Hi Everyone!
We are excited about the new face of GenesisCoin!

Wallet: Windows wallet

From old topic, we decide to change the specifications of GenesisCoin:
Algorithm: Scrypt-Progressive-N with the N-Adapter increasing every 365 days, starting at N=2048 and ending at N=1899504000
Start time: 06:00:00 P.M. (GMT) Monday, March 17, 2014
Symbol: GNS
Max Coins: 307.5 billion
Block Time: 60 seconds
Block Rewards: 2000030000 coins per block
Decrease: 5% every 86400 blocks (~60 days) 10% every 10080 blocks (1 week), POW will stop, POS will start after 10 weeks
Difficulty Re-Target Time: Starts with 0.000244. From block 1 to 1439: retarget every 40 blocks. From 1440 onward all block will be using Kimoto Gravity Well algorithm to calculate difficultyDark Gravity Wave
Coin Maturity: 120 blocks
RPCport: 44669
P2Pport: 44668
Each block you have a 0.138% chance to get a 'Gold' block (payout x10), 0.27% to get a 'Silver' block (payout x6), and a 0.55% chance to get a 'Bronze' block (payout x3). That works out to having roughly 2 Gold, 4 Silver, and 8 Bronze blocks per day. No more bonus blocks.

After 10 weeks, POW will stop, POS will start.
We will pay interest per quarter
First year, 10% per quater
From the second year, 5%  per quater

After 10 weeks, we have ~5.3 BIL for interest

I like that you put effort into the development of this coin. Sadly I think that it goes unseen.

You should consider two major things for getting your coin up on its feet:

1. Proper marketing to get decent exposure.

2. Hire a graphics designer that will work on the coin symbol and possible wallet design.

Cutting the 30 Billion coins to 7.5 Billion, effectively now makes the pre-mine 4% rather than 1%.

How much of the pre-mine is left in the coffers? Do you have a plan to mitigate this % increase in pre-mine?

I've been mining this for a while now, and I like the changes you've proposed, but this just stuck out to me.

u mix a few parts in this new coin setup
the non scrypt mining algo was helping against upcoming asics

now if u change towards few weeks mining and later POS model (like mint zeit ecc....)
the mining algo scrypt would be much better to wide spread the coins and create a lot stakeholder

i think its realy important to define POS rewards asap
people have to decide if they mine here or not

without facts thats hard to do

mint zeit ecc all try to add a message to their coin (powersaving green, or promotion support of the zeit movement)

if your coin have no new interesting features
u should at least have a message or "something else" that attract people

edit:
this something else could be interesting wallet features like easy minting button minting calculation sheduled autoswitch into minting mode and so on....

How much of the pre-mine is left in the coffers? Do you have a plan to mitigate this % increase in pre-mine?

I've been mining this for a while now, and I like the changes you've proposed, but this just stuck out to me.

Sorry about the premine, but we sent much bounty for pools, exchanges and for people who helped us to build up the forums, upgrade website, marketing. We don't keep all coin for us. There will still have many coin for bounty in the future. We hope that we thought about this specs from the beginning Sad

what a crap excuses
I don't think so : They probably spent  most of the premine now.
The move to a pos scheme can save the coin. I have a small amount and I bought some cheap today hoping for an increase.

If the dev want to sell their premined coins, the price should be 0.00000001, and the coin will be death, like panda coin. Maybe, the dev want to change the current situation, so they redesign it, but the premined coins can not be changed, so I think, if we don't want the coin go to dead, we should support it. Smiley

I agree. My point was  : they cannot change the premine now, since they have already spent a good portion of it in bounties and others.

I like that you put effort into the development of this coin. Sadly I think that it goes unseen.

You should consider two major things for getting your coin up on its feet:

1. Proper marketing to get decent exposure.

2. Hire a graphics designer that will work on the coin symbol and possible wallet design.

Totally agreed.

we didn't change anything in main.cpp, that function is in main.cpp file. If the old wallet can be built, the new wallet should be built successfully too.

You met some problem in boost library.

Please decide on the amount of PoS as soon as possible. This will be a deal breaker for me, if I should start to mine this coin again. I really like the ZEIT coin feature of 25% annually PoS. If you could incorporate some similar sum for the Genesis coin, that would attract more people to it.

Sorry about the premine, but we sent much bounty for pools, exchanges and for people who helped us to build up the forums, upgrade website, marketing. We don't keep all coin for us. There will still have many coin for bounty in the future. We hope that we thought about this specs from the beginning Sad

what a crap excuses

premine for bounties is good, IF everything is fully transparent, which is super easy with cryptocurrencies.

