Investing in Bitcoin and still be putting down your back up funds simultaneously have nothing to do with your financial capacity, but more to do with your ability to sort out your discretionary income, because if you can sort out your discretionary income, your can divide it into three places, one place for investment, one place to set up your emergency and reserve funds and other place for discretionary consumption. So you can do all that simultaneously, as long as you can figure out your discretionary income.

I disagree with you, if Investing in Bitcoin and putting down back up funds simultaneously has nothing to do with financial capacity then, if the finance is been taken off for instance, how do you go about it? You sound so funny dude, in everything we do about investment finance plays a major role because without it in the first place investment is not possible which means that we need finance in every Investment yet it doesn't mean one have to be very strong in their finance before they can invest.
Finance is what we actually need to buy out investment, but having a steady finance is very good to begin but it shouldn’t stop you from investing. Sometimes people tend to mistake finance with steady finance. You can begin your investment even without having a steady income, you can start your investment with funds from gifts and so many other ways.

Financial balance only makes it more easy, it makes you more consistent and give your holdings protection. A person will a consistent income can easily protect his holding by making provisions for emergency funds and reserve funds.

So yes we need finance to buy our bitcoin, or even begin our investment journey, a Steady income only makes it more easy and to be more consistent.

Pure fact guy, when you're  financially guide (capable) is very essential and can easily aid up someone else investment journey.

Again, there is this fact some people isn't getting right, especially those young investors inspiring to go into Bitcoin investment.

Some of them always think that it's important to first have a steady flow of income before investing and such idea can hinder a person with a good intentions from investing. Yeah, I can understand that a steady cash flow can be so flexible to any investment and also can be very beneficial , but it shouldn't be the reason for holding you back from doing what's expected.

What did you mean by starting our investment with funds from gifts and so many other ways?  You are making this look as though the gift will be coming everytime it is something that comes once a while sometimes you may not even get a gift for one year so waiting to start your investment with funds from gifts will make you look like unserious person because a serous investor will struggle to get a source of income so as to enable them carry out their investment plans, I'm not saying that it is a bad thing to invest with funds from gifts rather we shouldn't wait to start our investment with funds from gifts.

I don’t know if you are new to this thread but it have been said severally that bitcoin investment can start from gifts from loved ones, gambling or even money won from Lotto. You don’t really have to have a job to begin your Bitcoin journey, the wait will only delay your investment journey. I know gifts can’t be gotten everytime but at least any time we receive gifts in foam of money we can get discretionary income from it and we can begin our bitcoin journey.

Don’t get it wrong, it is preferably to have a consistent paying job but don’t let it be a Barrier between you and kick starting your bitcoin journey. So mate, yes we can start out bitcoin journey from gift so long we can get discretionary income from it.

I think it will be better you specify it as discretionary income so as not to end up confusing the new folks.. Finance could mean our whole salary or even the money needed for our basic needs and responsibility...But when you specify it as discretionary income, it tend to become more clearer that you are talking about the money which is left after our basic needs and responsibility has been duely sorted out...
Also it is not every funds from gift that you receive that should be invested into Bitcoin right away. Before making any investment, the investor has to assess himself to determine if that money is that which where can leave committed to Bitcoin for a long term duration...And if it is, then they could very well go ahead..But if it isn't, then it is best that the money isn't even invested in the first place.

However you feel comfortable with doing them at the same time is good for people who feel comfortable doing that. I don’t think there is any reason why I should be in a haste to start having an emergency funds when I’m just getting started with bitcoin, while I can build up my emergency funds along the line when I have gotten to a certain period of time frame which I can start building my emergency funds, people who are low income earners can still buy and accumulate bitcoin small small and still be building up their emergency funds little by little.

You seem to recognize that there is importance in building up back up funds, but for some reason you seem to think that you can delay in such action to start building back up funds.

Having such thoughts is going to put his investment in trouble and at risk. Emergency funds and/or back up funds cannot or should not be delayed for any reason at all. It is built simultaneously, and any attempt to gamble with it in terms of when you begin setting it up is equally giving your portfolio away for vulnerability. Emergencies are always unexpected, and so, we must prepare for it always because it can even happen as soon as you start investing.

