I think the liking a post has already been implemented with the merit system?

There's a lot of topics on smerit that could probably all be made into one sentence with the different ideas but I don't think decaying smerit is going to help with anything - and if Theymos wanted to, they could increase the merits being sent to sources or recruit more sources.

Quite a lot of users overlook the search button, if it definitely wasn't useful, then it wouldn't have been there in the first place, if forum users use the search button more frequently, then many threads will not be repeated.

Good topic, but i do not know if it will be useful in the long run when this thread leaves the first 3 or so pages, users would still repeat such threads again, so what is most important is that users should make use of the search button first before starting a thread, only then will they find already existing threads on the topics/suggestion they want to make, and compilations of already existing threads like the OP.

I think you have missed one of the most frequent requests - Bitcointalk app for phone. It's been asked for so many times already.
Anyway, I think it's not likely that newbies (or not newbies) will stop repeatingold suggestions after seing this thread. If they don't use search before new thread, they won't notice this thread too.

Hmmm, very loosely you could probably argue that. I don't tend to think of the merit system as a ways of liking someones post though. Rather, using it as a way of rewarding effort, and good quality content. Though, usually that does mean you have to sort of like the post to an extent, I don't think that should be the primary focus.

Although, I'm probably against the idea of a liking system, think our modern world has more than enough of it with social media these days.

And as for the Like and Dislike buttons, it would cause a lot of problems if a post received a lot of likes but had no merits, and verse versa, a lot of trolls would abuse the Like/dislike button.

As for the decay of smerits, I don't see it happening; it's been discussed a thousand times for no good reason.

Can we have merits reconsideration on banned accounts? Allowing merits to be returned to their source after an account has been banned? This is one of the changes I'd like to see on the new forum.

I think there’s a ongoing project to integrate a new software to the forum. There’s a child board in meta for suggestions for the new software; New forum software
I think Theymos is adding the suggestions on meta to the new software maybe that’s why he doesn’t bother about making changes to this one. 
I researched about some users who had donators on their profile. Old members know the history. I’m curious if there is actually going to be a new forum

Not just a plan, the project was already set in motion, the name of the new forum was decided and funds allocated to it about 11 years ago, when theymos created a thread looking for a software developer .

The beta for the new forum software was actually launched for testing.

The project is long overdue and there is some uncertainty about when it would be ready.

What will happen to this forum we are using and its features. Will it be the changing of everything in the forum or will it be an update to the existing features in the forum or is it going to be only domain name change. But I like this forum as I have seen it. Although I have not been in other big forums I don't know how they look like. But I like this forum and the way it is designed to easily find any board you wish.

The data on the forum would be migrated to the new software.
And most of the forum features and layout would be the same, but where would be some major updates to it.

OP, I've been around long enough to tell you that the number of threads you summarized and linked to would, if graphed on a pie chart as a fraction of the total number of suggestion threads, look like a sillhouette of Pac-Man with his mouth completely shut.  But I applaud your effort, because I'm sure it took a lot of time and effort to dig all of those up.

And maaan, you missed my three suggestion threads.  I don't tend to start a lot of new threads in general, so when I create one that requests some new feature or some sort of change in whatever, you know I have strong feelings about the issue in question.  Among the bugaboos that have hit my berzerk button have been "list" threads, PMs from Copper Member newbies, and members consistently posting enormous images in their posts that add no value to what the topic is.

I love the thread about ending the merit system--it really takes me back down memory lane, because I remember how frustrated a lot of members were when they suddenly couldn't rank up nearly as quickly as they were accustomed to.  Those were fun, lively times.

Oh I see my name there too. My suggestion got partly fixed by BPIP team and now my More menu looks like this:



The down side is that you need to have the browser add-on installed to get this and other benefits so it won't work for the newbies, as I initially thought.
BTW it will be nice if I can add/remove links to that menu manually in BPIP. Just an idea

I don't think it's needed. If something like that was to be applied, it should only happen to merits given to users who got nuked. Nuked means 0 posts, hence there is nothing to merit. But if someone were to be banned and their post history is still publicly available, their merits shouldn't be removed. The fact they got banned, doesn't mean they didn't have quality and merit-worthy posts at some point in time. It's the same thing with scammers and other jerkoffs. They could have been quality members with good forum contributions who one day turned bad and got banned for whatever reason. But their merit-worthy posts are still there.

You have done a great job SatoPrincess, It's good to see that suggestions are assembled in a single thread but I think there are even more in New Forum software that are yet to be implemented and many abandoned, I have some good suggestions to share but seeing how the development slowed is killing the morals.
My first post on that list was created on 2022 and not 2017, please check again.

Thank you for your suggestion, that’s a good idea. I think I will do that once the thread becomes bigger. For now, I have updated the OP. For those who are curious as to how many of these suggestions Theymos consider worth looking into, obviously not a lot.

Nice to see this thread bumped. Although it's an old thread but this is my first time of seeing it. I have read a thread where someone was proposing to compile a list such as this. I trust the person has seen this to avoid duplicate threads.

Op, can you make a provision to check implemented suggestions? Like 2fa authentication, Op on topic starters have been implemented. This could make theymos see here as a place to come whenever he wants to implement a new thing.

The last table displays just that. I use “N/A” to represent suggestions that are yet to be implemented and “Added” for vice versa. And today, Theymos just added this patch by PowerGlove. I believe this is the sixth patch from PowerGlove that Theymos has added to the forum.

Probably what the OP wants is something that's not akin to that, kind of sort like the views in a thread of thing where it doesn't really matter if you look at it, it's that it was liked because they found it to be a cool thing but definitely one can argue that merits are just like that but merits after all affect your account to some way, you can like a post but never really like it so much right?

I really want the suggestions about the deletions of the board where there's close to zero activity, it's going to be a good thing because it would save some space for the website and you can basically chuck all of the threads there into archive.