I have to agree especially with item #2. The coin needs a fresh new look. GenesisCoin is a good name, but the coin artwork just falls flat. You want something iconic that matches the good development work going into this.

it seems that you don't have boost library in your computer. It is right?

I executed:
Code:
apt-get install -y git make g++ build-essential dos2unix
apt-get install -y autoconf automake libtool yasm m4
apt-get install -y libminiupnpc-dev libdb++-dev libgmp-dev libssl-dev  libboost-all-dev

Hello guys,

Fork at block 14999? My wallet aren't able to sync properly. Even if I delete the blockchain to download it again...

EDIT : in reality, it's not a problem of sync, because i'm synced... It's just that I can't download information from the blockchain after block 14999.

Yes dude, I have downloaded it yesterday. HTC123 and Ampf seems to have the same issues moreover. Don't you have the same issue, pttinh?

EDIT : i'll try to move my wallet.dat this time, delete the blockchain, and dowload it again. After this, I will put my wallet.dat on the folder and see what will happen.

EDIT 2 : same thing happened without my wallet in the proper appdata/roaming folder... The client stop at block 14999. And I have the 1.0.1.0 version of the wallet Sad

EDIT 3 : It's ok now. Dunno why, but after my "EDIT 1" actions, the client freezed for few seconds... and after this he had downloaded the lastest block. Thank you pttinh.

My wallet says: Client version -20140322-beta and Build date 2014-03-22 11:43:08 +0100

Do I need to update it? Recieving what I mine OK from multi-pool-eu, no sync problems...

edit: tried building from latest source on github, get this:

Code:
cd /home/stu/Downloads/genesiscoin-master/src/leveldb && CC=gcc CXX=g++ make OPT="-m64 -pipe -fstack-protector-all -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -O2" libleveldb.a libmemenv.a

I had autotransfer enabled from gns.pool.mn to poloniex and it arrived and credited fine to poloniex. Only issue is that I couldn't sell it, since the goddamn market is frozen.
Also, transferred 50k to cryptorush but it went in maintenance again before I could see if it arrived. Sad

http://gns.multi-pool.eu has not updated their wallet and are on the  WRONG fork according to my wallet and their site they are about 100 blocks ahead of the wallet also none of my payouts from them have arrived both manual and auto payouts to 2 different address and it shows in the block chain
Not yet redeemed    1028.13609442    gdtartU2Uv52ao314p4ssNriv7owjvSoZE    DUP HASH160 20:8112...9caf EQUALVERIFY CHECKSIG

I've re-downloaded the block chain twice and i watch as that block 15794 goes buy and nothing goes in my wallet.
Any suggestions?
And yes i am on the newest wallet.

I've tried to contact multi-pool but their contact button is missing.

Something wrong with your boost. Pools can build linux for them, that means wallet for ubuntu can be built.
I helped command:
Code:
apt-get install libboost1.48-all-dev

Thank you! Deleted that line, then got a load of crap about mgw48 type stuff but I've dealt with that before...

So, if it helps anyone on Xubuntu 13.10:

chmod+x ./build_detect_platform in /genesiscoin-master/src/leveldb

Then delete the #include Qpainter line in /src/qt/chartpage.cpp

Then delete the BOOST_LIB_SUFFIX=-mgw48-mt-s-1_55 line in bitcoin-qt.pro

...and it will build.

Coin devs really should be made to follow their own instructions and then be beaten with a stick when they don't work. Wink  Haven't managed to build a single wallet yet without some sort of faffing.

We really need mintpal.

I know I'm voting for it regularly! But it takes a long while. They don't even have VTC on there yet!!
VTC is a Scrypt-Adaptive-Nfactor pioneer. It doesn't need mintpal and already on Cryptsy :-)

True, but you would think they wouldn't even need to be voted for. Just shows that MintPal has eclectic taste in coins  Wink

I send coins to the deposit adress of Swisscex gXi3HdnYe32Wykj2JNGiUGTRZkQBo4ovdx, but no deposit is pending.
Also not seen in the blockchain
http://explorerino.com/address/gXi3HdnYe32Wykj2JNGiUGTRZkQBo4ovdx

Transaction ID: 49ebe842cbea355a606c47f1634259562835108cd7a68a1d315c4bcaeeaa1c2c

Can the dev look at it? Using the latest wallet.

