Not all chickens are designed for farming or poultry raising. Those fighting chickens do have a breed and can't be compared to the capability of those in the poultry. In other words, these fighting chickens are useless when raised as poultry for food or egg production purposes, and as a result, they are used in cockfighting.

People should just accept that these games will continue to exist especially in those countries that allow the operation of this.

As long as the operations are running legally, that's fine. Hunt down those running illegally as they are not contributing to the revenue of the country.

I don't see anything wrong with o48o's opinion as I think it is actually right. I also live in a country where cock fighting is too common, and a lot of people are involved on it however not because it's somehow a culture that goes way back and doesn't justify that it should be legal to make animals fight to the death. I know that we kill these chickens for our own consumption, but it should be done without unnecessary violence and cruelty.

I also, remember how Dog fights were common in a lot of countries including mine where there are even instances that dogs are used for our own consumption as well but right now, it is now illegal.

What I want to add in this aspect is that a norms or a culture that is been established buy a particular tribe or a particular country it will be very difficult before someone can abolish it, I am saying this due to her reaction over this cook fight we are emphasising on, so I believe that you should have your own norms and any country that have eight months like to follow it with a precaution that no one can change or alternate it.

I am against harming animals. But at the same time, I find a lot of hypocrisy in what these people (animal rights activists) say. They have no problem against large scale corporate agrobusinesses, where poultry and cattle are treated with utmost cruelty. And they always attack poor tribal or rural people who perform activities such as cock fight as a part of their culture. And although such activities cause the death of animals or birds, it also preserves rare breeds and species. Activists always try to paint a one-sided picture, which is far from reality.

We are thankful for these kinds of people who are making some changes and sacrificing their time and money to pursue these goals because if no one will ever step forward to do an action, they will forever mistreat animals as if nothing like a tool. PETA for example is one of the known organizations to help abused animals and other non-profit organizations as well.  But the problem for the others are they went way out of topic when they even push not to eat animals just because they cannot consume due to their lack of understanding, now they want people to follow them also which is not right because some of these livestock animals are meant to be eaten as well for us to consume.

Maybe we all have to be aware and have to distinguish between tradition and culture, some adherents believe that cockfighting or similar animals are indeed considered as heirs of ancestors that must be fostered so that they are sustainable from generation to generation.

But as time goes by and technology has developed in remote villages many traditions and cultures have been eliminated such as hurting animals, they understand that this tradition is torturing animals.

And this has led to extinction of several local breeds. But such poultry breeds are not suitable for cock fight. And for this purpose, the players preserve local sub-species. Without activities such as cock fighting, several local breeds would be extinct by now. Activists always look at one side of the picture. They fail to notice the benefits that indigenous activities such as cock fighting bring.

How can you make the distinction? You may having the opinion that killing these animals for food is OK. But someone else maybe against that idea. It would have been somewhat more acceptable if it had been organized by ferocious animals instead of cockfighting. But the animals by which they are organized are called domestic animals. As a result, if you gamble by harming those animals, there should be more pain than pleasure. Although those who have already involved themselves in such activities may have rejected the affection and love they have for the animals. Moreover, Animal Resources Department will never condone such activities.