In short, there is no such thing as investing in Bitcoin with any fund. The real thing is that Bitcoin should be invested using such money that even if the money is unused for a long time, the investor will not have any problem, that is, a reasonable income should be used for investment.

The right money to be used for your investment is called 'Discretionary income', the money left after handling basic necessities, yea. And makes it easy for the investor to buy with peace and without panic since he has handled his basic needs first.

And for your last statement, what do you refer to as a reasonable income? Maybe you mean enough amount of money, or the person should be earning enough income? You don't need all that to begin your investment. All you need is the ability to figure it your Discretionary income. And if you have figured it out, then you can begin your investment.

Low income Earners may face some challenges of consistently figuring out a Discretionary for there investments due to poor income availability, but that isn't a barrier for them to totally stay out. Once they have a Discretionary, they can always buy Bitcoin as they can afford using the DCA strategy

I guess I’m quite confused at this points, I’m wondering if I have to start building my backup funds immediately as I start investing in Bitcoin as a beginner, getting started with my bitcoin investments is very important, but if I don’t have enough discretionary income to start building a backup funds while I’m still starting my investments in bitcoin, I know it’s not necessary to have a backup funds while starting with my investing in bitcoin, but do I have to start building my backup funds as soon as I get started, Is it mandatory to start building a backup funds immediately as I get started, from what I have previously learnt from you on this thread I’m made to understand that we are meant to start building our backup funds when we’re 3 months into our bitcoin investment, I’m just wondering if there have been any changes to that strategy.

I don’t know how much delay is necessary, but 3 months into my bitcoin investment isn’t so horrible.

Since I’m not a big income earner, I have been buying bitcoin little by little as much as my discretionary income can afford, but I haven’t neglected the fact that I have to increase my cashflow so I can possibly increase my discretionary income as well, this was how I was able to start building my backup funds, it was 3 months into my Bitcoin investment, however I didn’t start building my backup funds immediately as I started buying bitcoin.

I think you are the one mixing things up here. Discretionary income is money left after you have settled  all essential expenses, but that doesn't mean you must finish building a full emergency fund before you can invest. These are two different things. You can divide your leftover money between investing some into bitcoin, building an emergency fund and backup funds all at same time.

Building emergency funds, back funds etc at same time is a matter of capacity because it takes a tight and a good source of income to build these at this same time, there are people who has the financial strength to do this and it is encourage for these kind of folks but as for those who don't have the financial strength or capacity to build these funds at same time, it will be wise they start accumulating their Bitcoin little by little and later start building up these other funds because it is not a must to build all at same time.
Even if the source of income is low, you can definitely invest, but you must be frugal for this because there are many people whose source of income is very low, but because they are frugal, they can save some of their income and with that savings, they can buy and deposit Bitcoin little by little. But if they are not frugal, they will never be able to deposit Bitcoin because they will use their low salary for various useless things, so they will not be able to invest. That is why I say that it is necessary to be frugal instead of worrying about a low-paying job. I think that even if it is a low-paying job, by being frugal, they will be able to invest and make their future bright.

No no my friend, I think you’ve gotten it all wrong.  Backup funds is important and necessary even as you’re starting your investment. It is mandatory you start investing with some kind of backup funds that’s why it’s important you invest with your discretionary income because it gives you the flexibility to build both your investment and your backups simultaneously.

The statement about waiting 3 months into your investment is totally wrong and inaccurate. I don’t think JJG has ever mentioned that; what I know is to build our emergency funds to cover for 3 months of our basic expenses.
The aim is to have financial safety net to cover expenses in cases of unexpected situations, it doesn’t matter the size or stage of your investment.

You may have been very lucky if you started your investment without any form of backup and you were able to sustain your investments until after 3 months before you started building your backup funds. Most people aren’t that lucky, so it’s better to do it the right way.

