I imagine this would be a requirement of the job itself. Appearance is an essential element in everything related to human communication. If you work in the field of sports, it is better to be an athlete in order to be more convincing to the group.
If we take into account the relative specificity of the concept of beauty, then the appropriate appearance must be present in every place. However, bearing in mind that the construction worker will have a decent appearance with clothes that confirm his profession better than a uniform that imparts a mysterious symbolism.
There are many academic investigations that study the influence of appearance in business. Almost all of them emphasize its importance.

If ethical issues are concerned, ofcourse. It is a sense of professionalism. To some, appearance has something to do with performance but it would really emphasize work ethics or even boost employee's sense of workload and task related concerns.But I disagree with discrimination concerning employee's uniform. At the same time, indeed it would boost one's confidence to perform his/her job. If it is employment which is concerned, it would be a plus ofcourse to recruitment team because putting effort with your attire means devotion with one's work and goal, so it would really play a huge role with employee's character.

In my location you must wear a suit, a shirt tucked in good pants with a tie, or a well-tailored native attire, to prove that you are ready for business or employment. But over the years I have learned that appearance can be deceptive, this has made me treat people or business prospects by their behavior, ability, and productivity and not by appearance.

It depends on the kind of industry you are in, there are jobs in which your image is indispensable, obviously you still need the skills necessary to get the job done, but if someone got the skills plus the appearance and you only have the skills then you are not getting the job over them, however there are many other industries in which as long as you have the skills the way you are dressed does not matter at all, this is especially true now when it comes to the jobs which can be done remotely.

Good appearance should always in complement with good character. That way, you will always be a role model to the rest of your co-workers. Of course, skills are included in it that makes you more a total package. However, for some jobs that don’t require dress code, as long as you have the skills and the character that will be your asset, I think you will always be accepted and acknowledged.

What affects our life most is trend. When something becomes a trend and everyone is involved in doing it, no one would bother to ask the reason why it is done so. For instance, Christianity goes to church on Sunday and I can say that more than 80% of Christians don't know the reason they go to church on Sunday but due to it is a norm that has been before they were born they took up from there.

I truly doubt that anyone I had got the guts to appear in an interview without dressing official. Meanwhile the company did not specify their type of dress but due to the fact that everyone has been in suits and locking themselves in ties,it becomes the trend and anyone doing something other than that would be regarded as the full.

In my location, most Ponzi scheme operators always dress corporately at all times, just to give the people the feeling that their funds are in the custody of responsible persons.

3. Limited time: Thinking of what to wear can be time and strength-consuming. Most people that are too busy with work or other engagements might not give adequate attention to what they wear. As long as the clothing is clean and good to wear, they are okay with them.

4. Weather condition: It is very important to wear clothing that suits the atmospheric condition at a particular time, but most people especially in Africa don't understand this fact. I have been forced to wear a three-piece suit under the hottest sun I have ever experienced because my organization wants me to look presentable and corporate. I was sweating like a Xmas goat and all my clothes got soaked. But a T-shirt. a pair of jeans and a simple shoe would have given me the smartest look at that time.

5. More attention to the inside: Some perceived poor dressers feel that the mental and emotional well-being of an individual supersedes the physical looks. They believe that virtues like creativity, interpersonal skills, selflessness, contentment, etc are far better than appearance.

6. Poverty: indeed, looking good or corporate might not be very expensive but the truth is that some persons cannot afford them. Some individuals cannot provide a meal for themselves because of poverty. It would be unfair to look down on such persons maybe during interviews or business proposal meetings because they are not well dressed. He might be the most qualified.    

It is good to look nice and attractive but looking down on people that you feel are not well dressed might not be the best option.  

It can be highly dependent on your skillset these days, if you are a low level worker doing an easily replaceable job then it is likely that you will have little leeway in what you can wear. Sometimes your uniform is given to you if you're a front-of-house service type worker or maybe you get to choose some plain clothes if you are working in a factory or warehouse. Office jobs do tend to offer more potential and the more unique your position, the better chance you have of getting away with choosing your own outfit, but it is still a great idea to keep it professional because you never know who you will meet at work. It can always open doors and even impress senior executives.

Depending on the type of job, the importance of the dress will be determined. Some jobs related to marketing and management require a certain style of clothing that is different from the rest of the jobs. Therefore, the examples you set may not be accurate for all cases.

I didn't fully understand what you mean in certain point of your explanation, but from the scenario, for the aspect of dress in work, i believe that in some point dress doesn't be regarded as anything in some jobs, i believe that any management have their discipline to certain extent and the criteria we be as results of they rules and regulations, which if you have not ascertain it depending their wish they will not absorb you as their applicants, I'm reacting over this depending your opinion.

It is true, if you find for a job you have to be neat and presentable. I've remembered a video that I've watched from some Canada that he's trying to help those less fortunate people and the ones who are living on the streets.

There's one guy that he has talked about although I'm looking at that guy as sort of cool guy with his outfit. When he's been interviewed, he mentioned that he can't take interviews with what he's wearing from.

Well, indeed an appearance can even have an impact on effectiveness in several types of work such as sales, shop assistants, bank employees, hotel employees, luxury restaurant employees. It all depends on the job. Some jobs will require us to acquire pleasing personalities because being presentable is necessary for the company to attract more clients in customers. Some jobs will look after your skills and ability over your appearance. Those jobs won't require you to wear formal attire just to look pleasing since you won't have to appear physically in front of your clients. Most of these jobs are those who are working in back offices and doing freelancing.

Appearance makes a huge difference in any business environment where you meet face to face with clients or your boss. I worked in finance and real estate and noticed that people dress differently there. Anything related to finance always meant to wear a black or dark blue suit with a tie. Everybody was looking similar and nobody would have thought to not come dressed up, you would stand out in a bad way. In real estate everything was much more relaxed and casual, only for meetings with the lawyers people would dress up. In my opinion it makes you seem more professional and we should use good clothes for our advantage. Even now where so many meetings are done with zoom I think it's good to wear a white or light blue shirt. This feeling often comes to me when I see very elegant people in elegant and attractive clothes, I feel that they wear this dress to hide their false and deceptive reality. Of course, not all elegant people are necessarily deceptive, but most fraudsters care about their external appearance.

Adding up to what I previously mentioned in here and speaking of scammers, there are those scammers that even own plenty of buildings around their vicinity. If you watch scam busters like Jim Browning, you will find out that those scums looked really rich in their business attire.

If there was no such norms in the professional industry, then there would not be such thing as judging people by their attire and all those stuffs about being professional.

It will all depends on the company on what type of uniform are you allowed to use. I believe that most of the companies now especially on the corporate side doesn't require their employees anymore to have their uniform worn, Casual is ok as long as it's presentable. Appearances do matter on other type of work just like @dothebeats said, If it's a client-facing role it is important to dress up according to the type of meeting or transaction. If we are applying to work, being presentable is always a plus point to the hiring officer. We don't want to be judge on how presentable we are during an interview knowing that there are some hiring officers who are fond of first impressions.

Yes, I consider appearance to be important. Psychologically, when you dress well other people automatically perceive you as more successful, trustworthy, more sociable, more competent, and happy. In fact, just by dressing well, you can get your foot in the door of any organization because you would have made a good first impression.
