When a human is born. his mind is like a blackboard. The teacher draws some white lines on it. These white lines give light to his mind and aware him of himself, the world and that is in the world. These are the teacher who shows him the right path and aware him about science and technology.

The teacher is the benefactor of the nation. They make the mind of their students. They form the nation. A nation cannot pay for his services. If there will be a good teacher. There will be a good nation and the morale of the whole nation will high. They are kingmakers. The whole world pays homage to the teacher.

I agree with you. Teachers have an important role to play in our life. They take their time to lecture and build us to become useful in life. I remember how my secondary school teacher usually takes good care for us back then in school like we were his children. He did not only taught us education, but also explained to us how to overcome challenges in life. Without teaches, there will be no future.They probably deserve more. Some of the things I learnt in high school are not in important to me now, this are things that took my time for me to understand.  Things like this I could not escape them because it was a Conposary lesson, right then I know all those stuff are not for me  but I had no option than to offer them. The educational system needs to be reformed,  curriculum needs to be changed.

It's interesting to learn about the difference between countries, thanks. Although I do still think there's a critical difference between being educated for the purpose of learning useful facts and skills, and being educated for the purpose of passing exams.

It is certainly a a good idea to try to measure the performance of teachers relative to all other teachers, and the easiest way to measure this is through exam scores, so I understand why the approach is used, I just think it's somewhat counterproductive in that you're not measuring their ability to teach the kids so much as their ability to train them. But I'm not sure how you'd obtain quantitative data to determine teacher ranking other than this way, so I don't know what the alternative is.

I'd also argue that - again, specifically in my country - teaching at university is all wrong. A generation ago it was free for students to attend, they just needed high enough exam scores to meet the entry requirements, and at university they were taught for the purpose of learning. Nowadays that's all changed, there are now huge fees involved, kids have to pay a lot of money to attend university, the number of university places open has increased dramatically, so now practically anyone can attend, regardless of exam scores, so long as they're willing to either stump up the cash or else get saddled with debt. And because such high fees are involved, it's not really about learning for the sake of learning, it's primarily a transaction, paying cash for qualifications.

Going to a University today basically means you are subsidizing radical indoctrination of students, and are taking on tens of thousands of dollars of debt (at least in the US) for the privilege of doing so.

As you note that almost anyone can attend University, there are many University degrees that are worthless, or even less than worthless, such as gender studies.

In reference to your concerns about standardized tests, ideally, these tests would measure how well a student can apply what they were supposed to have learned. For example, instead of reciting facts, the student would need to apply concepts they learned to determine the answer to a question.

i see university as more of a 'freebie' for employers by them not having to offer any training. and instead saddle the training cost on the unemployed person trying to get a job.

it gets even funnier how even when people are university qualified they then have to gain experience by doing voluntary/intern work, or do even more low paid 'apprenticeships', just to get a foot into the door of an employment prospect.

It depends from the country, but I know one perk that teachers have in my country. They have 1 month paid vacation. For most students, June-August are holidays. June is the month when 9 and 12 grade students pass exams, July is the month when teachers prepare study program fro the next year, and August is the month they do nothing, but receive basic salary (usually they get extra for being a classroom teacher (fully responsible for all students) + paid for extra lessons + paid if they teach not their basic subject (teacher of physics can easily teach basic math)).

Normally  in many  countries teachers are not paid very well which is unfair. The list polical seat earn more than a high school teacher and lecturer in the University which is not supposed to be so.

Teachers are nation builder. Teachers are professional who are trained specifically to train pupils, students from kindergarten  to the terminal of education in any part of the world. Teachers are builders who psychologically and educationally trained to understand  the mental ability of every child to be what they can do best in pursuit of education.

Today's world of development call it engineering,  medical,  military,  religion  etc, are the brain work of a teacher. So looking at the human development holistically,  without Teachers the world would not get to where it is. It would be appropriate to say after God, the Teachers should be mark next for the ability to procreate and bring human to what they should be in the future.

I would say that universities generally do not provide employer specific training. At least not today. There is really no reason for an employer to require a college degree today for most jobs outside of being a medical doctor.

College graduates typically have no particular reason to have to live in a particular area. So an employer paying for a college degree will have difficulty retaining a college graduate employee whose education they paid for.

The problem with costs is that they are not limited by market economics. Government lending to students who do not understand the concept of money has allowed colleges to charge prices that are unrelated to their value.

All of the professions that we have came from the teachers. We salute all of them and they really deserve the best. But sadly, there are those nations or places that can't increase the wages of them due to the lack of budget and situation of their country. Do you know that teachers role on child educational background cannot be overemphasized, to train a child requires parental skills, patience, tolerance and effective teaching aid skills, that's why atime i look the the lecturer's profession but give it lesser prestige compare to teacher's effort through knowledge impactation, a lecturer will also read and get you informed of certain thoughts and school modules not minding how and if you get the process to fully understand it, but a teacher will make sure that the child understand the teaching, acquired the knowledge and do a follow-up on the continuous assessment to ensure that the child maintain it despite all efforts, shouts, and repeated teachings yet they got paid a peanut salary.

Most countries don't have respect for education, hence teachers are the treated as slaves. In some countries country teachers earn the least salary.

In fact universities move unqualified students from other departments to the education department because nobody wants to be a teacher.

Less motivated teachers would give low quality lessons. Low quality lessons will produce half baked graduates. Half baked will lead to a dysfunctional society.

The key to the life of a teacher is to educate and build a nation. The people of a nation are enlightened in the light of education by their hands and subsequently contributed to the development of the country & plays a big role.

As you said - Educated individuals who have played a role at all levels, starting with the president of a country, come to this stage because of the contribution of a teacher.

Traditionally Teachers had to travel through the land convince farmers to give him part of their harvest in exchange for educating their children.

It is a common knowledge that teachers are nation builders and they also deserve the best in every society. The teachers are not only the professional teachers, the parents at home are also teachers and even the pastors and imams in the church and mosque are also teachers and everyone of them put efforts together to raise a child in the society.

In formal education, the professional teachers are producing doctors, engineers, lawyers and many more. It can be that the same teachers produces the kidnappers, criminals and rapist. All of them pass through the same process of learning.

Some countries has bad education process or syllabus, when they have good teachers they will end up to produce substandard students in the society who cannot compete with their international mates. In the nation building it can be seen that government plays the major role.

Teachers are the one to help students achieve every milestone of the student and drives to success. From the very beginning of school days they are the one who spends majority of time with us constructing and moulding us in spiritual, scientific and moral values.

I see teachers as shapers of the world both morally and intellectually. But unfortunately they are being neglected at the end of the day by those they put in much energy to shape for the future. Especially in the third_world countries teachers are placed below in the hierarchy of esteemed professions, giving much esteem to professions like medical doctors, engineering, law etc, but forgetting that these aforementioned professions wouldn't be without a teacher in the gap.

In many third_world countries, especially African countries teachers are underpaid, owed salaries for months, left with no promotions and incentives as part of encouragement and entitlements. All of these and more have made the teaching profession in these countries to be tagged as a "poor man profession", cause there's nothing to go home with after years of service. It's quite saddened!

Teachers deserves more but I need to understand more about what op meant by teachers deserve more. Teachers are being paid heavy  for their jobs and what else do they want again. They keep fighting for more pays and allowances and the government always adhere to their cry. I don't know about other regions where teachers might be paid token for their job.