We are working hand in hand with swisscex right now, seems either our blockchain is not right or swisscex ... stay tuned

Thanks for looking at it.

I see the coins in my balance at Swisscex, so it is solved Smiley
Thanks

Great stuff, I have 1.23 million coins now unconfirmed that were presumeably mined after the fork?

Any way of retrieving these or are they gone for good? I was enjoying being a Genesiscoin millionaire... Sad

Also, what pools are known safe to mine on with everything updated? Was using multi-pool-eu. Don't want to waste any more electricity/hash.

grrrr, new wallet now refusing to sync... 3 hrs behind, 4hrs behind, 5 hrs behind, 6hrs behind... has 4 connections apparently but they aren't helping...

On the first page of this thread the first post has a ton of addnodes that you can put in your configuration file, and that should solve any syncing issues.

I like the changes that were made to the wallet and to the coin itself (codewise).

Seems a nice move to reduce the number of coins from 30b to 7.5b.
All the work already done in Genesis, like the change to POS and the implementation of Dark Gravity Well, shows that there is a real Developer behind the coin, not just another "copy-paste dev"

Maybe people are not paying enough attention to this coin, but it have a lot of merit.

Congrats!

How about the future of this coin ?

I'm starting to worry, I must admit. Haven't heard anything from the developers in a while, and it's no longer on CryptoRush.in which is probably just as well, considering their recent troubles, but that leaves only Poloniex.com which is only so-so. Currently the activity there seems pretty dead too. I think we really need two things -  A new iconic logo, and a new exchange (like MintPal or Comkort) to generate some renewed interest in this otherwise, great coin.

I'm just catching up on GNS from over a week ago. Posted the following on the old thread:

Kestrel71, you are an idiot! Suck on this you poor loser...

I am confirming that I received my 250,000 gns. Been on vacation for a while so when I checked in this evening, I was pleasantly surprised! As you can see, I used the same username at Pool.MN that I do here. I have used Pool.MN to mine other coins as well (currently RAIN). I recommend this pool to anyone looking for a no hassle experience.

Just because you didn't win doesn't mean it's right to spread slander about the pool or the pool owner. You make yourself look like a spoiled brat because you didn't get your participation trophy. Grow up and face the fact that you didn't win.

Hello friends!
We've updated wallet at http://gns.pool.mn
Feel free to join us for 0% fee and 100% uptime!  Grin

So you can scam more people? I mined 4412 confirmed CateDoge coins at your pool and only was able to get 1300. I wrote a polite email about it and sent it to you; you didn't respond.

Well someone should host the new wallet if there is a copy.  It's already on Poloniex, Swisscex, CryptoRush (becoming solvent it appears). And maybe some others I dont pay much attention too Cheesy  It wont be worth anything when POS starts if no ones mining until that point

Still can't compile.

Code:
src/qt/chartpage.cpp:10:20: fatal error: Qpainter: No such file or directory
 #include <Qpainter>
                    ^
compilation terminated.
make: *** [build/chartpage.o] Error 1

What is the version of your QT base?
You can comment this line then try again.

I had the same problems. I did the chmod the same way you did. Instead of commenting out the "#include <Qpainter>" line, I changed it to "#include <qpainter.h>", since that include exists on my computer. Also I changed the "LIBS" definition in Makefile. I replaced:

"-lboost_system-mgw48-mt-s-1_55 -lboost_filesystem-mgw48-mt-s-1_55 -lboost_program_options-mgw48-mt-s-1_55 -lboost_thread-mgw48-mt-s-1_55"

with

"-lboost_system -lboost_filesystem -lboost_program_options -lboost_thread"

and that made the libboost errors go away.

I've seen some people blame Linux, when they had problems compiling the wallet on Linux. But the problem isn't Linux. The problem is that the coin developers haven't tried compiling the source under Linux. If they did, they would have discovered these problems with the wallet's source code. The wallets for many other coins have similar problems.

The website being down is really a bad sign. The source code for the wallet can be found on github. Though I like the specs on this coin, at this point I'm probably not going to mine it. I have serious doubts about the developer's continued commitment.

I have noticed that some coin developers use MEGA file hosting. You can just upload it there, and put a link to it.

I too really like the specs on this coin, but you are correct in saying that if no one mines this coin before POS starts it will not go anywhere.

We need to spread the coins out to the masses in order for it to succeed.

