The one who contributes little money, would not have the right to call him secondary, I know people who have secondary jobs that bring them a lot of money but they would never leave the "main" job, sometimes it is not that simple to explain but the main job sometimes offers benefits, status and in some cases it is simple, it is your profession and what you like, and from that point of view they would stay with the one that brings them less income, but meets their basic needs.

If Mr X earns better from a side job when compared to the income from his career option, does the side job still qualify to be called a side job?
Usually career jobs offer opportunities for the individual to reach to upper positions through promotions inside the working field. So even though you earn less from your main job when compared to a side job, you shouldn't give up on it, because on long run it's possible you will have your wage raised and receive extra benefits from the employer, especially if you are an employee on the public sphere.

The important is to work and make as much income as you can. Sometimes we have to earn less now to profit more tomorrow...
While I get your point about acquiring as much as possible, which is something I also support, however, sometimes we shouldn't only seek out money. Don't get me wrong, it's an understandable argument, the world is going through a crisis, cost of living is rapidly rising due to inflation, the pandemic has affected many businesses and sectors, and continues to do so, leading to unemployment, mental issues and financial depression, consequences that we'll suffer for many years to come.

On the other hand, after suffering in a job I do not like (and continue to do so), just because it pays well, personally, if I had the opportunity to do something else, with worse pay, but better conditions, then I'd do it.
Still on preference because some could make out some adjustments as long they could earn big compared on sticking with their passion but earns less.It is understandable that you should really be

able to get lots of resources in terms of income rather than have none.It doesnt matter if its out of your comfort zone or not as long you could able to survive and live then
thats the main priority of someone who had really been striving on finding one and not all would really be having that chance on getting one.So be thankful if ever.
Life shouldn't be simply about surviving though. The truth is, that chances are, we'll eventually land on job that we won't fancy, but it'll get us through the month. Certainly, things could have also been worse, worse pay, even worse conditions and so on. If I had the opportunity however, I'd still choose a worse pay for better conditions and more leisure time.

In this case you are right, because a job you don't like intensely can be harmful to your mental health and welfare. And without a healthy and happy mind there isn't life, so it is the most important aspect someone should worry about beyond any financial returns and opportunities that become secondary in this situation.

But if the job we are talking about is something you can do without any problems, you should continue on it even if the payrate is considerably low. Nowadays we really can't demand too much. Those who have a job should be already very thankful for that.

A job is usually not considered as being the main job most times just because of the earnings, some times it is in the peace and fulfillment one has while engaging in it.
Some times, side jobs with higher earnings are temporary, nevertheless, whether being the side or main job, every job deserves attention, dedication and commitment from us.

General opinion is that a side job is one that supports the main income of an individual, often times perceived as something that brings little money to add to what you make from your day job. If Mr X earns better from a side job when compared to the income from his career option, does the side job still qualify to be called a side job?
Well, it depends. A main job for me is a stable source to earn money regardless how much is my salary. If my side job is giving me better earnings compared to my main job it doesnt mean it can also be called as my main job because what I consider is the stability.

Nevertheless, main or side job the fact is both are a sources to earn money and its not an issue where you earns better.

What important is you're financially stable for having these jobs.

As long as the side job brings me decent income I am much fine and would continue to work on it so. When compared to the income from the main job, obviously or often the income from the side job / part time job, would be less. What is needed here is, the extra time and energy we spend is what is hectic here. Often the main job eats up more time and might not able to concentrate on the side jobs. And often because of the pressure from main jobs, we dont give out 100% focus on to side jobs. But yes those who manage both simultaneously, hats off to them.

For me the difference between a side job and the main job is not really based on the money, but rather the time spend it per week or month. If the money per hour on the side job is higher than in our main job, it's not necessary our new main job. First of all, we need to determine how many hours we could actually do our side job. Is it possible to do it 40h per week, and will we still get the same high pay then? Many times the side job is limited in time and wouldn't work out as the main job. In my case for example the payout is very volatile. I am selling second hand and antiques online and there a some factors which determine how much time I can spend on it. Getting new things to sell his hard for the right price, if I overpay I might sit on it for months before I get an offer. It also can happen that I am not selling anything in a month, and then the week after I am selling 5 things at once. It would be hard to do it as a main job because of the unpredictable money inflow.

Yes, our main job takes up a lot of our time, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to make more income from your part time job than what you are making from the main job. Some people would start up a freelance business, and as time goes on their freelance business grows as a part time job, and they start to get too much of Orders from client to the extent that they are making so much more than what they are making from their main job.

At that point they would even decide to quit their main job and focus on their freelancing businesses since it is now booming and making them much more income and even lesser stress. So it is very much possible for that to happen Tongue.

Well, I think if you are making more money from your side job than your main job, but you still maintain that other first job, the other one still remains your side job, because it’s definitely taking much of your time anyway. But, it is now up to you to see the potential in the side job, and know whether if you should leave your main job and go fully into this your source of side income, is it really going to be worth it as time goes on?

I know a lot of people who had a side job, and when they realized that their side job was more worth it and was generating more income for them, they decided to leave their main job and go fully into the side job and made it their main job and grew it to a larger extent that they were able to become financially stable

Haha, good one op! The main job will always be the main job if you want it to be. It depends entirely on the person or on the perspective of another. Some may see main jobs as main income provider while others may think main jobs are jobs that consume the most time and effort from a person. Whatever the case, as long as it keeps a roof over your head and food on the table, it doesn't really matter that much what it is called.
That is the type of thing that my friends are all doing and I do not understand. They have their main job that makes them money, and they see that as their job. I would say that have your own job that you want to do in the world, you could have a "main job" that gives you money, but then for the rest of your hours, focus on doing what you want to do. Let that consume every single hour of your life.

