Venezuela is a country that one of the most expensive things is food, if we compare them with the prices of food in the USA, it would be ideal, people would live a little calmer, debt, inflation is rampant, you must have at least minus $ 100 so you can cover basic expenses for the week.

We tried to ban exports of grain ,but stupid EU intervened...

Same here in our country almost all products are getting increase in price especially meat products and vegetables due to pandemic and african swine fever of pigs, a very high demand of meat in the market thus making the price very high. A lot of people are complaining but the government cannot control the price due high demand and animal owner trying to sell their products in high price also due to lack of supply in the market.

In Russia, the situation is different from other countries. The increase in food prices there doesn't surprise me much, because the Russian Ruble has been declining for quite some time. Until 2014, the exchange rate was 1 USD = 30 RUR. The current exchange rate is 1 USD = 74 RUR. It means that the value of RUR has declined by 1.5 times in just 7 years. So the increase in commodity prices there is not very surprising.

In Russia, the situation is different from other countries. The increase in food prices there doesn't surprise me much, because the Russian Ruble has been declining for quite some time. Until 2014, the exchange rate was 1 USD = 30 RUR. The current exchange rate is 1 USD = 74 RUR. It means that the value of RUR has declined by 1.5 times in just 7 years. So the increase in commodity prices there is not very surprising.

In our country there is a meat shortage, the price of pork and chicken has increase by 100% or even more as the suggested retail price is not anymore followed. This is just the start of the economic struggle brought by the pandemic and we will suffer from this increase of the basic needs.

I thought this is only happening in our country but after reading this thread, I realized that there are other countries that are also struggling due to this crisis.

Which country you are residing in? Even if the tax rates are increased, that should not have much impact on the food prices. Because the governments almost never increases the tax on agricultural products. However, increasing oil prices may cause additional expenses in transporting food products. Here in my country there has been no increase in the food prices. We are paying the same rates that we used to pay before the pandemic.

Certain Imported and factory made foods increased by about 10—50% where I live. But prices of agricultural produce from local farmers seem to remain thesame or increased abit.
I honestly don't worry about the increase in factory made foods because lots of them are contain ingredients that are harmful to people.
I prefer to see people buy more fresh organic fruits/veg like tomato rather than the heavily processed factory-made ones.  People need lots of healthy foods to handle the global disease better. Interestingly, the bad foods price seem to increase in the pandemic while the good ones remains very affordable for people to use for their health... That is what I would likely do to the food market until the bad food completely disappear.

it's the prices of fresh fruits and veggies that increased in my country. it varies in the provinces and to the National capital region where there is a middleman that hoard the products making the prices higher. factory made products are very much controlled by the government afaik there is mandate that the companies won't increase the price.

its not going to be prevented and over time prices will just go up when production costs are high as well. and the pandemic is not helping anyone.

Even our currency is very unstable against other dominant currencies so consumables are equally expected to be unstable. We here pretend to be developing a taste for our own products which we have the resources to produce. What surprises me is the fact that we still import common vegetables like tomatoes.

Not everyone can do that though as not everyone has a garden and the space to grow some vegetables need to be big. Maybe a community vegetable garden can work and everyone can benefit from it. I have heard of this kinds of stories about people having their own sustainable garden and I think that this could help us and the economy in the future.

When those big companies started to accumulate the fresh veggies and foods from local market for better price then demand will increase so we may not see the immediate hike but surely the demand is yet to be balanced and it is a long term process.

The situation really make even more worst due to this price hikes on essentials.Same goes here on my country where the price of meat and other poultry products had
exaggeratedly been double in price which I did say to myself on what in the world is happening now? Common reason of those merchants or stores that there were shortage
and even up to now buying with doubled prices is really a pain in the ass.This make people put more into harder situation where even buying their food
is already a big challenge due to this prices.There should be at least some solution to this one.

I don't know the reason for your country to import tomatoes but maybe there is a shortage in the local supply or your country has an agreement with the other countries regarding imports.

The idea is good, but obviously there are limitations. You can grow crops such as tomatoes, chilies and lettuce in home gardens. But they require a lot of time and effort and constant upkeep. That means you can't take vacations of more than two days, or else the plants would die from lack of water. I have seen some of the friends trying their luck with home gardens, but they had only limited success. Apart from the huge time and effort requirement, there is also the issue with pests. And first of all, you need enough space in your terrace or balcony to grow these crops.

Same thing happened here in my country, All products in the local market multiplied its normal price, and I don't know what their reason  why the price of all basic necessities are multiplied; besides of the pandemic that we are experiencing today.

Depending on where you live, Cheap and Nutritious foods includes eggs, milk, canned fish, canned tomatoes, canned beans, rice, oatmeal and pasta seasonal fruits and vegetables. Stay away from packaged goods as these are the ones with high margins. Frozen section have ground beef and turkey in a rolled up package that can be made pasta sauce, humburger patties and meatballs. Eat whole foods, They are healthy and cheaper than processed foods.

The world has more money than before, inflation occurs in various commodities and so does food. Prices of rice, corn, wheat... are rising silently. Maybe we'll see them double their current size in a few years. That is inevitable.

If the market wasn't very competitive, packaged water would have doubled in price where I live.  Some greedy cabal tried to jack up price months ago but other producers flooded the market with cheap water and crashed the price by more than 50%. Competition(healthy competition) is a beautiful thing. I don't worry too much because the market people are very smart and unbelievably hard working.
I'm always filled with joy when I see them working like bees in harmony, and they most likely don't even remember anything called government exist.

Food price double beyond expectation this year for sure. To a certain extent I was not border by the increment because it was a strategy to help local product to penetrate the market.
Later on food price increase to an extent I began to wonder to what end the world was leading to.
The most painful aspect of it all is the series of crisis which ravaged the economy and is still telling on the economy till date. My question remains "Cost value system is high now what is the tendency of it coming to a lower price level?.

Seriously I don't really know what happen or what really cause it food price increase beyond expectation this year I believe the main reason is due to the pandemic. Must food  doubled which is very bad because in my country there are lot's of poor people which can't even afford two square meal when the price of food stuff have not doubled I don't really know how those people will be surviving currently I believe something should be done about this or some people might endup dieing of hunger in my country.

Yes we are going through a bad pandemic who made life very difficult for us to live. Every food don't have supply from one to another places. This cause every food item has been double in prices. Community are fighting against coronavirus or its infections towards the body. This virus has makes life very difficult for us. Not reaching the food items to Community making more hard to live and purchase if available on double price.
