Update: Fork was good! ctd.pool.mn updated to latest. Download V1.3 below. Time Warp is patched

CateDoge is just simply another cryptocurrency, which I am creating for fun. And of course if it gets going. I will always be here to support the coin to the fullest. Like releasing updates, forking the chain (if required). Its inspired by a 90s show catdog. And the famous doge meme along the famous cate meme  Grin CateDoge utilizes SHA3 (Keccak) algorithm.  Keccak has been noted to be putting less stress on GPUs and many of the multipools only support scrypt and sha256 coins yet. That could save us from multipools dumping our coins.

free initial distribution of coins

The small premine will be distributed among the people on bitcointalk. You have to go to catedoge.com and fill out the form to register your account for free distribution of coins (We promise to not send any spam to your email)

Distribution will be like this:
first 100 people to register will get 5000 coins each
next 100 people to register will get 2000 coins each
next 100 people to register will get 1000 coins each.

Distribution will start after the launch, and shall be done within 1 week. Distribution was created to make sure that people will be able to get a bit of the premine, just like its supposed to be. More premine is to be distributed for various things people do for community like

setting up a block chain
a gambling site
exchanges that add catedoge will be given a good amount of premine
pool owners who setup a pool for catedoge
providing a healthy node for catedoge

roadmap

March 24: thread started, undecided which algorithm to use and voting starts!
March 28: decided to use SHA-3 Keccak. It has well efficiency for CPUs and GPUs. ASICs do work but I believe they do are not cost effective.
March 29: catedoge.com registered for the CateDoge! first batch of bounties taken by coinok.pw! Congratulations and thank you! More bounties are up!
March 31: Looks like the website is ready!

April 2: Website is ready! http://catedoge.com
April 3: We started a free distribution of coins. Which is like an IPO except its free  Cheesy The premine has to go somewhere. It shall be used for health of the coin. Therefore the premine has been divided into multiple parts. It will be paid to pool owners, blockchain explorers, exchanges and various other services! Look at the first post for details.

April 5: Everything ready for launch!

April 7: Fork was fine! no worries! Also got listed at CryptoAltex
April 10: Added to exchange CoinAccel.com
April 10: Getting the CateDoge to media and press! Stay tuned!

x11! I don't see why more coins are not using this! Higher hash rates for GPU miners and lower temps leading to less power consumption. So more profitable for miners. Crazy going anywhere else!

Thanks  Cheesy Don't you think a new algo will drive miners away from the coin. As it gets difficult for a new miner to start with new tools. Just wondering. I want it to be easier for miners.

There's a certain trade off you have to make. Using a less used algo you tend to attract more of a niche audience, those willing to mine the coin because it's slightly different.
Going the scrypt route means if there's a hint at the coin being profitable you'll become part of the multipool's rotation and see network hashrate spikes of 20-30 ghash.

Right now, alternative algos generally means a more stable network hashrate with miners that intentionally chose to mine the coin, rather than users oblivious to what they're mining through a multipool.

edit: Not saying sha3 is necessarily the way to go though. Adaptive-N-factor scrypt is quite funky as well. Take a look at Vertcoin which is doing quite well.
Should sha3 become popular, it is one of those algos that is very easily to create bitcoin-like ASICs for.
Unlike adapative-n scrypt, partly because of scrypt already being harder to do on custom hardware and due to how it changes over time (the adaptive-n-factor part)

Unlike adapative-n scrypt, partly because of scrypt already being harder to do on custom hardware and due to how it changes over time (the adaptive-n-factor part)

I started the voting. personally I am liking the hashing functions used in Hirocoin. X11. I think its most secure one right now.

No scrypt. This shit is damn bored already.

I am up for ideas. Tell me what algo would be interesting?

I would choose any x11 coin before scrypt or cpu any day now.