Questions for the member who coined "HODL" - GameKyuubi
Look, I have shared a strange post link, you will find out how important Bitcoin investment is if you go to this post link. How easy it was to invest in Bitcoin in the past, but now it has become very difficult in the present time, only from the financial point of view, those who invested in Bitcoin in the past are now very successful and have created a wealth of money.
But now you can buy just 1 Bitcoin by investing in Bitcoin with a wealth of money, then it was about 10 to 15 years ago, but from now on, imagine how much the price of Bitcoin can be worth 10 to 15 years in the future. Remembering this thought, you can participate in Bitcoin investment and take the opportunity to buy Bitcoin and you can follow the strategy to survive for a long time. By investing in Bitcoin, you can make yourself financially successful in the future.
We should learn from the past, but after reading your post, I feel that you are making the path of investing in the present very difficult by making a difference with the past. Investors have invested in the past, investors are investing now, and there are still many people who understand that if they invest, they can smile at success in the future, but they are not investing only out of fear, it will be seen that they will regret it at some point. Now, if some of my decisions are good for the future, then I think that I should definitely implement that decision by taking risks. You are making investment very difficult, but investment is actually not that difficult because a part of your income, that is, the money that remains after meeting all the needs, that is, the part that we consider as discretionary income, but with a part of that discretionary income, an investor can easily start investing and maintain the continuity of investment.

No work in the world is easy, but those tasks have to be made easy for people, people are traveling from the moon, people are bringing soil from Mars and researching it, so why can't we continue investing easily.

It's very true that accumulating Bitcoin and building the emergency, back up funds might not be built at the same time based on ones financial capacity, but they shouldn't be over looked cause those are important for the investment too, and can still be built gradually with the available reserve funds, if over looked cause there's not much income, an emergency situation can happen then the investor would sell at to settle it, which is not good for the investment.

Same way an investor with little income can gradually accumulate in bits consistently, that's how the emergency funds should gradually be built too cause no one knows when an emergency situation would happen but should be prepared to solve it.
Let me assume that I’m a newbie, and I have the resources to build an emergency funds and still be buying bitcoin at the same time,

If you are a bitcoin newbie and you do not have enough money to both buy bitcoin and to simultaneously build up your back up funds, then you do not have enough money (discretionary income) to be buying bitcoin.  You have to figure out how to increase your discretionary income by increasing your income and/or cutting your expenses.
I agree with you. this is important point,  people need to understand this, because sometimes we too focus to accumulate bitcoin and overlook our financial situation. emergency is real. is something that can happen at anytime, you may be consistent with weekly purchases, but once emergency happens, you may be forced to sell your bitcoin holding, just to take care of problems, when we overlook our financial situation, this may affect our long term plan, especially when the market is completely against our expectations. I think this is why to have backup funds matter, so that you can fine yourself in a position where you don’t have to depend your bitcoin to handle any unexpected situation.

I thought that my various post clearly explained the situation.  If you have absolutely no back up funds, then how the fuck are you going to know whether you are using non-discretionary money to buy bitcoin.

If you are not sure if you have any back up funds, then maybe you need to figure out some basic minimum amount that will help you to make sure that you have enough funds to make sure that you won't run out of money before you get paid next.  Perhaps one or two weeks worth of expenses?  You have to figure out how much you need based on your own information about the assurity of your getting paid and about the assurity of your basic expense amounts.

The more uncertain about when you are going to get paid next or the quantity of your basic expenses, then the more back up funds you need to have to make sure that you have enough money to make it until your next pay check.

Of course, we have always suggested to get started buying bitcoin right away as soon as you know that you have discretionary funds and also to build your back up and your bitcoin holdings at the same time, and it could take a year or more to build your back up funds to 3 months of your expenses, and you might even purposefully choose to emphasize building your bitcoin holdings greater an faster, so it could take you closer to 2 years to build up your back up funds.

You have to figure out your own situation in regards to how much to balance your bitcoin investment and your back up funds while trying to be reasonable and practical about the situation within the scope of your own cashflows including income and expenses... yet for the reasons that I have already outlined several times, it would seem to me that you are completely retarded and taking way too many risks if you are starting to buy bitcoin and you have absolutely no back up funds.

I don’t know how much delay is necessary, but 3 months into my bitcoin investment isn’t so horrible.

