It's OK. Philippines women's team was formed only a few years ago, while Thailand women have 2-3 decades of experience playing at the top-level (they have even participated in the ICC Women's World Cup). Although Philippines performed poorly in T20 format, they have progressed to the finals in T10 format (defeated Cambodia by 7 wickets in group stage) and are assured of either gold or the silver medal. Let's look at the positives. Women's tournament was competed almost entirely by native players (unlike the men's version, where Philippines, Cambodia and Singapore squads were mostly comprised of foreigners).

Bangladesh Women's team and Sri Lanka Women's first T20 match is being played today in Colombo, till the last update Sri Lanka batted first and collected 145 runs for the loss of six wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. Today there are quite a few matches in the 2023 Southeast Asian Games (Women's variety). The 6s tournament will get completed today, and a total of 5 teams are taking part - Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore, Philippines and Cambodia. Yesterday there were two matches - T20 match between Myanmar and Thailand, and the ODI match between Cambodia and Indonesia. Both of them were one-sided. Myanmar women made 37/9 from 20 overs, and Thailand won by 10 wickets in just 5.1 overs. Cambodia could only make 14 runs in their ODI match, and Indonesia won by 10 wickets in just 1.4 overs.

Well.... this match happened two weeks ago. And it doesn't surprise me. Thailand is one of the oldest cricket playing countries in Southeast Asia, and they became an affiliate member of the ICC back in 1995. Philippines on the other hand started participating in international cricket very recently. Anyway, to their credit both these teams had 100% native squads. That matters. If they had included a few foreigners in their squad, then they would have performed better. But the focus was on long term growth, and therefore the squad was comprised of only native players.

BTW, Philippines women have qualified for the gold medal match in T10 format. Either gold or silver medal is guaranteed.

However, in the match, Sri Lanka women's team performed very well in batting and bowling, they got a great victory in the match. Sri Lankan batsman Chamari Athapaththu has shown a great game with good batting performance. However, if the Bangladesh women's team had a good bowling performance in the match, there was a possibility of keeping the match even. But Bangladesh women played badly enough today that Sri Lanka women won by 7 wickets.

T20I series is currently tied at 1-1, as Sri Lanka scored a big win today. These two teams are not among the top sides in women's cricket. They hardly take part in 2-3 series every year.

Myanmar women have already won one medal (bronze at cricket 6s). I could see a lot of improvement in their performance. And the best thing is that they don't have any foreigners in their playing XI, and the entire squad is being made up of natives.

Long time back, in 2006 Myanmar (men's team) was humiliated when they were bowled out for just 10 runs during the ACC Trophy. Nepal chased down the target in just 0.2 overs (aided by 5 wides bowled by the Myanmar opening bowler). Back then a lot of people ridiculed and made fun of Myanmar. The same Myanmar has won a medal in cricket now, and that too without any real support from the ICC or the ACC.

We need more sporting organisations authorise and give opportunity for the women's cricket, because the popularity of men cricket is far high compared to the women's cricket. In recent years there is good progress, and the same need to continue.

Inclusion of cricket in multi-sport disciplines always help smaller nations. Right now, cricket has been included in competitions such as Southeast Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Pacific Games and Asian Games. And there are talks ongoing to get cricket included in the Summer Olympics. The last one is very crucial. If cricket gets included as an Olympic sport, then a lot of the associate nations will benefit from increased governmental funding. However, the ICC has taken a very hostile approach till now, discouraging any such attempts. The next big boost will come in September 2023, when cricket will be played at the Asian Games.

France and Italy have qualified to the Division One of 2023 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier. Top two teams from division one will qualify to the 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier. A total of 10 teams are taking part in the World Cup Qualifier, including Ireland and Sri Lanka. Two teams from the qualifier will take part in the 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup. Personally I believe that ICC should have expanded the T20 World Cup to 16 or even 20 countries. With 10 teams, you can't even call it a "world" cup.

Women's Ashes being played between Australia Women and England Women. Both the teams are at their best. It resembles same as the first test match that took place between Australia and England men's team. End of day 3, Australia with 92 runs lead and 10 wickets in hand means there is more chance for a draw. If there happens consecutive wicket fall we can see thrilled match. The performance from both the teams were really impressive, because if it was other teams surely they could've never crossed 200 runs. Australia have scored 473 runs in the first innings with the top performance coming from Annabel Sutherland scoring 137* runs. Following the performance, England have scored 463 runs with the top performance coming from Tamsin Beaumont scoring 208 runs.