I work nearly 12-13 hours a day, all for the "main" job that I have because I found the job that I love the most, it is the most magnificent job for me, it is content writing and many people may not like it and hate it but the reality is that I still love it and it is perfect for me.

If you can't let your favourite thing in the world consume every single minute you have, then you are not going to turn that into your main job and will hate your whatever main job you have that brings only income and no fun for the rest of your life.

If you can't let your favourite thing in the world consume every single minute you have, then you are not going to turn that into your main job and will hate your whatever main job you have that brings only income and no fun for the rest of your life.
Well, its good to have a main job that perfectly fit your interest and goal. But for some, as long as its giving a passive income that lets your family survive, even if its not on your line or field, that does not matter at all. However, side job can be considered nowadays as main job as long as its giving the most of the income, and main job can be a side job too since its income is only additional or supplement the main income.

General opinion is that a side job is one that supports the main income of an individual, often times perceived as something that brings little money to add to what you make from your day job. If Mr X earns better from a side job when compared to the income from his career option, does the side job still qualify to be called a side job?

It could interchange but this would be on personal point of view, it doesnt matter which one would really give out big income neither the side or the main ones. The important thing is that you could able

to earn which would really be enough or sufficient for you to live since you could definitely support yourself and your own family which is the main priority that we do have in the first place.

About taking out yourself into other passion or things then it wouldnt matter the most as long you could able to make profits then preference would be just a second option.

Surviving do what matter most.!Whether you are dealing on something which isnt on your liking or you dont like the job but as long you could get some pay or salary then it would be that
beneficial and come to think that there are lots who had been struggling on finding a job even on the lowest paying ones just for them to sustain at least on their daily living.Just be grateful that you have one and having some other options or side income is just a bonus for you to extent out on what you are currently able to earn.

For me a side job will still I say a side job, although the income from a side job is greater than that of a main job. And I will never leave my main job
to focus on doing a side job. Because after all, usually the side jobs we do are more risky than main jobs. This means that side jobs are usually only
temporary or the income earned is unstable. While we usually do main job until retirement and old age, so main job is safer for the future because
we get a steady income.
Most people prefer a 9 to 5 job, and while those jobs can be good as they offer some additional perks like vacation time, medical insurance and adding money to your retirement account, at the same time the upside is limited to whatever your boss is willing to pay to you, while if you begin your own gig on the side as a form of side income then if you play your cards right you could gain way more money than what you do with your regular job.

probably no. And you should focus which way you can earn more and better to find new side job instead of wasting your time working hard in your main job even you don't have a good salary . And to be honest that's what's is happening since the pandemic wherein most people left their job they because they found a good way to make passive income while at home and that's through internet. for me that was a good decision..
It can be a case to case basis. What if that main job of yours is your dream job? Despite the pay is quite low and you have another side job, it's okay to call it a side job even it pays more.
There's no problem doing both jobs at the same time as you're not compromising any of them and you're earning more for having both of them. You don't have to find a new job if you're already having two jobs at the same time unless you can take three.

Some people are enjoying their main job because it is their passion. But if you think you are just wasting your time in your main job, then, probably it is better to find a good side job instead of stressing yourself with this main job. However, some people don't want to lose their main job because this is where they have healthcare benefits, retirement benefits and all the other benefits that you can't find in your side job. The salary may not be higher with your side job but the benefits accompanied with your main job is already a big plus to consider it keeping.

Trends are changing these days as companies are also loking for remote workers rather than the full time employees in the offices. This trend has raised specially in the covid era and is it still contiuning.
My opioion on side jobs is that you can do them if you have time but this should not effect your main core job which should be your primary focus. Also you can think of quiting your main core job and focus on the side job which should offer you more income. You wont leave the job if the new job offers less pay.

If I have spare time, skills and there is no illegal context behind a side job, the I see no reason not doing it. I havent seen a person in my life that will refuse get some extra money.

Earlier, I used to work on two parallel jobs. It wasnt hard, as they required a PC and internet. The trick was to figure out which work or task required immediate action, and which can be postponed for 20-30min. It as a 9 to 6 work and it was a mixture of bookkeeping and low level financial analysis tasks. I even managed to do freelance during working day and once in a month fill balance sheet and stuff like that for a small company. I would not say that swam in money, but I liked being that busy.

It is called a side job because of how people sees it or feels about it.  Have come across people who have two  professional jobs, like I don't think if one of the job will be refer as a side job because its not just jobs whereby money is been made but a professional job. For instance  we have medical doctors who practice and still lectures in medical schools as lecturers, this two job jobs are cool professional jobs so I don't think someone who is into jobs like this will refer one to be a side job.

A side job is still considered as a side job even if it is paying more than the day job.
A day job gives you a stable income on regular basis and that makes it more important than a side job as it is a more secure income.
A side job may not be relatively stable and requires less amount of time of work than the day job.

back to the initial understanding of the main and side jobs actually.
but a side job will also sometimes be the main job if the income generated from the side is greater than the main job
there are many examples actually, in this incident
but sometimes the main job is only as status if he has a job and is busy as an employee and prestige
