Here my opinion would be that as per present time oil is a bigger strength than agriculture for the development of a country.  Because all of the agricultural products that are currently in use, from fertilizers to all types of improvement technologies, require oil to operate. We are now in a situation where if the oil supply is not adequate, not only agricultural but also many other sectors will be faced with many obstructions.
The points I mentioned above are applicable to the current situation. But there is no guarantee that the role or necessity of oil will remain the same in the future as many environmentally friendly technologies are currently being developed to reduce dependency on oil. Agriculture is one thing that will remain forever because agriculture is the main source of human survival.  That's why you can see that many countries in the Middle East that are on the top list in oil production are also undertaking various projects to increase soil fertility in their countries. Agriculture has been supportive in our today economy, because in our daily live we make use of agriculture product. When it comes to oil, oil is needed for the production of fuel, kerosene, and countries make billions through the help of trading oil, for example my country remain dependent on oil revenue.

Both are important but i think oil is way important. You can grow basic food almost anywhere. Potatoes for example, they grow very fast and easy and we consume them every day. There are also greenhouse products. This tech lets you grow anything anywhere. A country can be blessed with more than one source of sustenance or external revenue but there should be a major that the country is known for. What OP discussed is a case study of Nigeria as a country. The country former has agriculture as it's major source of income not until oil was discovered and Agriculture outrightly abandoned. It was during the regime of former president Mohammadu Bihari that the idea of Agriculture was revamped.
Both oil and Agriculture is cool but I have a very high inclination to agriculture because of its ability to give food and as well as money.
