Do you rely on the odds when placing bets?

I've recently created a discussion about the odds of various outcomes and the gaps between the likely winner and other options, but some replies raised another questions that I believe is worthy of being discussed. When placing bets on sports, I rely heavily on the odds, especially if someone has a very high probability of winning, like here:

But of course when the odds are close to one another (2.5, 3.1 and similar), I try to rely on the history of matches between the teams and recent wins/losses of the teams.
What do you follow when you are betting on sports: is it the odds or your knowledge and experience? Or maybe you're one of those people who bet on the favorite team or perhaps follows a gut? Do odds even matter to you? If yes, how important are they for your final decision?

The odds are really a good indicator on which a group of people will rely their money on. Its not just applicable to Sports Betting but I guess every betting situation with the odds reveal, those odds will pertain to groups of people who will be creating those bets but if you truly believe on the team that you are betting on despite seeing the odds, then that is the decision you will have to make yourself.

It's not the best idea. Despite odds can be used in some kind as indicator, it would be to easy if team with lower odd would win for sure. Odds it's more about what main part of gamers think about this exact match. So for example, i've Often bet on teams with odds like 3-5 and win!

The odds are paying more for the weaker team for a reason... they cannot win. Then how do they fail to guess the outcome sometimes? That's what makes it "gambling".

Odds can't be the main indicator, this what i'm talking about.

Correct the odds on this kind of gambling setup will be depending on research and factual basis as this will help you lower the chances of you losing unlike other kind of gambling setup where you can just depend on luck such as dice game where you can't do much research to lower the chances of you losing.
In sports gambling there are a lot of factor that you should consider for you higher the chances of you winning such as how the team played, the setting on where team are used to play, the history of those teams in a match up, training, and many more if you're seriously wanting to win.

I have same perception when it comes to place a bets in sports betting. I do perform first analysis or research before i would put a bet in a team. We do have our own favorite team in any sports but not all cases that the once winning team will always be a winning team. While doing some researches on my thesis in the past I read an article about bookmakers cheating gamblers and got quite curious and that is when I knew it. I do some analysis when big money is on the line and to be honest with you, I have to polish that skill of mine because I sometimes miss but the money lost is still not that damaging. Sometimes following the dead fishes leads to something after all.

What matter most is you have enjoy by placing your bet in your favorite team and enjoy to watch a sport played by hour favorite team sport. This might also have a risk but atleast knowing that its your favorite team and a crowd favorite could be one of the reason to easily moved on from losses if ever and look forward to another game worth watching for. I only think that if I am playing gambling and winning that game, I consider that will be my luck, which is come to me at the right time.

I fully agree with you. If we as a better are very well informed and have been following from the start! It would make sense to look at all odds presented to us. Only if we see the hole picture we can make a well informed decision. To make a profit in the gambling and betting world it's not only about knowing who is likely to win, but also if the odds quoted by the bookies represent the chance of winning. If all the bets would be fair than we couldn't nahe any profit long term.
