My experience with using Utopia wallet

Look, please note that first of all it's an ECOSYSTEM, not just a wallet. It's important as you've researched only one side of the complex product.

Sorry, I do experience the ecosystem as I browse the marketplace and other functionality aside from wallet. I'm just used to call the app as a wallet. I will try to add further review.

Got the 5 CRP (thanks) and tested the Utopia client.  

• When installing, I cannot select a different drive for the installation in the menu. I have to enter this manually. It works, but I was a bit irritated that I couldn't do it with a click.
• I use the Utopia client in german and I have to say that the translation is very good.
• When you open it for the first time, the wallet looks very clear, but at first you are a bit overwhelmed by all the possibilities that this client (wallet) offers.
• Downloading the blockchain was very quick. Apparently I was already in sync after about 15 minutes.
• In itself, the scope of the ecosystem is very impressive. There's email, gaming, file sharing, a browser, messenger and even voice messenger and more. In itself it really offers everything you need.
• First I looked at the channels and found a channel with free uVouchers. I think that's very good. So you are not required to buy CRP first to test the functions.
• After that I wanted to learn more about the functions of the client and opened the "Official How-To". Unfortunately, this is not available in german. Although I use the client in german, the how-to is in english. This should perhaps be revised in the future. Either way, a lot is explained there and you can find answers to many questions.
• On uWallet, I saw that the client supports CRP and UUSD, Utopia's stablecoin.
• I created three uVouchers with 0.125 CRP each and are giving away two here:

Suggestions:

• I particularly like the option to play poker. It's just a pity that there are no free rolls offered where you can also win CRP and where everyone can participate. This would create an additional incentive to use the poker feature.
• You could offer a slot machine where you play for CRP. This could perhaps in turn appeal to new users, especially those from the gambling sector.
• The mining bot should perhaps also be offered for other operating systems. Not everyone uses Linux.
• Under "uWallet/Mining" and under "Fiskusdaten/Liefern" there are text passages that are unfortunately not translated. This should be improved.

My conclusion:
I have never seen such a comprehensive wallet client. There are (almost) no wishes left unfulfilled and the client is really well made. Since everything is anonymous, I'm surprised that Utopia hasn't really been known yet. I've read something about Utopia here in the forum and informed myself, but otherwise I hardly hear the name. Also, I haven't heard from many people using Utopia yet. Actually it's a pity, because Utopia really offers a complete ecosystem, which is still completely missing in many other projects. Utopia definitely still has some work to do on its notoriety, but once that's done the project could potentially make it big. So I can only give my recommendation. If you are looking for a complete solution, you will definitely find it here.

Side note:
Utopia's website looks ok but could do with being a bit more professional and friendly in my opinion.

I gave Utopia a go on two different occasions since signing up for the review. The anonymous registration process was a breeze, as was sign in process with the crypton exchange. I was able to sync the client quickly, I can't remember for sure as I struggled to find where the syncing status was actually displayed (due to my own short-sightedness) however once I did find it, (thanks to the help of those in the Utopia chat lobby) I saw that I was already synced (less than 30 minutes!).

One thing I had noticed though is that even after being fully synced, a lot of data was still being transmitted by the Utopia client. Even with the Network settings dialed to turn route network packets, reply to peer information requests, upnp and push notifications off, Utopia still manages to consume a lot of bandwidth/data. I took to the channels to learn more...what exactly is being transmitted was said to be blocks/syncing however syncing was not near the same pace as these transmissions...others said that it was packet routing, however I do not see how that is possible since the setting is off. Unless this setting being off makes no difference. So for bandwidth-conscious desktop users, Utopia is not recommended for that reason. For users who want more information about data transmission, it would be great if more logs/details were show about what is being transmitted and the amount of data involved with the transmissions for peace of mind. Also, you can't scroll through logs without it jumping to the top (making it impossible to inspect) which is quite annoying. This is my only annoyance on the network level.

Otherwise, the experience of actually using Utopia from a latency perspective is fantastic. This is where I concluded the bandwidth was being consumed...encrypted IRC-like chat capability, mail and wallet all functioning in one place with near zero latency. I was able to send my CRP instantly, I was able to chat with other users instantly, I received mail instantly. There was nothing that I did on Utopia that had any form of delay related to the network. This is very commendable for such a feature-rich blockchain-based app.

