A member received merit if he/she did a good post or interact, contributed something useful here.

boss, what you wrote is not newbie knowledge. This post is your great initiative to tell the others that you are not newbie.

merit is for quality post and somewhat posts are made with efforts from posters. Sometimes people give merit not because the quality of post is high.

merit does not relate to merit cycling or exchanging by its design.

If you want to maximize your rank, then you need to increase two statistics which are listed on your profile:

• Merit, which is gained by making good posts.

If you make ten thousand posts in a week, your activity will be capped and you will still be a Newbie. If you make ten thousand useless posts over any period of time, you will gain zero merit and you will still be a Newbie. You can rank up only by making good posts consistently. It's quality over quantity.

When trying to write quality posts, a lot of people act as though they're writing a book report for school: putting facts that we already know into their own words. Nobody wants to read that, and you will not get merit for it. Moreover, the length of your post and the quality of your English are only minor factors. In trying to write a quality post worthy of merit, you should offer new ideas, personal experiences, or perspectives that other forum users will actually find new and interesting.

Not really. There are many Merit Sources that are rather newish to the forum, being just two or three years old, with likely lack of connections to anyone previously here.

Welcome to bitcoin mate. The first thing you should do is to read the rules and guidelines. It is written there about what is merit and its purposes.

Well regarding about merits, you can get merit naturally by making high quality post that contains useful information to help others but other than that you can actually get merits by posting in a thread where they give merits. You just have to follow their rules. I've been a newbie and it really helped me.

This forum is not about merit, it is about posting about bitcoin and crypto generally, merit is just an aspect that makes this forum posts to have quality and nothing more than that. Which means you will need to learn more about bitcoin, check what good posters are posting, learn from them, make researches and enjoy your interaction on this forum. Your posting quality will determine your merit, the more you grow the more you will know more.

You don't need to focus on earning merit as this is not merittalk.org but bitcointalk forum. You have to change your goal right now to read, study and share then meritd will find a way to you. I completely agree with you, a purpose of this forum is allow each user express themselves freely and share perspectives based on different exposures, thinking and mindsets on majorly bitcoin related topics and then other topics. If a user like me find your post or comment beneficial to me in some way i may decide to give you a merit.

So IMHO there is no fixed way to earn merit other than to be of benefit in your contribution to someone through original and well composed post and comments in the forum.

Btw in one world to get merit Efforts are playing a good role. The more you give efforts the more chance of earning merit. So I would suggest you to first read all the rules and take a about it, then try to spend your time to give efforts on which you have good knowledge.

Seems I didn't include the thread about how to create a high/good/constructive posts and proper quoting. You can start by stopping what you just did and learn how to use bb codes. OP did two bad things

• Making multiple posts in a row that breaks the rule #32 of the forum (see the quote).
• Quoting inappropriately. Most of times, poster should not quote all the post to reply to another. Because, usually a poster will only answer one or a few points in a post so please quote exactly the point you want to answer or discuss with

You should avoid those people especially if they are selling merit because once you get caught you will be red tag just like what @bL4nkcode said. I'm pretty sure they are trying to sales talking to you on how you will rank up easily if you bought merit from them. If you could put the link here or the screenshot of what they are actually doing then you are helping the community.

Just read all of the suggestions and the sticky those are the unofficial rules that would avoid you from trouble in the future. Most newbies I've seen here posting like nothing like copying an article without giving the credit of the author ended up banned forever.

It seems to me that for some newbie members, participating in this forum has become a kind of job and earning opportunity, which is a completely wrong motivation, and in the long run it will lead to their expulsion from the forum.
I used to run merit giweaway topics in this beginners section but I gave up because I would get at least a few messages from newbie members each time asking me to give them merit.
In fact, it seems to me that we talk too much about the merits here and that we should talk more about how each of us can contribute to the forum, help other members etc.
Everything else will come naturally if we have the right attitude and are willing to help others.

First and foremost, welcome to the Bitcointalk forum. I highly suggest that you should take time in reading the rules of the forum before you start your journey.

