ELO is famous inside of chess and outside of it for being a ranking system of players, at a certain level you become a grand master and likely able to play internationally vs the best.   Yahoo chess used to be the most common example but I think they closed down their games.   I haven't played much recently but anyone interested in the game could look at chess.com and also theres been a few twitch channels recently becoming more popular streaming chess at various levels including beginner.     I dont know about this idea of betting, i think sports betting goes better with team games for some reason but its not impossible odds occur for show matches especially as they can become nationalist causes at some point with wider interest.

i think sports betting goes better with team games for some reason but its not impossible odds occur for show matches especially as they can become nationalist causes at some point with wider interest.

Sports betting goes better with more frequent things (like football) and things where the result of match is not determined (with high probability) before it start. Chess do not match with this requirements.

No wonder if only a few people who can win the games.
I realize that the highest level and the difficulty will increase apart the games, so that need more skills to win. Usually, we don't need to long to raise the next level, but until we reach the medium level, the hard part will come Wink
I'm not thinking only few people will defeat the highest level. There are always those people who are good at playing chess and won't talk a lot in forums.
To me, the important part is you enjoy the game and if you want to improve the way you play chess just keep going. Those hard levels will eventually be easy to you if you grind on it.
When I watch people playing chess in a public area, I see they are enjoying the game while talking to each other.
Sometimes, the opponent yelling to the other because that person takes a long time to think about the next step.
Maybe reading a book about chess will help us to improve our skills in a chess game, right?
In virtual, I don't think that's going to be allowed. There might be a chat box on the side but microphones, I don't think that's necessary to be added although most esports have their mic-on for the synchronization of their team plays. But in a chess, it's unnecessary.
Experience is still the best teacher to improve though reading books? I prefer to watch than to read.
I never tried to use microphones to communicate on the gambling website, and I don't know if that feature is available on the site.
Usually, the gambling site has a chatbox that accommodates the member to talk with the others so that they can share anything.
To improve our skills, we don't have to just depend on the experience, but we need to read a book, especially if that book has another lesson.
That will be a good combination for us to improve our skills because we know the theory, plus we can apply it to the games.
That can give us more experiences that can bring us to improve our skills.

I barely see a popular sports betting platform that includes chess on it. Most of the adults are playing chess so I wonder why there are few sports betting that has it.
Chess is a great game and there are plenty of players on it in lichess.org, chess24.com and chess.com.

Actually, there's a lot of tournament in chess that was implemented during the quarantine and those events are being participated by Grand Masters which has a rating of greater than 2500.
  • Clutch Chess Showdown 2
  • Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge
  • Clutch Chess Champions
  • FIDE Chess.com Online Nations Cup
  • Chess24 MCI Finals

On the side of streaming.

There's a bunch of streamers on twitch that's playing chess right now and you can't believe that it has a lot of viewers. One of those popular streamers is GM Hikaru, he also played on those tournaments that I've mentioned. Even the top 1 overall rating, GM Magnus Carlsen, is also streaming in twitch.

We all knew that most popular games are LoL, CS:GO, Dota 2, and Fornite but recently, a medieval game which is chess, climbed to the top of the most played games in twitch. This game is a sport and can even be considered in eSports since it can be done electronically so I hope there are gambling sites that consider this game on their platform.

GM Hikaru also have a chess battle with popular streamers in other games like @xQc @BoxBox @voyboy @Papaplatte @Yassuo @nymnion and there's a possibility that Twitch will be organized a twitch rival on chess! IMO, it'll be better to have this kind of category since there are many fans of chess all over the world.

Well man chess could such an interesting sport to bet upon. Imagine there is a game going on and we could bet upon the next move of either of players. Result gambling can to be quite interesting. Being a chess player myself this thought is really exciting. But I think the problem is with people who don't know chess. For them watching chess is bouring so that is why people don't make gambling in chess.
Honestly, watching a chess match even if it is an official tournament or not is not as thrilling compared when you are watching other sports or e-sports. And it will not create that much demand if it will be included in sport books.
I think if someone knows how to play chess and plays it at a good level he could be quite thrilled while watching chess and having conversation about it with others while watching. But yes I do agree enthusiasm would be much lower than other sports because it's not that fast game.

