I saw something on Quora that worried me. Someone said that he lost 1200 BTC to scammers. Then, I saw some people sharing/claiming to be experts in recovering lost bitcoin. They shared their contact details like Telegram IDs and WhatsApp numbers.

I have a suspicion that the person who lost the BTC might be the same one giving out those contact details or advices. They could be trying to trick others in the future who search for help online. Google might suggest similar questions on Quora, and people could end up sharing their private keys with scammers.

So, if you are new to all this, be careful. Don't trust random people claiming to be experts on Quora or anywhere else. They might just be trying to get your private information.

It undoubtedly has many members falling into a fraudulent circle. If someone has created such a group to recover lost bitcoins then it is definitely nothing but a scam. However, in the case of all the members who have contacted them through their own contact or ID, they should not give their identification or information. Many times fraudsters commit crimes by stealing their own documentsThere could be bigger problems. Therefore, never give identity or verification information to fraudsters. Especially the private key of the wallet or the security system should be completely avoided because no honest or real organization or circle will ever ask anyone to give any genuine document file.

The fact that it will help to recover 1200 bitcoins is a bit doubtful, to be honest. Why? In the history of such issues until now, has there been news that, after being scammed for a large amount of money, someone was kind enough to help recover the lost amount of money?

Nothing like that has ever happened, and until now, it still hasn't. Then that 1200 btc, who can do that? Aren't they just millionaires, especially with the value that Bitcoin has today?

Online information should not be taken at all about things that involve the risk of your assets being stolen. The second most important thing is that you should never give your private keys to any unknown person, but you should not give your information to anyone except yourself. Scammers also provide fake websites on Google, which are often easy for newbies to fall into.

Newbies should always seek help from someone close to them instead of online help, so that they don't face scams. Anyway you have provided good information and newbies should always try to keep their assets safe by following such information, because of lack of experience, often new people face more such problems.

When it comes to bitcoin and public and private keys, it is never good to give them, under any type, the circumstances can be many but you should not leave any type of things like that, first what they can put in any forum is and can be very false to see those who can scam, no one under any type of criteria can ask you for your private keys, much less lose 1200BTC, and then say that you will not recover them, I think that is very false, the fact that they tell it like that, It already seems false to me, it's something that doesn't fit into my brain, I see it as very weak from any context, it's something that doesn't fit into human logic, because it doesn't fit.

I got the message of Quora 1200 BTC scam story in my email box, infact I took my time to read the some of the replies which most of them look similar, majority of those replies shared same stories of losing different amount of USDT and Bitcoin, one of them was even saying one of his friend who was an FBI agent helped him to recover his stolen fund and other similar stories, I truly agreed that this is a well perfected setup to lure people who had genuinely lost some coin into a trap either by promising to assist them in retrieving their coins whereas they have some ulterior motives to scam because from those replies some of them are requesting for Dms, this is a red flag except for unsuspecting victims who might fall for these scam.

I can't even imagine someone claiming to restore a lost Bitcoin how and from where?
This is just something that is not possible to do because I know too well that any bitcoin stolen or mistakenly sent to wrong address can never be restored all less you have a direct contact with the person who owns the address. But however only newbies can fall for this cheap scam methods.

Same thought that comes to my mind when I see people seeking for help desperately after losing their coins, especially on social media from total strangers they know nothing about. This will only make you vulnerable and expose you to more danger and severe pain because at this point,  you are emotionally down and can do anything to get help. Note this, if you lose your coin(s), it is gone and cannot be reversed except in few cases where you are close to the supposed beneficiary.

Sometimes there many in the room so as one person call or drop and others also drop different information nd recommendation and those who don't know anything will call the contact thinking that the person they contact is a good person. And if you call one person in that place they will give the phone to one another making the thing more real.

They are in some sort of chain network, working hard to convince their latest prey that whatever help or business they are offering is genuine, if you are not smart enough to avoid them, they'll feast on your funds.

In this current age where everyone is vigilant,  where news about scammers and their mode of operations have spread round like wild fire, no one is supposed to fall victim to these scammers. Avoid strangers by all means, especially those ones that offer unsolicited help and juicy offers.

One of the basic ways to con people, you create a problem and then somehow there's people out there that wants to help you out. I am 60% sure that it's a scam because that's a possibility but the it will only go to a 100 if I can see that the person who has posted their problem show a proof that they've got a problem and that there's really an issue and that someone was able to solve the issue and so far I am not happy with what I am seeing, I am like that one American Dad meme where he's looking at the meter to see if it crossed the line.

In this current age where everyone is vigilant,  where news about scammers and their mode of operations have spread round like wild fire, no one is supposed to fall victim to these scammers. Avoid strangers by all means, especially those ones that offer unsolicited help and juicy offers.
I am really happy that there's more and more people becoming more vigilant and aware of different types of scams, this kind of thing happening results in these scams losing their influence over many people because now a lot of people are already asking questions and the scammers aren't prepared to answer any of them, they got too complacent about their method that they didn't expect them to ask questions so they haven't prepared any answers. I wouldn't say that I'm a good person but when a stranger asks me for help, I always try my best to help out knowing that there's a possibility that it's a prelude or their way into introducing me to a scheme but I know that when I do that, the possibility of scam is likely so don't try what I do because you might not realize it sometimes that you're already being scammed.