From what the dev says they are working on this coin... but unless we can get the word out before POS starts, it may be pointless.

we need to focus on marketing right now... proper working links to the wallet would be a really good start.

should probably look into fixing the source on git as well so others don't have to jump through hoops to get it working.

The developers can set the POS to start whenever they want to. So I think that things need to get fixed first before there is a marketing push. Right now the blockchain has forked, and because of it I don't imagine there are many people mining. The faucets weren't working and have now closed down. I hope this coin does succeed; I like the idea of distributing a large portion of the coins through faucets.

Hi there,

I still like your coin and I'm minig it Cheesy

But the downside of this coin is that you can't do anything with it.
At least a gambling site would be cool and the best thing is: I'm working on a GenesisCoin dice gamble site right now!

If you have any questions feel free to ask me any time you want Smiley

Hi all, i'm still mining this coin. So I have the latest wallet downloaded from the official site: genesiscoin-qt_win.zip - https://mega.co.nz/#!txYTDZxY!7nOxG1VEdmqrQAyy6MGk8nu9cyF4UxbMigEK0_pQGGE
If you have problems with sync here is genesiscoin-data.zip - https://mega.co.nz/#!10pG3ITZ!sTk62hHW6bnhIRW4HbQlNzfKBSUKqOpzempjTDu8_hg

If you don't want to download genesiscoin-data.zip try to use this genesiscoin.conf on first start (it works for me):
Code:
rpcuser=genesiscoin
rpcpassword=genesiscoinsecretpassword
rpcport=44669
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
server=1
listen=1
daemon=1
addnode=188.226.133.40

I can't tell if this coin has already failed spectacularly or is the best hidden gem in crypto-currencies. If the developers would only communicate more readily (and could keep a website up) we'd have a sense of confidence. Still they insist the switch to PoS is coming, which could spell huge changes and another chance for real success.

I've got to wonder if there isn't something going on in the background we're not being told about. Aren't the new BitCoin ATMs called Genesis Coins or something like that (seem to remember seeing that somewhere)? Maybe the developers are getting threatened by that companies lawyers. Still a simple rebrand (and everyone seems to agree a new logo is needed anyway) could take care of that. I just wish we had more communication.

In my opinion, if you want to save this coin :

- clean the genesiscoind source code for Linux. I wanted to install a daemon on one of my servers and the build failed at first, then after correcting few minor issues, I finally obtained a Windows genesiscoind.exe  Huh EDIT : my bad, it's ok

- web site must be on again

- swisscex GNS market is still alive but they will close it if nobody buys a little

- you can vote 5 times per hour on mintpal

Antivirus just alerted that genesiscoin-qt.exe is a virus of the variant Trojan.Win32.ircbot.cpo. Originally it did not detect it - not even during scheduled anti virus checks that I periodically do. Somebody else experienced something?

I have been saying this pool was dodgy and cannot be trusted but did people listen, oh no.   The owner of the pool goes by the name of Kimcoin on here, or did.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=229643
Maybe you can contact him through that but I reckon he has just made another fake account like he was last time.

Sure it is. There will be about 2 billions of this coin (less in fact as I suppose some are lost) at the end of the PoW period, four weeks from now. This coin is worth much more than 1 satoshi comparing other shitcoins...

It just needs a better support and a marketplace like Mintpal...

Halving will occur soon : 18000 block reward to 9000.

It's not halving but just reduction from 18000 to 15000. But it should have happened at block 60480 (6 x 10080)... and the reward is still 18000  Huh

Ok, I looked at source code : block reward changes every week (10080 blocks) starting from block number 15000 (where genesiscoin hardforked I suppose).

So block reward will be :

12000 from block 75480 (60480 + 15000) to block 85559 (75480 + 10080 - 1).
9000 from block 85560 to block 95639
6000 from block 95640 to block 105719
3000 from block 105720 to block 115799

PoS from block 115800

It's a shame your pool went down overnight for a good 10 hours or more.

I can't afford to leave my rigs pointed there for such downtime.

On another note, I see ther genesiscoin website doesn't work, and that my wallet won't update, even with the latest peers.dat file....
Has this coin ran it's final days???

If the coin want to be listed in mintpal, it need 20+ BTC, it is too much.

Maybe the devs need try to add it to some other new exchange platform.

I agree mintpal is probably out of reach right now (they are a bunch of extortionist crooks anyway IMHO). I would suggest comkort.com They are a great exchange with the best interface of ANY of the exchanges I've used, great customer support and I think it's reasonable to get GNS added there. Plus it's already on the list, just need to start voting (once per hour if you aren't registered, 3 times and hour if you are).

