You're absolutely right about your argument, merger was ethereum's biggest driver this year, arguably the biggest hope for ETH to break out this year, but it's disappointing that it didn't happen. The market is still falling and there is no sign of going up and the market will receive a new rate hike from the Fed soon, everything will continue to go down.

I expected the market to rally after the ETH event and then it would go down when the Fed raised rates but things didn't go as expected. We're almost to the end of the year, I suspect by the end of this year ETH will hit $4k, I guess ETH will have a hard time surpassing $2k this year, the $4k dream is far away.

ETH didn't experience that much of a pump in price, simply because the FED's actions (raising interest rates) are making the whole crypto market bearish. Unless the US Dollar is weakened and the global economy is restored, neither ETH nor BTC will be able to obtain a new All-time-high in price. We should take advantage of this opportunity to buy as much cheap ETH as possible before the "big bounce". While I don't think ETH will reach $4k by the end of 2022, it could reach more than that by the next bull market. I believe BTC's upcoming block reward halving might have a positive effect over crypto market prices. No one knows what will happen in the future, so we can only hope for the best. Just my thoughts

Yes, it is difficult to expect the price to rise to $4,000. This year will end in less than 4 months, it is a too short time to have a significant change from $1,450 to $4,000. Currently it's $1.347 in 24h based on Coinmarketcap chart. Some traders are expecting the bearish trend will be last for 1 year that means if we already in the bearish market since last year and it will be going on until the end of year before it will be increasing again. I don't even think crypto will be rising until the end of this year. The bearish market may be ended next year. Any coin will not be pumped until the next year. The bottom will be last until the end of this year. I saw so many prediction but it seems like this is the most sense prediction. Ethereum could possibly reach $4000 but the hardest question is when? As for me, 2022 is still an early phase for it to happen. We're still in the midst of the recession period and the global crisis is still getting worse so that means that it will still be hard for the market to recover. I believe that the market still needs to go back to normal and reach the bull run before such a thing happens.

The global recession is only going to tank ETH's market prices due to low demand and central banks' policies to tackle inflation. Unless the economy is restored, don't expect ETH to reach $4k anytime soon. The same can be said about Bitcoin and other alternative cryptocurrencies being traded on the market today. Fret not, as crypto (especially Bitcoin and Ethereum) is the future of money. Sooner or later, ETH will bounce back to $4k leaving early holders with plenty of cash in the process. You are too confident if you assume ETH price will jump to $4,000 before 2022 ends. We are already in September, it is not so far from the end of 2022. Unlikely and we're already in a short period. The merge was expected to push the price of Ethereum a lot and it didn't do nothing actually.
The trend could be one of the big factors why we're not seeing it move a lot during the merge. Bitcoin still the king and it's the one that's not moving a lot lately and in the end, ETH stayed somewhere $1200-$1300 even the merge was successful.

well, it looks like the ethereum retainer needs to be patient again. however, the $4k price target is still pretty far at the moment, and we're almost in Q4 of the year. the chance to see ethereum price hit $4k is slimming down. in fact, after this I'm pretty sure that the ethereum price boost could occur when the bitcoin price also recovers. it's just that the price increase is still possible for now, even if it doesn't reach the $4k price, but at least the recovery still has the potential to happen later this year.

Only dumb people who keep believing ethereum will achieve such rate. Those who believe it must have pumped the price of bitcoin to go to the 50k again to make it happen. That will make ethereum can achieve such rate easily without any doubt. Currently there is a bear market going on, it seems unlikely that Ethereum price will ever reach $4,000 and I don't know how long it will take for a bear market to go away and turn into a Bull Market. However, if the market situation starts to improve there is a possibility that the price of Ethereum could reach $4,000 or even more, due to the successful merger of Ethereum back then and of course there will be a lot of market demand to buy and hold it in the future.

I don't think so. 2022 was so bad year for financial markets. I don't think anything will change in next 3 months. My expectation is to see some minor bull run in cryptomarkets that will make Ethereum jump a bit, like 2x maybe. But nothing more than that. 2023's last 4-5 months will be better for cryptomarkets in my opinion. There will be halving incoming, we are getting close. FED may decrease rates as well.