Even if you are in direct contact with the person who owns that address, it is difficult to prove ownership of it. Scammers usually use fake identities and fake accounts to make it easier for them to easily escape with the money later. Since most countries in the world do not regulate the crypto transactions sector, filing lawsuits will have no significant benefit, especially since it is not easy to prove the facts.
Although I constantly read about successful scam attempts, I am amazed at the victims who lose huge amounts of 12,000 Bitcoins. The value of these assets may exceed the budgets of some countries, and despite that, I can only say that their owners are very reckless and lack the basics of dealing on the Internet.

Direct contact I mean is when you have been constantly been transacting the address one mistakenly send the bitcoin at this point he could write to the owner. Just like a topic I came across here in the forum someone mistakenly send btc to another user here and he post his mistakes the person who received the bitcoin retuned it back to the original owner. But believe me or not if it was now I don't think such person would come to refund back the BTC to sender, still while sending BTC we should be very mindful with the way we transfer them or like our security aspect we should be more stronger.

We are here talking about a huge sum estimated at 12,000 bitcoins, and not about an ordinary transfer that was sent by mistake to an address whose owner you know.  I can bet that anyone who receives this amount will return it to its owner, even if he knows him.
It is not the same when we talk about a successful scam, as the sender did not send Bitcoin by mistake and was expecting profits from what he was doing.  Personally, I do not remember that a similar case occurred on the forum, especially with amounts of this size.
Just verifying the receiving address is not enough in such cases, and it would have been better to ask about the nature of the whole matter before deciding to send.

I mean that is an obvious scam, how a person can recover stolen or wrong-sent Bitcoin that is not possible right? If people can recover without a private key they will be a lot richer just by recovering some address. and he lost 1200 Btc that is crazy amount and I dont think the question even real.

I have this friend who complained to me about sending money to Elon Musk online all in the name of investing in Tesla company and not getting the profit he was promised. And I thought to myself, how can people be this naive about obvious scam shits like this, someone sends you a random message online and tells you he's Elon Musk and don't find that suspicious? Howwwww?

You made me laugh. Elon Musk seems to be keeping a lot of people like your friend awake. And the whole reason is that people are simply uneducated. Lack of information, stupid stay on social networks, where scammers multiply nowadays and publish all sorts of nonsense about quick profits, completely taking away the last grains of the brain from stupid people. It's very funny to see those unfortunate people who hoped to become millionaires with three simple clicks on a link.
In truth, as long as people believe that Bitcoin can be hacked or money can be returned, fraud will continue to develop.

They might just be trying to get your private information.

op Thank you very much for your very important post. There are many of us who live in the fantasy world that if Bitcoin is ever lost it will  be recovered. In this regard, anyone who says that bitcoin is lost, I will return it is 100% cheating on you. So we have to be careful not to fall into the trap of their deception. People who are familiar with Bitcoin and know well about Bitcoin will never be fooled by this scam. Especially this scam is more likely to happen with newbies so newbies should be careful.

The biggest mistake we often make is that we start asking everywhere whether it will be Quora or any other social media platform for help in such a situation but we even don't realize that the scammer was also present on the same platform, they keep an eye on such discussion platform to hunt a new person. When we ask a question a scammer comes and provides solutions but you can not use that solution and that's part of their tactics. After some discussion, you tend to take help and he asks for some personal info. He can't restore your lost Bitcoin but he can steal the remaining funds. We bringing this situation by our stupidity. We need to realize that no one can restore your lost BTC without yourself so instead of asking a stranger think of the phrase or key of your wallet.

I mean that is an obvious scam, how a person can recover stolen or wrong-sent Bitcoin that is not possible right? If people can recover without a private key they will be a lot richer just by recovering some address. and he lost 1200 Btc that is crazy amount and I dont think the question even real.

Don't trust too much because most likely it's just a nonsense, it will only restore your faith and hope but without real evidence, in my opinion there is no other way that can restore the amount of bitcoin you have lost unless you find your secret or private key. And if there are some people who provide other ways besides that then honestly for me personally I will not believe them.

This is really absurd, so maybe you are no longer strange with some advice that comes reminding you to keep your private key as well as possible, I think it is a strong enough reason because on the other hand it is almost impossible for them to recover something that has been lost in their accumulation, just think of it as a very valuable lesson.

Scammers are always trying every way to get people scammed, and this is really why they always come up with different tactics. This tactic is not new to the crypto industry, but still, a person can fall victim if they do not know more about how these scammers are playing around on these sites. Let's just imagine how these scammers may be trying to play with people, claiming they lost 1200 btc, and trying to claim they know someone who is an expert in recovering stolen or lost bitcoin. We have to really be careful don't believe anything on the internet easily unless you do ur own through research especially when it comes to money stuff. Op, thank you, I believe this will saver a reminder.
I think no one is going to take this whole thing seriously because basically,  the whole thing is a set up and a game and we all need to be wiser that that right now, and also having 1200 bitcoins in the hands of a scammers and wanting to get them out is almost an impossible thing, and anyone that promises to offer such services to recover the list Bitcoin is a hacker and at that you need to be careful and must not deal with them if it is online but if he is willing to get the Bitcoin out for your first and you pay him from the recovered bitcoins.