With my 5 CRP I decided to make an exchange using Crypton. I would love to have given Poker a try, though no tables seemed to be open. In the future I might play around with the uNS system, though I was not able to with the testing CRP (costs 10 CRP to register a UNS). As mentioned earlier, signing in with Crypton was very easy. I used my pubkey and a new password and it took less than a minute to register. I got my code in Utopia mail instantly after pressing "send authorization" and I was on my way to using Crypton. Sending from Utopia to Crypton was a seamless process. Copy address, paste, enter amount, send. It took less than 2 minutes for it to hit the Crypton exchange. I executed a trade, I withdrew, all within an extra couple of minutes. Flawless, amazing. The harmony between Crypton and Utopia was evident from first usage.

Overall, the Utopia ecosystem is not only serving a very noble purpose but it is doing so in an efficient way. Private email and instant messaging are important in today's day and age, and integrating it with a liquid blockchain and cryptocurrency only empowers the individual further in a day where it is needed most. I look forward to seeing the ecosystem continue to develop and can not wait to see new features that are introduced in the future

My experience and thoughts about Utopia Ecosystem

Website
Utopia website is not bad. A bit Matrix-like as fonts and color scheme, but it’s OK. The URL is short, which is nice, but a bit too short, one can easily forget it.

The currencies page contains a fair number of exchanges, but sadly for an anonymous coin,  all seem to need registration (including Crypton Exchange which I expected it’s somehow Utopia’s exchange).

The merchants area is somewhat crowded, which is great, just may need arranging better those entries.  I mean that it’s impressive to see such a number of merchants, but since their number should grow, it will become even more crowded – from categories to merchant descriptions. The categories always take that vast space and… I would not expect people go page by page, maybe it won’t hurt to implemet it maybe like Twitter does and/or give detailed information only where needed.

For downloading the app all major OS are covered. If I insist to be picky I’d say that portable versions would be nice too. I’ve installed it to a Windows 10 system and to a Linux Mint. This will allow me play around a little more.

Utopia application
First contact
Shortly: both impressive and overwhelming

The welcome screen is a mix of welcome information and initial setup, it can be confusing. Actually the whole application, while it’s impressively big and covering a lot of areas, it can be overwelming for newcomers. I recommend considering 2 modes – simple and advanced mode – with the simple mode showing much less menu entries, tabs and parts/information. I’ve worked with 1000s of programs, still Utopia was for me both impressing and crowded/overwelming at the first contact. Because of this the ideas I’ll write down may also not be greatly structured.

Data Traffic
While running Utopia app, even if I’m completely synchronized, there’s constant data traffic. Even more, if I want to switch to low traffic mode, the dialog tells my anonymity level will decrease (plus, in the way it’s written, a newbie will be scared of doing that if he will ever find out the setting). So one question is: now, with Utopia being rather young, I see a constant 300-500 KB/s, will this increase significantly if Utopia will have 1000s of more nodes, or will at least remain in this kind of limits?
I’ve given a chance to low traffic mode too for a while and the traffic was much nicer. And the (chat) messages were still realyed instantly.

Start with Windows
It’s nice to have Utopia starting with the computer since it always has to sync data, get messages and mails and so on, but … I’m not sure what is the point of the “remember me” check is it asks me for password on each startup. Or is it a bug? Even more, if one is not logged into (auto-started) Utopia all day, at the end the Windows shutdown will complain about it (because it doesn’t end gracefully).

Chat, messaging, games
I’ve made myself two accounts on two systems (the main on Win10 and then a secondary on Linux Mint). It’s interesting (in a good way) that friend requests must be accepted. However, there’s something that doesn’t make much sense, unless I’m missing something: chat and mail seem to work on the same principle (only to accepted friends), .. so why does Utopia have both?! Is it just for user preference (mails can become more organized)? I find this redundant.

In the chat it may be useful to add an extra space at the end of smilies to avoid the situation the second simile looks broken.

I’ve played Chess (with myself). Nice feature to add the game! One thing I’ve noticed was that at least once a move (fully done) was not shown on the opponent’s screen until he tried to make himself the new move. I guess it’s a small glitch, still, it worth telling.

uWallet
The money operations were fast and straightforward to make. I really liked this wallet.

uWallet : uWallet
I find it somewhat redundant to have two columns for pretty much the same job, but that’s me (in some cases the second column does actually have a good use). At least then the coin of choice could span on top of both. But, again, maybe it’s only me.

It’s nice to be able to send transactions directly to friends by selecting them by name. This is a great newbie-friendly feature!
I’ve seen that I cannot send for example .5 CRP, I must enter 0.5; not a real problem, but it can be improved.
If you want to make it even more newbie friendly you may want to add a bit more info about the network fee at transactions, so they don’t get scared by “The payment amount exceeds your balance” red message.

