Before determining bitcoin vs ethereum, you need to understand the two cryptocurrencies. The two cryptocurrencies have different motivations and goals. Ethereum has different goals that are different from bitcoin. If bitcoin is an investment, ethereum acts as a decentralized computing network for application development. So which one is better between bitcoin vs ethereum? You have to adjust to the investment period. In the next ten years, bitcoin will clearly be profitable. If by "choosing" you mean putting 100% of your crypto portfolio into either BTC or ETH, then it would be the most foolish thing to do to put it into Ethereum.

Ethereum solves no problem by smart-contracts that cannot be solved otherwise. Its just that the open source ethos of development get a boost and people are thus building on it. Even then, all that it relies on is the ethos and community.

Every single solidity dev can scam you whenever he wants. There is literally NOTHING people will be able to do if they just decide to make this thing centralized and run it for their own profit. This is the reason that despite the promises, major companies have not gone full-time into Ethereum. This is also the reason that people are looking towards a multi-blockchain future when it comes to smart-contracts.

Bitcoin on the other hand solves an actual problem that nobody else has or ever will. It will exist as "money" even if everything else goes away. This is why, you may "choose" ETH if it excites you more but choosing it for your portfolio over BTC is plain ignorance.

Bitcoin and ethereum are coins that are very influential in the market, so the market is very dependent on bitcoin and ethereum. although the marketcap of both continues to decline, even the daily volume has lost to stable coins but the influence of bitcoin and ethereum is still strong, red or green the market is very dependent on bitcoin and ethereum.

indeed between bitcoin and ethereum are decent coins, both affect the movement of other coins, especially bitcoin. the daily volume of stable coins is bigger because in a situation like this more traders will keep their assets on stable coins, because they park their capital to wait for a good buy area. bitcoin is fully decentralized unlike ethereum

Why? At the moment Bitcoin has 15.000 nodes deployed around the globe (source: https://bitnodes.io/) while Ethereum has 6.000 nodes (source: https://www.ethernodes.org/) so this makes them both fully decentralized.

No doubt both bitcoin and Ethereum are decentralized but the question is which of the two are more trustable. Bitcoin supply is fixed to 21 million which cannot be changed/altered. Ethereum supply is not limited. The Ethereum developer moves the eth from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake. There is no such liberty in bitcoin and it will always remain in its original form.

What do you define as an entity?

I mean a sum of people who can easily affect the socio-economical outcome. For example, Vitalik Buterin on Ethereum.

Could an entity be a sector as well, i.e. exchanges as one entity cooperating/colluding driving prices up and down?

I was not referring to exchanges, no. More like to those whose project is completely depended on them.

What about Tether's potential influence?

They have totally different purposes, and remember BTC started it all.

This is not about doubts, ethereum is not perfectly decentralized, there are many aspect of ethereum that is centralized, most altcoins too are centralized in many aspect, this is not about comparing it to fiat or other centralized asset or currency, but there are some things about ethereum that is centralized, the developers will be the ones to make decisions, conclude it and make it part of the ethereum upgrade.

We must admit that the reason is simple , Bitcoin is the most popular currency and for many of us this is the safest investment we can have so yes it is Bitcoin is better than Ethereum.

If we look at it from a technological point of view, ethereum is currently superior to bitcoin but if we look at the market capacity, the trading volume of bitcoin is larger than ethereum, which shows that although bitcoin is an obsolete coin, many people prefer to choose bitcoin as an investment over ethereum. because they realize that bitcoin is the only coin that is able to provide greater profits among other coins in the long and short term.

You are right, all of them are good and this shouldn’t be a matter of comparing all, rather we should learn to appreciate all that we have,. And moreover if Bitcoin wasn’t created, I think other developers wouldn’t even have it in mind of creating anything such as cryptocurrency.

Although I know that there are quite a few people who have attempted creating something like crypto currency in the past , but Bitcoin was what opened that door , and now we can see a lot of cryptocurrencies being released almost everyday. The main focus of Bitcoin is transaction, while other cryptocurrencies are trying to expand the features of blockchain.

