It very possible we see another crypto beating ETH in the future but I'm very sure it will not be an easy task because ETH controls all the entire eth supported token. To beat a crypto that is well grounded and that has been on the top list for the last 4years then the coin should be able to offer more to the investors, blockchain community than Ethereum.

In my opinion, what can beat Ethereum is only Bitcoin, no other crypto can beat Ethereum. Moreover, new crypto that does not
have strong fundamentals cannot possibly beat Ethereum. We can see for ourselves that Ethereum has a high demand and many
Ethereum networks are also using it. So it is very difficult to find coins that can beat Ethereum right now.

It is true that nothing is impossible, besides that crypto is also very volatile. but we also have to be able to see the current situation where there is no project capable of delivering what ethereum provides. both in terms of technology and scaleability. maybe there are some that can compete with ethereum, but their technology is not really massively tested like ethereum now

Maybe the marketcap of new coin will surpass the total marketcap of ETH in the future but it will temporary like in XRP case. The XRP project has taken over the second place of coinmarketcap list for a week but later called to 3rd place. The valuation is not transparent but the real value can be measured with real use case which is very high for ETH compared to XRP. For beating the top altcoins, the new altcoin should have a specification which the investors can't find on alternative cryptocurrencies. Otherwise, it is a waste of time to make the analysis as it has happened in the PolkaDOT altcoin case. No one has expected a huge pump right after the exchange listing on the Binance but it happens sometiems.

Hello, Bitcoin is actually a king/leader in the sky and it can't be a benchmark to compete with altcoin even it is ETH, what about XRP? this altcoin is quite capable and always in a good position in the market cap, I think also XRP is good at capturing every moment on market bullrun.

Seen ethereum in the top 3 the only thing that is close to overtaking ethereum would be ripple at the moment they are banging the top 3 spots with bitcoin, we all know bitcoin is here to stay in the top 1, if you ever read the news or the coinmarketcap list of top coins there is one-time ripple gain top 2 but it was just very brief stay, and ethereum just get it back after just like a day or hours if I'm not mistaken, so ripple is my 1st candidate for that.

Ripple is not really new though but it's true that it's the most realistic candidate so far despite many people accusing it of pseudo-decentralization.
But, being ripple supported by many of its partners which is not some measly company but banks, I'm not surprised if someday it's gonna break through 2nd place for a long time meanwhile ETH creating its own foundation by all the projects using their blockchain.

In terms of token price, it can overtake ETH price and we have seen this with any projects. Like YFI, YFII, MKR, PAXG, and many more. But they can not take the position of number 2 for ETH in coinmarketcap. All those projects are based on the ETH network and their market cap is not even near ETH 67B market cap. Even XRP which was in number 2 in CMC has a market cap of 27B+ which is half of the ETH network has.

And this gives an almost invincible advantage for that coin.

That's right, being the first smart contract platform on the market makes all smart contract familiarity go to ethereum and therefore ethereum's position is very difficult to replace. For almost the same technology, I think NEO is close to ethereum technology, but with the number of users, devlopers and also development is still far from being compared to ethereum, even so I'm sure NEO still has a chance.

The problem as you mentioned is a possibility because we still have many mentions of ETH competitors Ripple and Polkadot in the crypto market, but Ripple is the most dangerous opponent when it is already surpassed ETH to occupy the 2nd place on coinmarketcap .

No, I don't think someone new can beat it. If take a look at the chart of the coin market cap then you can understand it standing on top 2 for a such long time you can say more than 2-3 years. But in these 2-3 years lots of promising coins are listed at the coin market cap. They were promising and well developed as well, but because of their lack of policy they can't beat it and because of this industry ,at the second position for such long time.

I don't think that. It's almost impossible for any crypto to beat ethereum at this moment. Ethereum is the biggest platform based token right now and it has a huge marketcap. In terms of marketcap it right behind the bitcoin for a long time and above all the altcoins. For most of the altcoins to reach the market cap is too hard. And also people like ethereum very much. And the 3rd party dev base is also very strong in the ethereum community. So it's hard for any coin to reach this popularity also.

for now it is impossible, because now Ethereum is still very popular and many people are investing or using Ethereum, so it will be difficult for other cryptocurrency to beat Ethereum in the market, therefore than you invest in other cryptocurrency, then you better invest in Ethereum, because investing in Ethereum will definitely give you profit.

Well, there's are so many factors connected to this if really you want to compare accurately, as you might already know, there are so many altcoins that are already worth more than eth in the market, but when you check their supply and market cap, eth's supply and market cap is worth much more.
But when it comes to position on coinmarketcap, I think the rival eth have is ripple(XRP), ripple have taken eth's position about 1 or 2 times I know of, but eth always end of taking it's position back.
So  the only coin I know can over take eth in terms of market cap and position is ripple(XRP), but in terms of total supply and price, I haven't seen any.