Guys I would not do any voting or any promotion at all until the dev gets a bit more serious about this project.  As you can see he doesn't say much and is never on.  He doesn't seem the sort of dev that will take this coin anywhere through lack of enthusiasm and lack of any real of communication or commitment .

-> Come on to http://gns.coins4everyone.com!

Our pool is UP and RUNNING!

To get plenty of Genesis Coins, just point your miners to:
Stratum: stratum+tcp://stratum.coins4everyone.com
Port: 3474

Come on, we need more hash power, point your miners to our pool and let’s spread hashrate! ;-)

It's a shame your pool went down overnight for a good 10 hours or more.

I can't afford to leave my rigs pointed there for such downtime.

On another note, I see ther genesiscoin website doesn't work, and that my wallet won't update, even with the latest peers.dat file....
Has this coin ran it's final days???

i don't know what you talking about.
anyway, first rule of the miner: always set failover pool, that's what everyone should do.

Hash with us and mine fresh coins @ http://www.coins4everyone.com

Not if we can get it on to another exchange. It's been moving up the comkort voting list for some while now.

Hi all,

We decide to release POS wallet in next week, at the beginning of May.

We will post our current wallet to Mega.

Thanks.

As I have been saying for a while, this dev is clearly full of lies and is wasting people's time.  I actually think this was a project by some school kid who took on more than he could chew.  Good luck with this coin guys and I hope the dev proves me wrong, doubtful though.

I've been thinking that this coin needs a developer takeover, ala WhiteCoin. Obviously it has good specs and despite all the reversals people are still mining it, so there's a community here to build from. Thoughts?

If the dev has not released the POS wallet at the beginning of June he has definitely abandoned this coin.

Agreed. I think we should seek out a new developer if the original developer doesn't release the new wallet by June. That seems perfectly reasonable. In the meantime I suggest we keep voting for GNS on Comkort.com. It's been rising through the ranks, so let's keep it up. This would be a great little exchange for GNS.

Interesting wallet.
Yes the Dev had some great idea's, shame he wasn't to committed to this project though.  He could of made a name for himself but instead ruined it.

Well it's June now and still no word from the original developer of GensisCoin. Is anyone else interested in finding a new developer for this coin, or is it time to call it quits?

If we could successfully make the switch to PoS then it wouldn't require a full time developer for this coin to continue.

Well I guess it's dead now. Wallet won't sync anymore. Stuck on block 117255. Sad - so much potential wasted. Many coins never even get this many blocks minted.

OK I got mine to sync again. Still rising up the list of coins on the comkort.com voting page. If we could get it back on an exchange, then maybe we could attract a developer to finish the switch to PoS.

Looks like coin is dead. So sad..

coins don't die, they just go dormant waiting to be revived.

If someone was to take over this coin, I would donate half of the coins I mined ( 20,000,000 ) to them.

We need POS implemented and somehow get put back on an exchange...

I know, its essentially working for 20 million zero's... but if you were to make something of it, dem zeros could turn into sat's.
anyone else out there holding a good chunk of coins that are willing to add to this pot.

Any takers ?

I'd definitely contribute as well. And we are the closest to getting put back on an exchange on comkort.com. I recommend anyone interested in GenesisCoin continue to vote there.

wow, I really thought I would have to wait days for a reply.... Thanks, you have enlightened the little hope I had for this. i cant figure out how many coins are currently in circulation (getinfo doesnt show me for some reason).  i would like to keep an updated coin count and percentage for the take-over bounty just to show how much they are actually getting.

I had found a block explorer with a richlist a while ago, but unfortunately I did not bookmark it.  I am pretty sure it was not the poolerino one linked on the OP.

does anyone know where it is or have it bookmarked ?

well after lots of searching still cant find the top 100 list... oh well, but I did figure out the total current coin supply is about 2.3 billion.

so, with my 20,000,000 plus QuadraQ's contribution, we must be at least at a 1% total coin supply for bounty... that must be appealing to someone out there.

why start a new crap coin when you can take one over... Cheesy

At the moment I am doing some work for mooncoin. Created http://mooncoin.rocks/, because mooncoin.info is offline since mid july, installed the QT development environment for testing changes in source code etc...perhaps I will be able to understand more and more details ... GenesisCoin is interesting. But I will not work on it at the moment but perhaps in some weeks/month maybe.  Smiley
