but this is a mind game and you should be quick if you'll ever be in that mode. Is that official mode and rules with an official chess match?

Blitz is between the 5min/10min.There is also ligthning chess. That's with 1 or 2 minute per player per game. That fun the watch but very difficult to play. For some 30 seconds is 'almost' enough for a whole game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL-uWmw4YMA

I can't think that I'm able to cope up if ever I'll land into that kind of match whether it's an official or just a game with someone that I know. This is why it's a good decision to admire those best of the best chess players in the world and even locally.
