When I first came here where I live now for work some years ago,in a small Western Balkan country I immediately was surprised by the big number of casino places and lotto clubs,they even had a clone name of Caesar Palace which in my honest review they had done it really well with free snacks and drinks as long as you would play a minimum of 20 dollars.

This was one of the big casinos and men were massively playing there however also women came there occasionally and I did not see a big difference in behavior between men and women except men are always more and this is natural,so most likely that research has some truth in it.

Just speaking alone from experience you could really say that  the machismo when it comes to men gambling is really there, but not especially hwne a gambler doesn’t have a big bankroll. Not in all instances. I have a female friend who gambles but she's not taking the risk too much. They are more conscious of losing in an instant so atleast they'd be betting small amounts for them to play more and to play longer which would give them more chance to win. I've compared it with my playing style wherein I am testing my luck most of the time by bettinf huge amount expecting for higher return. It does depend on the individual whether to play with a 'phase' or not. Everyone is free to give his own interpretation on women interaction with gambling but what we will all arrived at is that we cannot compare the rate of women participation to that of men in gambling, maybe we can give some reasons like how women were believed to be weaker vessels unlike men in most cases, their dedication and commitments to the house and the family especially in taking care of the children at home, lastly maybe our women may not have that boldness of taking risk associated to gambling because some depends on their earnings to take care of the family.

When we look at the final tables of the big tournaments we are seeing 90% male professional poker players. It's not that woman can't play poker, it's just that they don't want to invest the thousands of hours you need to become a pro.
