Despite getting 2goals in the game this is still a very boring game, maybe both teams fell they have nothing to play for and will just kick the ball around to rundown the clock otherwise boring boring game.. maybe the are intimidated by the height of the Aussie's ??

From the point we've gotten to, we still have so many good teams that are still up and running and the favourite has to be Spain. With a smooth record of not conceeding a goal and being really comfortable in all the matches they've played, getting a win against Portugal will indicate that they might become the champions by breaking a lot of record.

The so called "favorite" drew their first match in this edition against one of the weakest teams (Cape Verde). None of the so called strong teams are having smooth sailing so far. Germany and Netherlands are on their way back. So are Croatia and Algeria. BTW, in a few hours the match between Cape Verde and Argentina will start. Stake has given odds of 20.00 for Cape Verde. This is perhaps the most one-sided odds I have so far seen in this tournament. Anyone courageous enough to bet in favor of Cape Verde? Bet just $25 and if they win, you will get $500.

Spain are favorite on paper but right now, i do not see them as favorite if they play against a strong team they might be knocked out. France and Argentina are having smooth sailing in this world cup because they have not draw any of the games they played so far; France played 4 games and won them easily, Argentina played 3 games and won them easily. The bookies knows Cape Varde cannot win Argentina that is the reason they were bold  enough to give Cape Varde up to 20 odds just to lure gamblers to risk money on Cape Varde. Betting on Cape Varde is the same thing as pouring water on a basket and expect the basket to hold the water. Anyone that's courageous enough to bet in favor of Cape Varde is throwing his money away.

Portugal was lucky to win their match yesterday. Croatia played very well if not that they cancel some of their goals. They would’ve won the match.  Portugal need to step up if they want to win the World Cup this year because they are not performing as everyone was expecting them to perform when the World Cup started They have world class players, but they are not playing as word class players. They are playing as average players Portugal need to step up because their  win yesterday was just a lucky win.
Croatia did everything they could to make sure that they win the match they put on their best, and their best was not enough.

I agree with you because in the first half Portugal did a good job, but they failed to score any goals, but in the second half both teams were on the same level, but sometimes I have Croatia better, but sadly their chances were disallowed or they failed to keep things on level just because of this injury time goal from Ramos, giving the win to Portugal.

Croatia played impressively in this game but was still not able to have a good result, but now Portugal is having the toughest opponent of this event, Spain. This is going to be a game of the event as well because in case of a win for Portugal they can surely feel great and have a good chance of going into the final as well, but right now they need to have good improvement for this game against Spain.

Agreed, Portugal survived their last match due to technology and Croatia's goal was not counted in this match either but they played great and unfortunately they have to stop here in this World Cup competition. However, now Portugal is going to face their toughest opponent of the tournament, Spain.This is one of the most anticipated matches of the round of 16 of the World Cup, where the winner will advance to the quarter-finals. I think if Portugal wins this match then there will be no more obstacles for them to play in the final. But at the moment if they cannot perform according to the right plan against Spain then their defeat in this match is certain. However, this match could go to a tiebreaker, and I would like to bet on that.

I really think that Croatia were unlucky to lose the match yesterday,  they really played well and deserve to win. I also think that the last goal that was disallowed was a wrong call, because I think it's a clear goal.
Portugal on the other hand has not been impressive in the world cup, they have just been lucky to get to this stage. I really think they need to improve if they want to go far in this competition.

Portugal was just lucky and I hope for them to get some more luck because this performance of theirs will get them nothing much in the competition except for luck.  Croatia did not get enough luck on the other hand,  and it cost them their chance to go further in the competition. Anyways my hopes are that Portugal understand the lucky they had and utilise well this chance they were lucky to get.

With Portugal performances from the beginning of this tournament, honestly, it has not been what many were expecting. They are performing below many people expectations and just as you said, it seems that only luck will continue to help them progress, which is what many people hope for them.

In yesterday match, I was not really impressed by Portugal performance. With the kind of great players they have, I just wish the coach could still organize and motivate the Portugal team well so they can put in more effort and deliver the better performances many are expecting from them.However, if they continue with this form, only luck may help them win their next match again and advance to the next stage.

They are both playing with care to avoid any mistakes that will be used against them by their opponents to find the back of the net. The first to take the lead will win the game and advance to the round of 16.

I hope that it doesn't end up with an extra time of 30 minutes because both players will get exhausted and penalty is a game of luck. We have eight more minutes to the end of the second half excluding additional time.

African teams are just not trustworthy, yesterday Senegal had 2 goals advantage to win Belgium, but they ended up playing draw in the late minutes and finally lost the match at extra time. Today, Egypt had an early lead against Australia, but they couldn't add another goal till half time result and when they came back for second half their defender made a blunder that cost them an equalizer from Australia. Egypt is supposed to be among the African teams that will advance to the next stages, but their journey might end tonight because they are not really playing like people who are eager to play more matches. I'm really disappointed with the performance of African teams especially in this round of 32, only Morocco has been able to reach the round of 16. Anyways, if Australia wins Egypt that might be the end for African teams because Morocco cannot do it alone because even if they win Canada in the round of 16, they will face France in the quarter finals which we already know what the outcome will be.