I am not talking about any delay, unless you have absolutely no back up funds, and you need to figure out how much back up funds you need to make sure that you are buying bitcoin from discretionary funds rather than going beyond your discretionary funds.  You need to use your judgement, and if you screw things up then you are going to be the one to suffer the consequences of such screw up(s).

Well if you already began buying bitcoin and you don't have any back up funds, and/or your back up funds are too small, then you should make sure to be building your back up funds.  You have been registered on the forum for nearly 14 months, so you have to figure out if your balance might be too great in one direction or another, and you should be able to build both your back up funds and your bitcoin holdings simultaneously, but if you are too imbalanced in one direction or another then you have to figure out some way to bring yourself into a reasonable balance based on your own judgement and hopefully without screwing things up too much in the process.

So many times guys here (including yours truly) have suggested to build both the bitcoin holdings and the back up funds simultaneously, yet if you already screwed up in the beginning, yet you believe that you have enough back up funds (even if they are not yet at 3 months of your expenses) you can continue to build both your bitcoin investment and your back up funds and figure out how much of a priority (or emphasis) to give to each of the categories.  There is not real way that anyone can substitute their judgement for yours, and you have to figure out your balance and/or to make adjustments to correct any mistakes that you might have had made or any imbalances that you might currently have in your bitcoin holdings and/or your back up funds.

[edited out]

I am not suggesting that anyone give greater priority to their emergency funds over getting started investing in bitcoin, and largely I am suggesting to get started investing in bitcoin and to build back up funds simultaneously.

If someone is starting to invest into bitcoin with close to zero back up funds, then yeah, it may well take them 1-2 years and maybe even longer to build their back up funds to a reasonably decent size (such as 3 months of their expenses), and yeah in their first year or two investing in bitcoin then they are likely going to need to be more careful and even their bitcoin might be partially serving as their back up funds, and they may well try to figure out systems so that their back up funds are continuously growing even though it is taking time to build up such back up funds, and yeah, even in the process of building their back up funds, they might run into some situations 6 months or more down the road where their income has gone down and/or their expenses have gone up so they do not have enough income to buy bitcoin during that time and they even have to tap into their back up funds to cover their basic expenses, and so they end up getting set back in terms of the size of their back up funds needing to be rebuilt in subsequent pay periods.. so yeah, it can take time and there can be various delays and even obstacles along the way of building their bitcoin holdings and/or their back up funds.

1) Self-Custody is a right.  Resist being labelled as: "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

Don't you think you are missing the point here? I know that having back up funds is very important when investing in bitcoin but that doesn't mean an investor must have e everything in place before they can start investing in bitcoin, the reason why we are to use our discretionary income is that it gives the room to build your investment gradually while you set aside money for your back up and also other necessary funds like the emergency funds from your discretionary income as you continue to buy bitcoin.

Nobody is saying that you must have all your financial goals completed before you can start investing in bitcoin, but still you gotta figure out if you have enough financial flexibility to keep investing while still building back up funds simultaneously and the mistake you’re making is assuming that having discretionary income automatically means that the person has enough money to fund both.

Let me ask you this, if someone has only $20 left with them after taking care of their expenses, how much of that money do you think can realistically go into bitcoin while still making meaningful progress towards an emergency fund?, not much i guess.

IMO, investing and building back up funds is not an equal practice for everyone because people’s financial situations differs from person to person, and that’s just the reality of it.

Everyone needs an emergency fund when they want to invest, and we personally do the same. We must have some kind of emergency fund before starting to invest, even if we later buy Bitcoin only with our discretionary income. Therefore, having an emergency fund is something that everyone who starts investing should have.

Because having an emergency fund allows us to invest with discretionary income, it provides a little protection when situations arise that require us to use the emergency fund, with the reason being that the emergency fund is an additional fund for us to invest in Bitcoin, especially if the portfolio we are building looks good in performance, so the use of the emergency fund is to purchase Bitcoin to increase the amount of our investment because with discretionary income alone, it looks like it is starting to improve, so it needs to be added to be able to have more assets in the future.

