Hah, I see no one even shared Oscar winners from the last night. No surprise that there's not much interest in eat seeing how this award is becoming less and less relevant year after year.

Regarding the winners, there were no  many surprises there, with one of the bigger ones probably Anora winning best picture of the year even though Brutalist was favorite. Pretty weak year overall, without a single movie that will be remembered in let's say 10 years.

I was very much not following this because this is not similar to other sportsbets where being alone would be very much okay. Oscars bets there should be someone to argue to make this more thrilling for me. If the Dune 2 was nominated for these categories together for best movie, best director, best adapted screenplay and best actor, I was certain to challenge Saint-loup for a bet and I will be also certain that the bet will certainly be another donation for his wallet heheheheheh.

Also, I did not watch very many movies last year.

Both actresses are excellent at playing their roles, and of course Hugh Grant has been as great as ever, although this is the first time in his career he is playing the role of a maniac.

I'm curious and checked Metacritic, seems like the users more or less agree that it's a 6/10 movie from 1k votes or so. It's wildly different from critics' judgment, but that's no surprise considering how many movies have this score difference in recent years. On other aggregators' websites, it seems like the rating is a bit better, although I'm not sure how many of them are legit users instead of paid reviewers. A lot of people seem to think the movie feels like a softcore instead of an award-winning, plot-driven one at least.

In terms of roles, I think the actors and actresses actually played well in the film, but the storyline was too monotonous and the predictable ending became a question of worthy or not Anora won the Oscar this year, I think nowadays a lot of nomination events have gone out of the neutral path and can't really be trusted, not only the ballon d'or event, even  Oscar event are also currently often an event full of political dynamics and trends, sometimes the winning film also does not have pure quality.

This is true that Anora got the fame after winning the Oscar award. Just saw trailer of Anora on Youtube and most of people commented that they are here after Anora won so many Oscar's in one night. Directed, written, edited and produced by Sean Baker, it' a low budget movie that is produced in just 6 million dollar budget. Sean Baker won four Oscars for the film, that' first time in history that a person has won 4 Oscars for a single film. The fifth Oscar for Anora is due to Mikey Madison for her best actress.

I also watched the trailer and it looks interesting, have to see the movie to know why it won 5 Oscar's.

Yeah you really overestimated Dune 2. I liked it for the mostof the part, but imho first part is a superior film, and the one I watched like 4-5 times, while Dune 2 I saw only once I think and honmestly have no intention to watch it again any time soon. I guess waiting for scifi movie to win best picture Oscar goes on.

It's a very interesting movie; I watched it yesterday, and yes, 'only because it won the Oscar.' But I think it's an excellent movie and deserves it. It's not that it's a memorable film, but it's very good, subtle, with tension, comedy, and drama that in small doses keep us on the edge, and that's even though my bet was fully on the brutalist.

That's the thing any more these days, I don't ever watch award shows for dick because I know a lot of it is simply political.  The other part to it is my god movies seem to just be getting worse over time.  My buddy and I were deciding if we wanted to go see Captain America, but we have heard a lot of mixed reviews, so we thought about going to something else but every other movie out right now for those middle aged at least are absolutely boring looking.

I cannot disagree with your argument. Christopher Nolan is also a very great director who has directed and produced some of my favorite movies. Presently, my most favorite from this is Tenet. I wish Christopher Nolan will create a part 2!

However, there is also an argument that Dune:Messiah will not be on the same Oscar year as Nolan's Odyssey because Dune:Messiah will be on theatres on December 2026 whicn implies it might be on the Oscar nominations list on 2028 if it will be voted to be in the list.

Anyhow, Anora winning atought expected cause Oscars likes to reward useless crap was really disappointing, they should have just gave it one or two, not go overboard like that for a thing that would not beat your average soap drama in a viewership battle.

Meh...if it wasn't for Sean Penn and the need to give him the award it wouldn't even have been there.
As for Lost in Translation, Bill's acting died for me on Groundhog Day.

Not all movies have the same replay value. For example, I watch Harry Potter movies each year during Christmas period but that there are many movies that I saw only once and think of them as better movies.

By the way, I was a big fan of LOTR long before movies were even created (I remember discussing with a friend that Connery would be a good Gandalf if they ever decide to make a movie only to find out yearls later that he actually rejected the role lol) but for some reason TT and ROTK never sit too well for me (TT especially being a big disappointment as that's my favorite LOTR book), while for me Fellowship is a masterpiece despite some changes from the book.

The Lost in Translation was my favorite movie of that year. Was it nominated for best movie? I only can remember that Bill Murray being nominated for best actor as mr. Bobosan and Sofia Coppola nominated as best director. However, yes, the Mystic River was also a good nomination for that year. I reckon if Mystic River was not in the Oscar awards also in the same year, I speculate that the Lost in Translation was the winner for best director and best actor, also if nominated for best movie, it would also certainly win this. This movie is very much similar to the happy feelings of the Green Book and Coda. I very much like to have a similar personality of mr. Bobosan when I am 50 years old hehehehehehe.

Has anyone been watching the latest movies? I am looking for the latest odds for Oscar's different categories, however, the first I have found is on stake.com and it has the odds for best movies only. If I remember correctly, last year the sportsbooks have the speculated odds for best actor, best actress and best director also.

The favorite for best movie is One Battle After Another. I did not watch this, however, the reviews are very good. There are other titles mentioned and the only movie I have watched is the Sinners which was also a very good movie heheheh.

On Polymarket, it appears that the betting for everything, including the minor categories, has begun hehehehe.