When it comes to merits, treat it as a bonus. You can’t expect members to give you merits for every “high quality” or “helpful” post that you’ve published. Also, you must not have a mindset of “I’m gonna keep posting so that I’ll be getting merits” or something like that. You will get pressured for sure.

However, if you post with passion or enjoying your time here on Bitcointalk without thinking of the merits, you will be surprised later on that you are given a merit by someone for a helpful post or reply that really “impact” them.

The way the system is now is not welcomed by me.Merit is no longer based on reasonable and quality posts anymore.One will compose a very unique post,but at the end of the day,zero merit is what he will have.

Giving of merit is no longer based on how quality your posts can be or how good your post is,it is now based on the number of persons that knows you in the forum and in your local boards.

I’d say that many other factors weigh-in, although some affinities may exist over time due to style, frequency of encounter, and content preferences (as can happen in the opposite direction). Bear in mind that there are often topics that are rather recurrent, and normally the early bird gets the worm. People’s criteria changes over time, and so do their awarding habits invariably.
 
On a side note, I’ve taken a look out of curiosity at some of my ratios, and over 76% of my posts have not been merited. Granted that it’s still a good ratio overall (and even more so by comparison), but it doesn’t mean that the said percentage of posts are pointless.

When I give someone a merit, it’s always because that particular post helped me in some way, because I learned something, got new information etc.

That's why its better to create a low length of post but on point and we can see the simplification of the answer given on the thread for sure its merit worthy. But its also good not to think about those since if we think about it more we will struggle since we will be force to spam for thinking that each of our post will get a merit to the users here.

Let the contribution of you to bitcointalk and one day the things will come to you which is better than chasing it.

See i would like to advise you to explore the forum to the extent you can do and find the best suitable guide for you that could lend a helping hand in earning merit.

There are some ways by which you can earn merits easily like there are some newbies merit giving thread on which you can complete the requirements and get merit as reward such as by @OgNasty and @Ratimov and you could probably find them on 1-2 page on B&H section.You could also try this test if you wish to do so and others but search for them.

Second and best option is to do make quality posts on the forum as this is main point of this whole system by @theymos and this could be achieved with knowledge and healthy discussion.

But you have made very few posts in these days and out of them 2 are bounty related submission and all rest are reply to your this thread.But if you are dedicated to earn them and learn on forum give time and your focus on acquiring tips and knowledge from senior members.Merit will come afterwards automatically.

Have you ever been in elementary school to high school, I think it's common for everyone to go to school.

Here comes the question again, have you ever got (rank 1/achievement) in school, if ever what you did, studied, knowledge, creative ideas and answered all the exams given by the teacher, didn't you.

So, in this forum it's not much different from what you do in school, you're smart you get (Merit) you're not smart you don't get (Merit), do you understand what I mean, if yes, that's great and if not, I don't know what to say to the OP.

Oh that's why you only got 1 merit since October since you didn't think that getting merit is harder than you think  , Anyways getting merits is not about only like that since there are several thread or information posted without acquiring any merit. Sometimes you need to be humorous or shall we say on point when posting something so that you can get the merit what you want.

But maybe its not good to focus upon hunting it since there are only few members here actively giving a merit to anyone who post their personal opinions so maybe focus to learn new things or gather information on what you want to focus on venturing on crypto.

I see threads like this, my eyes stay pinned on your merit, post and activity series with an expectation that, at least your activity and post count must have been way up to constitute a issue for the author but, have been disappointed a few times like in your case. They are low, your account @Op was created an hour before you made this post, no doubt ther is a possibility of an introduction and telling what is what but, coming the next minute to create a thread talking about earning merits makes it look like your just trolling and that doesn't help so much.

Abolish that idea and stick to learning, contribute positive ideas, bring new information to the forum and be you! Then the merits would come!

Irrespective a quality post, its the reader who reads and accepts that that is a worth post giving information and being a quality post, give a merit to it. At times a quality post is not read by many and that goes off unmerited. But yes as like, every other platform, consistency will pay off. Yes, a quality post will one day be acknowledged irrespective of where and on what board its posted.

It is partially true. There is no perfection on Earth and there are loopholes with which people use their sMerit inappropriately just as likes, supports or lazily dump their sourced sMerit to complete their sMerit distribution.