No, chess is no easy to play. Everyone can learn to play chess of course but only a few can become a really good player. It is easy to just play for the sake of playing but if money is put at stake, I mean playing with a gamble, it is not that easy.

My observation is that gambling games have the luck factor. In chess, there is no luck involved unless the opponent is careless enough to make a wrong move.

But the elo ranking system in chess is pretty good - if you manage to calibirate all new players after some games. It would be fair if you only match people based on their ranking and avoid any exploitations of good players faking their skill. Two weaker players playing against each other could still be interest.  I really enjoy twitch streams of chess players on different levels. Also, gambling on these matches would be much more interesting and balanced. In the end they would also offer higher odds for players, than just always betting on the grand master with a little payout.

I beg your pardon if I am not familiar with Elo ranking system.

Chess is always an interesting game of course but sadly one which a lot of friends and even myself do not pursue very seriously due to it being more of a mind game than just another ordinary fun game. Each chess game seems to make use of too much brain cells. Lol. Grin

That's probably part of the reason people avoid it these days. Its hard for alot of people to dedicate so much thinking and time on something that doesn't pay their bills. Perhaps if sustainable/regular income can be earned from it, lot more people will start learning to play the game?
I just think it's better to spend that playing and earning time on games that can benefit you in real world... better still, games that can be applied in things that can be used for the good of societies. I wonder if chess and it's strategy can be applied in real world for good.

Talking about chess is a reminder of my past, when I was 14 years old, I joined the chess club at school. And I often won tournaments
at that time, I really loved chess. After I grew up I started to forget chess, because a lot of games that turned out to be more interesting
in my opinion. So it must be recognized why it is rarely popular sports betting platform which includes chess. Because chess's popularity
is decreasing, but I still hope that in the future there will be popular sports betting platform that includes chess. Even though I rarely
play chess, I still love chess. So still watching chess tournament.
Decreasing, no I guess because chess game is easy to play and everyone could learn to play. I agree that the live stream will help this game to gather all individuals who are fun in playing chess. There are many of them actually and here in our place. Before the pandemic I can see many of chess players playing in the busy streets others like in the terminal specifically public transport drivers and operators play this game often.

No, chess is no easy to play. Everyone can learn to play chess of course but only a few can become a really good player. It is easy to just play for the sake of playing but if money is put at stake, I mean playing with a gamble, it is not that easy.

You wil be good on playing chess if you spend effort to practice. It is actually not easy to play good chess if your moves are just moved to take your turn. There should be a reason why you put your piece on that square. Think ahead and predict. Good positioning and timing can help you to win a chess game.
I guess those that are chess players are good enough to be careless. One will win, the other will be the losser, but the match can be a draw. Of course carelessness is a reason to loss a game of chess, but it is quite often to happen for pro players.

"Thrilling" depending only from your preferences and from anything else. For example, i don't like football. It's not even "not thrilling" but, for honest, for me it's highly boring sport. I don't watch football and don't betting on it (except one period in my life)

I haven't done it yet as well, only with online games - esports. Improving by becoming a bookworm through chess? things are already published online and there are pdf files where you can download.
Those are the latest reading materials that we have on this 2020.

Chess matches are thrilling to watch once you get all the moves and techniques that the professionals are using. Its not also required to have all the knowledge about those techniques since you get to watch the thrill on how one another forces each other into corners of a chessboard.

Chess requires a lot of patience and critical thinking since professionals can have their play-style be acquired by Artificial Intelligence or even Robots. They can actually have a match again and again with their own play-style and that AI has an adaptive style so it also gets better as time goes by.

Maybe that kind of tournaments or betting can also be organized since the play-style of professionals are embedded within that Artificial Intelligence.