One thing to remember when dealing with strangers over the internet especially when you're desperate on the issues you're facing, is never to share any of your financial information like keys, password, and anything that's confidential.
A stranger who sends you a personal message first is a flag and you have to be more careful with any chat with that stranger.

Be very careful with links, documents, files sent to you by any stranger. They can be phishing links, malicious files. Prevention by avoid clicking on links, not download those files is best.

If a stranger asks for sensitive information: personal documents, information, account passwords, seed phrases, private keys, money. You have to refuse to do it, ignore and block that stranger as soon as possible.
Scamming has been rampant online so we have to be more cautious not to fall for it in every way possible.  Even myself has been receiving random messages from strangers online, and the best action for them is to never mind them at all. Keep ignoring all their messages and links being shared to you, they will get tired in the end and vanish. Never open attachments or click on links if the sender is a total stranger, otherwise your private information might be tracked.

Know all the red flags online. Be aware that if they can't get you or make you fall in their trap, they will find other means just to scam you. So be smarter than those scammers and never stop educating yourself because being knowledgeable is a great weapon not to be scammed.

Something similar happens on YouTube too, here you will come across comments saying, I made this much money listening to this financial experts and there will be details to contact them.
This is the most common lines online, most especially in youtube and facebook. If you can be easily lured by their most convincing and powerful words, they will certainly put you in their trap. Such common words used online, but still a lot of people most especially for beginners who have nothing but greed are still falling on them. Know that if they are really successful and profitable with their business online, they will not invite various people anymore and just keep their secrets all by theirselves.

This is a clear proof that everything you see or hear in the social media may not be true and can't be trusted. So always analyze the given offers carefully, and never easily bite them. And once they start to ask for money, just block them immediately, they're real scammers that we need to avoid.

Lol. This is just one their ways. To tell you more, Quora is not the only place.they operate, they flood every social media that engage in crypto discussion. I think Quora might even be better compare to X, just go under Binance or CZ tweets, your will be surprised by the number of crazy tweets you will see with impersonation and all they are doing is to lock a victim and drain him or her wallets address.

Some of the famous ways they disguise are:
  • claiming to be official support of wallets, most often than not, you will see atleast 10 different account impersonating Trust wallet account with emails, all Gmails with different contacts.
  • They even go ahead to get accounts verify just to show you that they are real person to help you but the hardly get eveb more than 20 followers.
I don't blame sometimes, I blame X and Elon musk for not asking more when they want to be verified or do more check on this scammers before they give them th blue tick but they love the revenue more than they care about their customers. It's better to stay guided against this scammers.

Google has the answers and solutions to almost everything. I believe many people would one way or the other ask Google how to recover wrong-sent Bitcoin to scammers and they want to recover it back.

many con answers will be given to them on how to do that on Google, with the hope they will recover their bitcoin without actually knowing that someone can't do it no matter how technologically wise the person can be able in aspect to trace the transaction without the scammer revealing his identity on exchange. Even, if a person reveals his identity on exchange, it can still be impossible for someone to recover their Bitcoin unless the government steps into it by using the identity the scammer used on sending the stolen bitcoin to an exchange.

I know that, the people who can request such help from people posing themselves to recover Bitcoin are mostly newbies because a knowledgeable person who knows about the basics of bitcoin can't ask for such help because he or she actually knows that a loss of bitcoin is lost forever without a trace

That's it; then I haven't witnessed that after being sent to an address that shouldn't be there, you'll still be able to recover it; no one has actually done that. Whoever did that didn't even bother to double-check if the address to be sent to was correct or not.

It doesn't matter if the amount of bitcoin to be released is only a small amount; I don't know, and I'm not sure what I'm thinking, so it's just a made-up story. If I'm the one with that amount, of course I'll do everything carefully, even if it's slow, as long as I can make sure that my bitcoin can be transferred to the address location it is going to. Then, in a flash, it turns out that the wrong address was put, so the number one person who is wrong is me, who knows the address, because I am aware that once it is sent, it will definitely be recovered unless the address that was sent is someone else that I know who is the owner.

I have found these fake stories and responses from these scammers abundantly on YouTube videos, platform X, Quora, and many other platforms, especially in cases related to stealing a significant amount of funds from a platform after being hacked by hackers. You find the scammers' comments plentifully, trying to deceive individuals who have been scammed or had their funds stolen, pretending that they can help them recover their stolen assets by contacting them through one of the communication methods or through the phishing domain link they send to these victims to recover their lost funds. Therefore, I completely agree that no one should trust strangers in the crypto field, seek help from them, disclose the amount of Bitcoin they hold, or believe everything written on these blogging platforms or social media and others.
