Cedi Osman has transferred to PAOK. He signed a 3-year contract and a signing ceremony was held in front of the fans. He most recently played for Panathinaikos and has remained in the Greek league. It seems unlikely he'll return to the NBA. He'll now continue his career in Europe. In fact, it was thought he had much greater potential. However he was never able to make that leap in his career. Cedi Osman will be the first Turkish basketball player to play for PAOK in 19 years, following in the footsteps of İbrahim Kutluay. PAOK looks set to put together a strong roster for the Eurocup.
In Türkiye, both Fenerbahçe and Anadolu Efes wanted him. Fenerbahçe would have matched the salary PAOK offered, but he didn't come. I was surprised that he didn't choose Anadolu Efes. Turkey would have been a good choice for both him and his wife, but the 3 million Euro annual salary offered by PAOK seemed more attractive. I don't know what the tax system is like in Greece, but Anadolu Efes's offer was a high figure. He would have ended up with more money in hand, yet he chose PAOK and the opportunity to compete in the EuroCup. I wish him success. In my opinion, Cedi made the right move; he is 31 years old right now. PAOK has made significant investments to get back to the level where they can compete in the EuroLeague. As far as I know, Cedi will earn a net annual salary of 3 million Euros in Greece. It is a three-year deal, but I think the coming years will depend on his performance this season. Cedi will be the team leader. It is a country he knows well, and he has already established a lifestyle that suits him there. Turkey is very close; if he wanted to, he could even make a day trip there and be back home by evening. He came up through the Anadolu Efes youth system in Türkiye, so joining Fenerbahçe wouldn't have been the right move. I wish he had come to my team, Beşiktaş 😃, but our club couldn't have paid the kind of money he was looking for.

As far as I know Cedi Osman is now the 2nd most earner among all Turkish basketball players. I mean in the world right after Alperen Şengün. Cedi Osman really deserves it though. He also has a history in NBA but unfortunately he couldn't make as big impact as Alperen. Anyway PAOK is really preparing well for next season. If they manage to win the Eurocup after these moves we can see them in the Euroleague.

They currently have by far the best team out of all of the teams in the eurocup. So i think for them its a must win, they cannot slip up,this is their only chance and the biggest one to get into the euroleague. Cedi Osman is an amazing player and im shocked that he has moved to the eurocup but still its big money so i guess that is the main reason he moved to Paok.

Sure, Osman is a good player but he is not THAT amazing as people are saying here. Obviously he can help PAOK and if they offered him the most money of all the team obviously he will go there. Money rules and with a limited career window you have to take what you get, even if you team quality wise take a step back. Maybe he also sees the bigger picture and PAOK might be in the EL soon. I mean they are talking about expansion all the time and a 3rd Greek team definitely would fit the narrative.

No matter which EuroLeague team he might join, his playing time would be limited, and no other club has matched the salary PAOK is offering. At PAOK, he will be the team leader, and if they compete in the EuroLeague next season, he will be the key figure driving that success. Besides, it takes time to adjust even when simply moving to a new city. If he has established a comfortable life for himself in Greece and is earning the salary he wants, why seek out a new adventure? I would do the same thing in his position. Cedi is now approaching the latter stages of his basketball career; if he completes this three-year stint, he might play a bit longer for mid-tier teams in Türkiye afterward.

They have great squad on paper, but I'm sceptical about their coach. Trinchieri is respected in Europe, but here after his work with Zalgiris he have reputation of scammer. in Lithuania. He talked nicely, but results were far from expectations. And when you look at his career, he haven't won much. Anyway, going to be interesting to follow PAOK.

They’ve assembled a very strong roster, but the real question is whether they can gel as a team. With this level of quality, they could even compete in the EuroLeague. I used to admire Trinchieri when he was coaching Bayern. I always wondered what he could achieve if given a really strong squad. His stint at Zalgiris last year didn't go well. He really ought to lead PAOK to the EuroCup title with ease.

It would be great if the Russian teams came back, too; a league without CSKA just isn't the same. I hope the war ends soon and we see Russian teams back on the basketball and football stages. Hopefully, PAOK wins the EuroCup this year and secures a spot in the EuroLeague for next season. I am most curious about Beşiktaş this year. I hope they put up a strong fight; they have been making significant investments in basketball in recent years.

I was very sceptical about Dubai at first too but when I found out how they’d put the team together and who’d been involved in setting it up, I understood the situation and accepted it. To put it simply, it’s a Yugoslavian team set up with Dubai money. Dubai provides the funding, but as far as I’m aware, the team was put together by a Bosnian group, which is why they’re competing in the ABA League. So, we could say it’s a Yugoslavian team set up with Dubai’s money and playing its matches in Dubai. Once I learnt this, my views changed. Frankly, the league needs big budgets. Dubai is providing this, but its mindset is that of a Balkan basketball team. I think it is acceptable.

For Russian teams its really insane that they didnt allow them to comeback and Isreal teams are still in the euroleague. I dont know what is wrong with politics and to always come into sports. Paok should be instead of Dubai because they are a european team and Dubai is all just about money and not even from europe. Paok will probobly win the eurocup and will go into euroleague next season surely.

I agree that Russian teams should still be kept out actually, but you are right, they should do the same to the Israeli teams since the situation is kinda the same, just kinda though. But going into politics will lead us nowhere, just as always. Obviously there is a lot of power and money and connections involved, just as always. People never get shown the full picture and real truth and speculating why things are the way they are brings nothing.

In my view, Israeli teams are no different from Dubai Basket. Russia was excluded from the league due to the state of war, yet Israel's situation is no different. Israel's situation is one-sided; it attacks every country in the region. I do not wish to politicize the matter, but the situation is frustrating.

Well, I guess Israel has more connection to Europe than Dubai which is so far away. Maccabi played in every season of Euroleague, won it several times and nobody didn't had problems with it. Question about removal of Israel clubs was raised multiple times, butfrom what I understand it didn't got enoughsupport from stakeholders (clubs) who voted on it. And I don't want to turn this topic into political discussion and don't want to be advocate of Israel, but I wouldn't call their situation is completely one-sided - like they're not getting attacked by Iran for example. But no, I'm not justifying what Israel is doing.

The euroleague was more intresting and now we get a lot more teams that shouldnt be in the euroleague at all and that is really a shame. I think that we will soon see divisions like in the nba with how many teams are joining the euroleague. I think that once they allow russians to come back we will see the divisions because its impossible to see so many team come to the league at once. Isreali teams should be allowed back once Russian teams are allowed i think thats fair but i guess we will continue to see the two Isreali teams

I saw an image with the latest rosters with transfers and solid rumors for every team: Viewing like this gives you an idea about next season. So far for the transfer season, I think, Panathinaikos and Fenerbahçe are the most successful teams, naturally. Additions of Bonga and Yabusele are extremely good, for an already good roster. Olympiakos is also a contender of course with the transfers so far. The teams I’m most curious to see how they’ll perform next season are Asvel, Barça and Milano. I wonder if we will see any big surprises.