Because of strong calculating power of most new AI, the result of match human vs AI is highly predicted.

AI vs AI (if we are not talking about neural networks) are also predicted - will win better AI. Even with NN you need few matches for NN to learn and change it strategy (it means, that one AI will lost few matches in a row for sure and only after that he maybe will change his strategy and win)

You wil be good on playing chess if you spend effort to practice. It is actually not easy to play good chess if your moves are just moved to take your turn. There should be a reason why you put your piece on that square.

Practice makes perfect = Experience. Only applied on actual game match though.

But for gambling, for let's say on a gambling site where there's a room (PVP) , it's hard to play against someone as we didn't know if they are robot or using a script that cheats the game even the site will claimed they are using an anti-cheat system.

So to stay away on that risk, I choose to just bet if ever there's a chess event. Though difficult to analyze who will win as past records won't matter, at least our money is on fair and square.

With Chess it is quite easy to make a script and win against the player. This means maybe one in ten will win against the computer. So, it is impossible to have a fair way of gambling. When a game is being played between two individuals, then it is better than other forms of games. Here one with the skill wins than the one with luck. Importantly the gambling service provider won't be getting any assured house edge. Only a small amount as a hosting fee, maybe this is the reason why Chess isn't much into gambling.

"Thrilling" depending only from your preferences and from anything else. For example, i don't like football. It's not even "not thrilling" but, for honest, for me it's highly boring sport. I don't watch football and don't betting on it (except one period in my life)

This makes sense. Perhaps people get thrilled by games they understand and are interested in. When they observe some rare skills, performances, result, talents, etc they get thrilled by them?
I guess if he understands chess and is probably interested in it, some rare movements or activities could thrill him too.

Watching chess matches can be boring for those people who are not really into playing chess. Of course they will not enjoy it like most of the players that are watching the game because they do not fully understand the game. Actually chess is a thrilling game specially if they reached the middle game and the end game. Chess is actually included on sport books dude.

There are plenty of eSports games like hearthstone and legends of runeterra which has complex mechanics like chess but look, people are still into it.
I've recently watched a recent tournament in chess which is the battle of chess engines.

So for some who say that there's a chess engine, they're aware of it and actually there's a tournament for the best chess engine.

Same goes with the other eSports or sports betting, some people find it very boring and not amusing since they don't like the game even the majority likes it. The statements "is not as thrilling compared..." is kinda biased for those who people who say chess is an interesting and thrilling game.

The rules of chess are simple, that is true enough, but the game is incredibly deep and it is really difficult to become good at it, I really think that is probably one of the main things that detracts from its popularity and when we add that even if it is difficult to become good at almost anything but people are still willing to watch it as long as is entertaining it is not really difficult to guess why most people do not find chess interesting as it is not very exciting to see two people sit down for hours just to move a few pieces on a board.

the difference is that it's more "hype" thing, fantasy-like games, and because of that audience is far wider. And also in hearthstone there is much more random unlike chess. So we have a big question will be chess so popular in betting even like a hearthstone.

Yes, people are usually attracted to graphics nowadays, prefer games that have a lot of effects, and do have a background story to be more appreciative. Yes, I get it that chess is very different from hearthstone, I just saw a huge potential for chess to become popular these past few days, and many people get attracted to it even it's a medieval game. That's the reason why I think chess can fit also on the gambling industry for its popularity in top streaming platforms. Also, I understand that chess wasn't that attractive and has very complex mechanics, normal people who just want to play gambling will not get interest to it. People always think about the complexity of the game, but the thing is, if we will bet who's gonna win, it doesn't require advanced intellect to understand the situation.

That's right, because that is all depends on the player's condition if how the player handles the match, so it doesn't need an advanced intellect to distinguish who will be gonna win. It's more like based on luck game.

There are more tournaments event organized by World Chess Federation (WCF) and you can check that on worldchess.com.

There are certain gambling sites that have a chess betting but as of now, they are not enough popular not just like physical sports events that usually held on a big stadium.