When I thought Egypt would easily get to the round of 16 cause they've been pressing since the match began then next thing i saw when I came after to continue watching was 1-1. I just hope Egypt doesn't end up disappointing like others who scored first but couldn't properly defend the opponent from a comeback.
 Their performance is not bad, they've been the ones pressing more although the chances in the 2nd half reduced, it seems the Australian team got motivated by Hany's own goal and are doing everything possible to draw the match. I'm impressed with the Australian goalkeeper beach, he made good saves to stop the Egyptians from leading again.

The Egyptian national team is not as strong as it was a few years ago. The team has overrelied on a few key players like Mohammed Salah and others. And it is becoming obvious that these players cannot perform optimally as they used to. Australia shouldn't have been a tough side to handle for the Pharaohs of Egypt when they were in form. It is quite irritating to see the seven-time AFCON champions struggle in this game.

Now that the scoreline is has been level, it will be difficult for Egypt to win easily because Australia is back to the game. However, Egypt isn't happy with that own goal and they have been pressing Australia defense in order to score again and take the lead.

The match will go into extra time. And judging by how the game unfolded at the end of the second half, I feel like the 1-1 score might hold until the end of extra time as well. It’s possible the match will go to a penalty shootout. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of matches being decided by a penalty shootout. Very slow gameplay. If such gameplay had been in the group stage match, we would not have been so upset. In the knockout stage, we would definitely want to see good gameplay from both teams. A very boring match.

We saw a goal at the beginning of the first half and Australia scored a goal at the beginning of the second half to equalize the match. Apart from that, we did not see such a strong attack from either team. The match is in a draw after 90 minutes. If they play this slow in extra time, the match will probably end in a tiebreaker.

I don't just know what actually came over the coach, he saw that Manny of his players were all tired but he kept adamant of that, how can one be leading with two goals then all of a sudden concceded a goal, and instead to be fully cautious of the defense you take it as if it was nothing, like that game still annoys even till this very moment, like that game was the most embarrassing knock out game for this world cup, I'd trust Cape Verde with this Golden opportunity, like they will defend those goals with their life.

They were simply unlucky, and a moment of carelessness led to them conceding goals quickly, forcing Belgium to take the match to extra time. They weren't lucky in extra time either, and after being 2-0 up, they lost 3-2. It was a very sad and unforgettable match for them.

@Silence Scream, I don't agree about Senegal being unlucky in that game, yes it's obvious they were careless and felt comfortable with the 2 goals up lead but the aspect of stating that they were unlucky is quite a lame excuse for them. No unlucky team leads another with 2 goals up, it's rather they're having hard time on getting a goal or something but it's wasn't the case for Senegal. Their first mistake was letting the Belgium side score the first goal as that was what gave them the drive to progress for more goals therefore winning the game.

Spain played relaxed and truly executed their strategy, both defensively and offensively, They demonstrated how to play the ball well against Austria, without conceding a single goal, This was a crushing defeat for Austria. Never mind goals, there weren't even any chances to shoot at goalkeeper Simon, This time, Spain was truly tight.
In contrast, their opponent, Portugal, had to work very hard in this round to advance to the round of 16, The tight competition with Croatia was truly a very difficult task, I initially thought it would end in a draw, but fortunately, Goncalo Ramos was able to add a goal in the final minute.

Spain national football team played very well against Austria national football team because that team did brilliant effort in this match. Oyarzabal  was a person who did 2 goals in this match . If Portugal were good morning enough, they would have scored up to 2 goals in the first half against Croatia. Both teams were Just playing as if they playing friendly games. Croatia wasn't sharp, the only players I saw in that team was Kovacic and Perisic. Both of them were fantastic yesterday, If Portugal fans believe that this team can win the world cup am sorry to say this but you guys are dreaming. Vitinha and Bruno Fernandez were no where to be found, these two players are system players take them out of that system and watch them play rubbish. If Ronaldo didn't score that penalty it would have been one his greatest stinker ever. Now they meet Spain in the Round of 16, let's see how far they go in this competition.

If the Australians win, they'll be making history. Egypt has a very good strategy; the fact that they're going to extra time at this point means the Australians are very good. My friends were betting on Egypt because they had a very good player, Mohamed Salah, but he can't do much on his own. The Australians are very tall; they should take advantage of playing in the air, looking for goals that way.

Football comes with different things entirely, Ronaldo and Portugal have been very very lucky in this World Cup competition, and I don’t see anything that Christiano Ronaldo is playing at the World Cup, Croatia had an unlucky night, I was never in doubt of their performance but Portugal was more lucky in the game.

Next game is Spain vs Portugal it’s obviously a strong game, and we would see how it’s going to play in that game, and also see how Ronaldo is going to perform in games, Spain is stronger than Portugal, but Portugal is a very lucky team, so anything can happen, I can’t be totally sure about anything.

No matter how strong you’re as a team, you still need luck in football to get over the line especially in big games. I don’t understand what you mean by “don’t see anything that Christiano Ronaldo is playing at the World Cup”. Do goals mean nothing in football nowadays? Ronaldo haters just cannot accept reality.

When you look at the history between Spain and Portugal, it’s fair to say that Portugal are not favorites to win this match. Obviously it’s going to be a tight contest, and I hope Portugal beat the odds and win the match.
