Depends on the context of your country and it's economy, to be honest.
There are countries where people would rather to work for a private company and others where a work with the government is more appealing.

I have received some offers from both, but it is very situational what you will choose here in this country. Private companies offer a better salary, but their schedules are very grinding and can mess with the health of people. Government jobs tend to be more lax, pay less but you got more time to do your own things.

Depending on what  our needs are, we will end up choosing one.

Really depends on teh country tho. In most of Europe it doesnt matter if you have a private or goverment job, you still have a pension. Private jobs usually tend to pay more at the higher end but gov jobs tend to be more stable. I would even say the lower end of goverment pay is also higher than in private sector.

There are good private jobs that pays much higher than government jobs and they will take proper care of you and till you retire. They will even pay your gratitude and every other bonuses. I think also that there are now some level of wanting to be independent by many people instead of working in government and you only depend on salary and hope for pension at old age and sometimes that pension is not paid in some countries because of corruption.

I would prefer to work in the private sector because they are open to new ideas and embrace innovation. Most public setups suffer from bureaucratic bottlenecks that hamper positive changes. Most government establishments operate on laid down rules that are very difficult to change. In a private organisation, your ideas will be accepted and appreciated but in public firms, the process of policy-making is centralised making employee input difficult. Reward in private organisations is mainly based on the input or performance of employees but public organisation focuses on seniority based year of service. Public firms usually promote workers based on how long they have been in the organisation instead of using their positive impact or contribution.

To myself, a government job comes with numerous advantages that will compel me to accept it and not consider alternatives. If you prefer security, i would say a government job unless you negotiate yourself a good job in private sector and you are an union member. Benefits on governement is giving are probably way easier to get then from private sector. But if you want to go somewhere with your career, your changes with private sector are higher. It's no guarantee of anything and you might not get a promoton ever in there either.

Also i am assuming you are from USA as in some countries even private sector has to offer way better benefits than in USA for example. At the moment in my country i would take a governent job as future looks more bleak.

It's true because in government jobs, there's a certain allocation that's given to post and the increase will vary if the budget allocated will also increase.

But many have learned with the private sectors and jobs there that even they say that you're in a permanent position, this past years through pandemic have taught us that jobs aren't permanent.

TBH I'm not into government job but for me there are lot of advantageous things when you're into private job but what's the most advantageous is having you as the boss like having a business. I accept that government pay are low, but we cannot compare them to private jobs because the government provides the security and is permanently pensionable, and is more secure. You are correct in regards of the uncertainty of private jobs. It is easier to get fired because of minors situations or even because of the whim of your boss. Also, working hours can be harsher when compared to government jobs. Your boss in a private company reserves the right to call you at any time to ask you to do something from your computer or send a document to him (it is something which has personally happened to me).

For a first time job, I would suggest professionals to try first a job with the government, before jumping onto a private company. It can also help to accumulate experience and curriculum.

As you said, it depends on the context of the country, and answering your question, in Spain, and I think that in Europe in general, the average salary working for the Government is much higher in almost all levels (except for Chiefs, due to do the imbalance in the private sector because of greed, and the vocation of public service in the public sector).

Of course, there are exceptions, but functionaries are known in general to have a better quality of life. That's why some of the most prepared ones study for months or years for the official exam, and that's why it's said that access to these jobs is based on merit and capacity, and not on how you present yourself, as the OP said very well for the private companies.

Yes, it is true that working in the government is the dream of many people in various countries, with a fairly stable income and having a pension fund, many people are hunting to get it. With the situation the country is facing like Covid yesterday, working in the government means that people don't panic and there will be no dismissals.

Personally, I would choose to work for the government. Even in government employment, your compensation may be determined by the certification you hold, and not all private sector jobs positions give you the option to select the monthly salary you would receive. I've seen certain private employment where, if you don't like the amount they tell you you'll get paid each month, you have to accept it or give the work to someone else. I believe that if you work in private organization, you might not be able to leave work when you want to since there might not be someone to cover for you, so what would you do if you had an emergency at work and no one to help you? The benefit of working for the government is that there are always replacement employees available to help out. In this situation, I would definitely choose government employment for my own understanding as not all jobs in the private sector make sense.

In particular, the massive programming of new politicians by the D.C. political machine, to "go along and get along," has been enormously beneficial to the efforts of the elites inside the Beltway to shield themselves from any true reckoning from those ignorant peasants back home. Before choosing any job (whether in the private or public sector) I'll have to  consider some things. The pay should be attractive and it should not be a job that will drain me. Any job that will make me work like a slave is and worst still earn peanuts is not an option, no matter the sector it is coming from, whether public or private sector.