The transactions went out fast and I was able to send back also instantly (are there no confirmations?!). It worth mentioning that they went out instantly even on Low Traffic Mode.

uWallet : Crypto Card
Since I had only 5 CRP at all I didn’t play with the Crypto Card feature, since it would cost 3 CRP and I would have been using it maybe twice.

By my understanding it’s sort of virtual card equivalent on the Utopia network, working with CRP, but hiding your real address. Interesting!

Request cryptons
This was the reason I wanted to make the Crypto Card for: it seems that I can make a bill and request CRP only from a card (why that? It should not matter what is the bill paid with..).

I’ve found something else of interest here. “View exchanges list” sends us (in a new clearnet browser) to the uTalk forum and not the Exchanges on the main website. Is it intentional? I don’t know.

uWallet : Network fee
I’ve found it buried under “Treasury data”
The fees are tiny, especially since CRP is also small value for now.

uWallet : Swap and uVoucher
Interestingly some of the swaps were slower (maybe 1 minute), although the price was worse than what I’ve seen at exchanges. I’ve got spoiled with too many instant things. It’s OK, it’s not actually slow.

I’ve made UUSD uVoucher. It was 100% straightforward to create it. Also 100% straightforward to activate it.

uWallet : Shop
This opens the merchants page in default browser, on the clearnet. Is that OK? I guess it depends from person to person, but for a privacy oriented platform this may need a bit of improvement (at least asking/telling the user what’s going to happen).
I’ve already said my opinions on merchant pages, I’ll only add that I’ve found one (odin) with the preview image telling “Sorry, you have been blocked” and (expectedly) not working.

Buying goods/services with Utopia coins
I’ve chosen something cheap to buy in order to see how this works. The merchants page gave some quick instructions – basically to select Perfect Money. And yes, in a subsequent step, CRP and UUSD were available for payment.

When I’ve gave the OK, a countdown timer has started (from 15 minutes, I think), plenty of time to send the money.

Right after my CRP transaction was sent, the countdown timer stopped, telling “Status: Confirming”. That took a bit longer and my guess is that there the CRPs were converted to USD for the merchant. But it was smooth, it went on, the merchant was happy and sent me the e-mail with the service details I’ve bought.

Conclusions
Utopia ecosystem is impressively rich in features and works very good. Some small improvements could be needed here and there, but nothing really big.
It may worth telling those very concerned about their privacy that the system sometimes sends them onto clearnet browser.
The trick of going trough PerfectMoney ensures the ecosystem’s coins can be spent at a pretty impressive list of merchants.

My Honest Review
The process of getting into Utopia

I first downloaded the Mobile version and installed it but the features were not encouraging so I downloaded the Desktop version because base on data consumption of the Desktop, I downloaded the Desktop version of the software in the Android Phone which was very fast then transfer or send the raw file (the software) to the Desktop and installed it. After the installation in the desktop, I was asked to create account or Import my Utopia account and I clicked on the private key and imported the key which I had already generated in the mobile version. After importing the private key, I was asked to insert my username and I clicked next then it asked me to type my password and this dialog box appeared to synchronize the information and it takes about 10 to 15 minutes and finally the welcome page appeared.

The pros and Cons

Pros:
I really live the software and the platform, the app or the software is easy to install and the desktop version does not select windows from my observation.  The mobile version has or displayed different communication or chatting channels which is also in the desktop version. The desktop and the Mobile versions work on offline. You can navigate to any channels or links on within the platform or on the interface without network.

Cons:
The android version is poorly designed because there is nothing to do except the chatting channels. I clicked on Get Cypton and it links me to webpage which not suppose to be. Every lick should open within the interface.My ObservationThe current version of 1.2.202 should be upgraded to meet up the new internet speed of 4G or the 5G network for fast transactions and quick communication (respond).  And also if it is possible crypton should be swap to bitcoin as it is with USD for people to use Utopia the more for transactions, trading and investment.  If it is only crypton to crypton or crypeton to USD the traffic will not be much. Let it connect to bitcoin which is the universal asset for the teaming up youths in the world. The platform is somehow complicated because of the numerous features on the Desktop version though most of the features uses down drop hyperlink text. I also recommend a free game either dice or poker on the game feature for a leisure purpose. And that can keep users busy on the platform while waiting other activities. Most of the desktop vital features should be added to the mobile app.

Conclusion
uWallet: As it is said, get crypton is licked to another webpage which is not good base on data consumption and internet speed. Because if it opens with another page, the transaction might delay. Like send crypton is within the utopia software which makes things easy for transactions. I will want Utopia team to add more features on the Android version because Android phones are easy to move around.
