It's way better if it's a longer format. The battle for the top spots will be more about skill than luck, the battle for the top goalscorer as well.
I personally feel that the current CL format is ideal for RTG - it works even better than the previous CL formats with 4 teams per groups.

If RTG becomes seasonal, we'll also have seeded teams, player valuations etc - plenty of stuff to play around with.

Not to mention, securing sponsorships is not that easy. There is no sponsor in the world that would pay for 50% of the CL season, even if we saw value in such a competition.

Totally agree with these extra points, I already said it does not make sense for 50% because already very few gameweeks it would be 8 only and too short if we did group phase alone.

This is really perfect for RTG, a round where everyone plays, playoffs to give 2nd chance to weaker teams, then the best in knockout format.

And yes about sponsor, we already see how tough to get sponsorship, cutting the format would not help I believe.

And yes Dinamo Zagreb manage to build a name around the top competition of europe, i know they never make so far since is nearby to impossible to beat the huge teams from big leagues, but aside of it they are always there. I still remember the Orsic goals against Totenham a few years ago. ( it was against Totenham? Im starting to doubt)

Unfortunately, current Dinamo is weaker than in previous years as board is trying to keep the budget under the control so we depend less on qualifying in Champions League. Main goal is EL, and CL is only a welcomed bonus. We should (finally) get a modern stadium in 5-6 years and that might give us much needed boost. 

As I'm from Croatia, I went with Dinamo to qualify and missed. I knew I should have listen to logic instead of my heart. cryptofrka probably listened to logic and got that point.

In my early BSFL seasons I was making that mistake when it comes to Dinamo/Croatia, but I learned my lesson. Still won't bet against them though, that just doesn't feel right no matter what.

Just check the spreadsheet; it's looking not good for the team. They are barely able to survive in this season and need to do enough in the coming season for having better results. Good thing they still have a chance because I was expecting elimination, but things are going favorably.

Yeah, I have no idea what the big deal is with artificial grass, but teams that are not used to it usually have problems. I knew that they will.play on an artificial grass and that's where the logic said "go with Viking". But I still went with Dinamo even though I knew that there is a small chance on them to qualify. If they couldn't beat Viking at home, beating them away is even harder. Even if it weren't for the penalty, I still think that they would have lost the game.

I did ok on Croatian clubs since I kept it both to score only and they all delivered. Was most afraid for Rijeka while Hajduk and Dinamo were quite certain for me.

Looking forward to the new season, ending of last one wasn't good enough for my board of directors and they expect improvements.

Season 8 it cost me promotion and season 9 I finished 6th with 2 penalties for not submitting so I guess that could have stopped a promotion shot too.

That promotion match for Div 1 is going to be a sweat in the penalties, as things ended 3-3 in regulation time after Atletico Madrid got the win.

I wouldn't say that chances for Dinamo to qualify for CL were small even after the first game, its just that putting money on them (or in this case chosing them) was not the optimal choice.

With a little bit more composure and luck Dinamo could have finished the job in the first game (game would imo end much different if Zajc didn't hit the bar at 2:0) and even in 2nd game they weren't without their chances and it could very well end up different. Biggest downside of not qualifying for CL is that Dinamo will most likely have to sell someone by the end of transfer window.

Is this because of financial problems like Barca always having to sell sell sell at one point? Or is it just because to keep the good players they need to have CL to keep them interested?

Dinamo doesn't have financial problems, but like almost all other clubs of its rank, it has to sell players in order to cover the budget, and also we don't have any big stars in the team at the moment who have, let's say "ooutgrown" the club and want to leave.

That's just reality when you are not owned by a billionaire and instead you are mid range club from a small country, controlled by its fans (somewhat similar to Spanish socios model). Previous management wasn't as responsible and they took many risks, but new one wants to play it safe in order not to endanger the club in the long run.

I really can't imagine a manager who has to constantly wonder if his team is the same every season!!

That's like 99.99% of the football managers.
