I can't think of how I'll perform if the time limit is going to be like that. I'm not a pro and I don't think I'm in the middle or intermediate but we're not going far like beating a grandmaster.

Also, gambling on these matches would be much more interesting and balanced. In the end they would also offer higher odds for players, than just always betting on the grand master with a little payout.

In virtual, I don't think that's going to be allowed. There might be a chat box on the side but microphones, I don't think that's necessary to be added although most esports have their mic-on for the synchronization of their team plays. But in a chess, it's unnecessary.
Experience is still the best teacher to improve though reading books? I prefer to watch than to read.

Chess is always an interesting game of course but sadly one which a lot of friends and even myself do not pursue very seriously due to it being more of a mind game than just another ordinary fun game. Each chess game seems to make use of too much brain cells. Lol.