The main ability to start Bitcoin investment is to have  discretionary fund . And  if there is any  income source that is generating regular discretionary income from that fund we can buy bitcion regularly too by following dca method. . Bitcoin can brought  from that discretionary fund  and backup funds like emergency fund and reserve fund can also build buy discretionary income . Now before investing a perfect back up fund is not mandatory. If @Agbam means that there must be a mandatory backup before investing then  i will now agree with him.  Even if a newbie does not have a 3 to 6 months emergency fund , he can start with a small amount in Bitcoin. If we  say a newbie to complete all kind of financial preparations first then investing bitcion will be delayed. And backup fund does not mean that you have to keep a separate fund before starting Bitcoin. Specific fund, normal savings or fiat currency in the locker of the room can also work as a backup. So an investor actually  is not starting with zero backup at all.

The most balanced  concept is that just  suppose someone has $300 discretionary money after accounting for expenses. He doesn't need to put all of the $300 into an emergency fund for the first few months, and it may not be also logical to put all of the $300 into Bitcoin. He may give some to Bitcoin and some to backups based on his own circumstances. The ratio is not fixed as you know income stability, existing savings and expense are not the same for everyone. So I think @Female King statement is more logical.

I think that you are wrong with this your ideology here, where you said that we must have some kind of emergency funds first before starting our Bitcoin investment, that's a big misstep that will delay your Bitcoin accumulation, because to accumulate a reasonable emergency funds that will sustain you and your investment for a period of three months and above, if their is something like loss of job, it's going to take a whole lot of time, so it's more logical to start your investment and putting down you emergency funds alongside it simultaneously, because like that you can easily hit the ground running, instead of wasting your time by trying to put only one of it in place first.

You seem to recognize that there is importance in building up back up funds, but for some reason you seem to think that you can delay in such action to start building back up funds.

3 months into your Bitcoin Investment without any form of back up funds huh? This is ridiculous. It's totally horrible and the highest form of risk and gambling with your investment. Its completely a wrong investment ideology to start your investment and not start building your back up funds alongside.

Maybe, let's say you were very much lucky to have not sold off your assets due to emergency situations that may have surfaced during this your miraculous 3 months of investment without back up funds which you claim to have done.

But it's very wrong and investors should avoid taking such unnecessary risk. I bet you, you may not be that lucky next time. Build up back up funds and protect your investment as a long term investor.

That is not the point dude. It is totally wrong to begin to buy Bitcoin using your emergency funds, nope. Your emergency funds is meant to protect your investment from sudden collapse that comes from emergency financial needs. You buy Bitcoin from your discretionary income, also build back up funds from the same discretionary, so that when emergencies arises, you can use the emergency funds to handle the unexpected emergency and not touch your investment.

You seem retarded to proclaim that our emergency funds is used as an additional funds to buy Bitcoin. Never! The emergency funds serves as a protective net that helps you out when emergencies arises which makes you not to tamper with your investment.

Your statement is totally wrong and can mislead newbies who are new to the system to think that it is right to add up your emergency funds to you discretionary to buy Bitcoin. I think you should edited Asap.

You buy Bitcoin with your Discretionary income, that is money left after handling basic necessities. There is no need to put yourself under pressure or wanting to buy as many as and/or as others are buying. Investment is no competition. While you are buying(the DCA preferably), you are also building your back up funds which serves a safety net for you. You are not meant to buy Bitcoin with the same emergency funds you are building. The essence of the emergency funds is to be used to handle any emergency situations that may happen so that you don't tap from your portfolio.

I believe for this same reason he is planning to go 100% into his bitcoin investment without considering other factors that would enable him have a sustainable investment journey. Going all in into your portfolio and ignoring building your emergency fund is never a good practice. Your bitcoin portfolio should have a good priority as well as your emergency fund since this emergency fund ensures you can hold your bitcoin for longer even when situations you have not planned for comes by. It is  advisable to build your emergency fund until it is at up to 3 months worth of your expenses.

Investors need to create a healthy balance between investing into bitcoin, having backup funds and living their normal life which is why emergency fund is very important and discretionary consumption should be considered alongside investing into bitcoin.