I do know that most public jobs are flexible and not time consuming but bad governments especially in Africa do not pay the workers on time. When you are working for the government, there is possibilities of them training you to improve your knowledge on your area of specialization. People that I know who work government jobs are paid the bare minimum for that job, but they also get a lot of slack and can take long breaks and use all the benefits. Some persons may have been applying for government job for not getting it, it is better we go for the once that are available so we can at least have something to do and take care of our needs. At least in your country there are options to reach retirement, here it does not matter whether one works for the government or the private sector. One is supposed to work here until one's death. Take your time, no one is sitting on you, no one is forcing you, just work as you wish and do it with your own effort. The more you work, the more money you will get and the more work you have. Indeed, there are many high paying jobs, both government and private. But the competition is too much. Only 5–10 people are selected out of 1000–5000 candidates (not real statistics, but it's somehow similar, only to understand the current job situation at my place). On the other hand, the selection process isn't fair at all (mostly govt). One has to pay a huge amount of bribe to be selected. The officials would say, this isn't true, bla bla bla shit...but I'm telling from experience. And most of the time, they are ok with this as long as they can get their hands on a govt job. It is not all bosses that are hash and if you have never been bossed over by any one, it will definitely be difficult for to become a boss. I do not mean that being a boss mean maltreating your subject or showing unnecessary superiority. There are good and kind bosses, and these are the people you will work with and kindly feel so comfortable. Although these kind of people are hard to find, especially in the third world countries.

In the civilized economy, extortion is not a priority. In as much as you are productive as an employee, you will get your due respect. Apart from that, proactive government makes laws that protect labour. So, in a country where things are organised, no one will boss you unnecessarily.

The particular answer to this question will be base on the country we live in, as for my country both government jobs and the private job are categories into types by types, like government jobs are divided into three categories, we have local government job, state government jobs and federal government job. Federal government job get higher money than the remaining two follow by state government jobs then last local government. Likewise in private jobs too they are categories into two graduates and non graduate. As for me money is my concern I know of people working for private organisations and they are paying them well far better than the federal government work, in my place we don't decide on what we will receive when working for private.

It becomes pretty easy to do comparisons between government and private jobs when you are from a country like mine, where the private jobs are in general better paid, with more demand and the lack of competition with the state sponsored jobs. If I am offered then surely I will choose government job because government job has many benefits which are not available in private job especially in my country private job condition is very bad any moment one can lose job from the company. Based on the conditions in my country, a civil servant has no job security and has to work hard and the pay is very low. If a person makes a mistake in the last 30 years of service in a private job, he is fired or if he is in a bad position in the company, he does not hesitate to fire even a person who has served for 20 years out of 30 years. The fact that government job give me more time to do other things I will prefer it to private job and just like others mentioned,  a private job may offer more payment but then the suck up all your time and stress you out on daily and this have made private job not appealing to many most especially those in the age between 50+ years who need more time and rest to put they health in shape.

Actually, working in the government or private sector is the same. the only difference is the work system and work regulations. If I was asked to choose the government or the private sector, currently I would prefer to work in the government and if I was asked to choose in the past I would prefer to work in the private sector. Why so? Government jobs are currently more promising than those in the private sector. The only difference nowadays is that working in the private sector is far superior in wages or salary. Currently private employment is very, very cruel with its regulations and systems. In my country, private employees/laborers are currently only given contracts for a maximum of 6 months and a minimum of 3 months, isn't that cruel? In the past, private workers who lost their contracts did not stipulate in the contract when they ended their work. but now as time goes by private workers/employees are increasingly marginalized by the existence of new systems from private employers. there is no severance pay, no leave pay and there are still many regulations that are considered very detrimental to private sector employees themselves. It is clear that with the way work is arranged in contracts where the contracts consist of 3 months to 6 months, many private employees are afraid of their future accounts, unlike in the past, which used a post-contract system, employees will not think about when they will stop working before their retirement...

In addition to your point, I will also add that it depends on the nature of the job too. I don't know the part you're from but if you conduct a research today on people's opinion about private job, you'll discover that majority are into private work due to inability to secure government job. It's never their preferred choice to work with private organizations. There is nothing to write home about about private jobs. The organization decides your salary and you either accept it or reject the job. I have seen cases of private organizations owing their staffs for more than three good months salary and end up paying on installment when they decide to pay. Let not even talk about yearly bonus and promotion packages or even pension after retirement. An organization struggling to pay staffs salaries, you expect them to surprise their staffs with allowances and packages? It's not possible.

Of course, government work is not completely perfect, it has lapses too but much more better than private work here. Your salary is assured, it might not come early as expected some times but will certainly come. Your promotion is guaranteed and you will have access to numerous yearly packages and loans if interested. You don't need to worry about your living standard after your retirement because gratuity and pension got you covered. Aside that the work in government work is more less than in private works, the pay is also more favorable too in government work.