For me bitcoin is far superior than any other cryptocurrency. Ethereum is a good cryptocurrency too but bitcoin has the belief from most of the people in the crypto market.
Bitcoin being fully decentralized is trusted by most of the people while Ethereum is less decentralized than bitcoin.
Ethereum also has high gas fees issues which makes bitcoin the better option to make transactions.

Better go with both coins. The top most best coins to choose for long term. Bitcoin seems to be getting back from long correction and this is common before a spike. Eth will certainly follow it. Both coins have a huge trading volume in best exchanges. You can blindly choose both coins. Just invest 50:50 into each coin. ETH market is good as well. It always has a huge investors base and is in demand as like Bitcoin. So yes invest on both. Long term investment will bring you more profits than the short term.

I think the reason why Bitcoin would always best out most of these other crypto currencies in the market is because that it is truly decentralized. Other cryptocurrencies that you are going to see are not fully decentralized, and in one way or the other they are being controlled by some people, although they would say that they are decentralized.

So that means that Bitcoin is the true decentralized cryptocurrency you would find, and I think that is enough to say that it is better than most other crypto currencies and even ethereum. Ethereum is good as well in the sense that it offers smart contracts, but it is lacking when it comes to what Bitcoin has to offer. With that said, all of them are good, it just depends on what you want.

^ Truly decentralized is very important and you are right.
I am a BTC user, but I prefer not to compare the two because I believe they are both superior and have separate paths to take. Except for bragging rights, it does not matter which is the better and bigger one. ETH is already more widely used and has a larger number of developers working on it. That is to be anticipated in a network with so many possibilities, after all. As ETH has gained more value, Bitcoin's overall market share has been declining in recent months. But then, the only thing they have in common is that they both use the same currency and make a profit.
On my own, we seem to compare gold and silver which is all are the same have a value.

I see bitcoin and Ethereum as serving somewhat different purposes: bitcoin is digital gold whereas Ethereum is a more flexible smart contract platform using a different consensus algorithm. I believe both are valuable for the ecosystem and will survive long term. I believe both should be core investments.

One advantage of Ethereum is that a holder can earn staking rewards just from delegating the ether. You can also earn rewards with bitcoin on lending programs, though.

Although bitcoin and ethereum seem similar to me, I believe that the older an asset is, the better it is to trust. I know that Ethereum has better use of technology but the crypto market started with bitcoin and it may continue to grow like no other.

This is the funniest post I ever read about bitcoin and ethereum comparison because never that i come to think that these 2 coins have similarities aside from being both crypto.

The first Crypto coin which introduced first it's name is bitcoin and Etherium is late introduced. BTC is big blokchain as compare to etherium. BTC has 829.44 Bn marketcap and Etherium has 369.63 Bn marketcap.

Then? what? aside from mentioning their capitalization what more can you say?

These two, (Bitcoin and Etherium )are the most common and best cyrptocurrencies you can invest. But in terms of good returns and more profitable, I would say BTC is better and most superior among all of those cryptocurrencies out there.It has also the ability to hold value even at the time of crisis and it is the most valuable currency on the market which is already widely accepted for payments.

For me, etherium is more likely use for a payment equal to fiat currency. And bitcoin is likely form of gold but it is digital.

I think Bitcoin is still the main thing. A decentralized currency that is not controlled by anyone while Ethereum seems to be controlled by a few people. Although Ethereum is predicted to have a higher performance than Bitcoin, it cannot completely beat Bitcoin's position or shift people's views from Bitcoin to Ethereum just like that. Whether BItcoin or EThereum is the choice of each person depending on what strategy will be used in the future, because choosing the right coin is important.

They both use the PoW protocol, so they have some similar features. But many people have said that there is some kind of centralization in ethereum. One other thing I like Ethereum for is that the system is innovative and gives room to changes that usher in new technology. But bitcoin is not dynamic, will be what is use to be, anyone that tries a hard fork will fault or tire the system.