Again, it is partially true but if you make quality posts consistently, you will do receive merit. Additionally, there is multibilateral compensational effects.

As a newbie i advise you get yourself familiar with the forum rules and understanding the things to be done and things not to be done in the forum before you think of ranking up. To get promoted to higher ranks you need to create a quality posts and contribute to the forum while avoiding plagiarism and along the line you may earn merits but its not guaranteed though.

Actually you are right because a good quality post is what fetch merit,  in the aspect of exchanges of knowledge, no objections, because anyone who found he or her ways in bitcointalk community and also engages in the interactions of bitcoin conversation or communication is obviously exchanging knowledge, because their is no way you can respond to chat without understanding the point of a writer the process reading it and in same vein understand it you are exchanging knowledge and obtaining wisdom, the only thing that backslide many newbies not to continue is by not earning merit like others, so the strategies to earn merit is all this things we point out.

Maybe it is so in the local sections of the forum if there are not enough members who can give merits but I think it is not so in the English part of the forum.
Personally, whenever I see a quality and constructive post, I will give merit and I will not even look at who the author of the post is, because it is completely irrelevant.
I'm sure that most other members of this forum also reward with merit every quality post regardless of who the author is.
Perhaps the problem is that your definition of quality post does not match the definition of quality post by most members of this forum.

Merits can be received by contributing to the forum by own experience and knowledge. It completely depends on the community, how they take it for granted and offers Merit for information published on the forum.

Knowledge of any specific stream, including years of experience, can be easily identified by content published on the forum.

Great understanding and great explanatory content are always great. It gives higher values to other users of the forum.

Collected merits always show the user's credibility towards forum contribution.

Sharing knowledge and if that's is found informative and useful,a merit is given. Not all would give merits and not each informative, useful and quality posts would get a merit. It depends in who reads and how attractive it is to the reader. Many good posts are either skipped or not watched. But yes keep up posts informative and to the point.

It would be counterproductive, and actually disincentive people (with a certain amount of available sMerits) from posting, were they required to Merit when replying. Merits would actually circulate less as a result.

It’s quite usual for accounts to rack their brains early in the game, on how to get more merits flowing in the system (I did after a month and a half or so), or devising ways to set a higher focus on lower ranks. After some time, one will likely see things in a somewhat different way, and whilst the more the merrier could be a thing, there is that factor related to the content that people post that should carry the weight, and to a highish degree it does. That is where the focus should be on, and if it becomes evident that tons of good posts go unmerited, then there would be a clear call for racketing the brains on how to move things along.

As things stand, there are many chances to earn some Merits here (post revision threads, signing messages and guessing games for example) that give an exceedingly easy entry point to earning Merits. But that should not blind people from the fact that the focus of Merits is on content, and that takes some effort to align with Merits.

Having said that, I’m all in for "the more eyes on the table the better" thing, but not forcibly imposed, and change driven by evidence rather than perception, in general terms.

To earn merits you need to be a quality member it's not all about how long you will reply to a thread it's all about the content as long as this content might help other people and the whole community for sure there's merit will come. People always come here on the forum and ask frequently how to earn merit because they know there's a chance to earn but after they know the merit requirement for now they already abandoned their account. Being a newbie in this forum seems very difficult because most of them keep asking the same thing on many occasions. Do you want merit? Work for it by posting qualitatively. To be merited by someone can't be foreseen when or by the kind of post you made. Being merited by someone comes when you least expected. Contribute and suggest meaningfully to post been shared in this forum. Then expect to be merited by someone

You are right on the part that knowledge is essential for obtaining merit on the forum but it should be reflected in your post and then it should be liked by some members who can then give you merit.Keep in mind the main goal is to share good information with members like someone has asked a technical question and you know the answer for the same then you should explain him in detail the process and help him and for that you can get merit from other members who liked your post.

Gaining knowledge and learning is continuous process and you need to evolve yourself with time and make quality post that don't have irrelevant information and be on topic that will help you to gain merits.It always come with time so make sure you are dedicated towards it.
