What is the definition of a Gambler? Do you consider yourself as a Gambler?

For me it's the basic, you are a gambler if you frequently played on land base or online gambling platform, place a bet and then hope that win more money.

That's the weirdest gambling definition I've seen in my life. Does that mean that a person who bets money online is not a gambler? Does he have to go to a brick and mortar casino to be called a gambler?
The real definition of a gambler can be looked up: a person who risks losing money in the hope of winning a lot more money Therefore it's not like OP said a person who is drawn into gambling (an addict), he doesn't have to enjoy it, he doesn't have to play in land-based casinos., doesn't have to spend a lot of money, doesn't have to lose money, he can be a winner and he'll still be a gambler.

To be honest being called a gambler online and being called offline have different feelings. I have never been called “gambler” in real life and I don’t think I’ll ever want anybody to ever refer to me with those words.

It is true that I engage in the act of gambling since I’ve risk my money with the hope of making more with it [I believe that’s the basic meaning of gambling]. But yet I wouldn’t want anyone to address me as a gambler, because to many people (mostly in my community) they view “gamblers” as those that are addicted and have a chance of uselessly spending their money.

I also use to hear words such as political  gambler's this refers to those set of politicians that take politics as a personal business and some time also making it very hard for those who have the right leadership skills to rule the affairs of the lands, so this set of people are referred to as political gambler's and also I think that gambling refers to all activities that relates to guise work that is something that you are not certain of the outcome and you just do it based on predictions and assumptions.

This is vital to individuals life and what have you, sometimes, we have to understand all of those things and should be willing to play along with it because not only when you are a core gamblers that is when you overly get involved with gambling that you can be call a gambler, but whenever you do any of the above mentioned things, the society can refer to that actions as gambling, so that is why, we should be active to know which of the gambler are we referred to if it means a core gambler or just a name to suit our desires.

Yeah, I dont really see why we need some fancy new word for something we already got a name for.  Gambler works just fine for talking about someone who is willing to take a risk for the chance to win something back.  Its a fair word, not making any judgments on whether gambling is good or bad.

A gambler is someone who is involved in gambling activities, those who bet or place bets on an outcome that cannot be predicted with certainty. And gambling is not always synonymous with land-based casinos or online gambling. A small example, when you have a speed race (running) with your friend and there is a certain amount of money at stake between both parties, then both you and your friend can be said to be a gambler. And in my opinion, when you like betting and gambling, why should you feel uncomfortable, reluctant or embarrassed when you are called a gambler?

And gambling is not always synonymous with playing cards, dominoes, slots, lottery or other similar things. When you buy a "scratch" card which is usually available in small shops. When you buy it and scratch a special card in the hope of finding a winning combination, then by doing this, you can be said to be a gambler.

I am a gambler. Gamblers are people who know that everything is gambling and that there are odds for everything. Things can happen, or not... we can win, but we can also lose. We know that there is no 101% sure thing, even 99.9% to win can fall in the end, and we know that the lowest odds can turn to win. It's how we see the world around us.

And gamblers like to make bets. Gamblers have favorite games and favorite odds... responsible gamblers know how much money they can spend on gambling, others will learn about it or will get in trouble. It's not so complicated, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, gamblers know that... and some gamblers like to play against the odds, push the limits sort of speaking. But we are not all the same, every gambler is unique in his own way.

Its normal to be uncomfortable with such a designation but on the other hand even if we want to deny it when we are a gambler we cannot avoid such a nickname. I am a gambler even though I am not as habitual as people think because I only gamble when I have free time and when there is an interesting thing to gamble every week but it is still a gambler.
I personally don't really care about other people's views or judgments of me whether they will assume I am a gambler or not I don't care about that because in the end we cannot limit other people from speculating about us especially when they know we are often in a gambling then indeed I think they will definitely assume they are like that.
The most important thing in this case is that I do not interfere with their economic situation with my gambling activities so I don't mind being called whatever it is.

Let me start by noting that any person who participates in gambling, whether actively or passively is a gambler. To clarify this, every person in a school register is regarded as a student not minding their academic performance or how frequently they attend classes. This is the same with gambling. As long as you stake something to get something you are a gambler even if it is done once in a while.

I see a gambler as an investor who has taken up the boldness to engage in a risky adventure that a reward is not guaranteed. And that is, staking something with the hope of getting a higher amount of what was staked. I say people who places bets on specific outcomes for the sole purpose of entertainment or profit could be considered as gamblers, but even then it would be very vague cause that would mean people who do trading are also gamblers (I mean they kind of are, but not that kind of gambling).

I guess it's really hard to pinpoint what gamblers are at the end of the day, cause you could easily say you're a gambler as long as you're playing risky games either for the glory or for the money, and even then a case could be made for why you aren't. Going to your disdain of the gambler moniker, I say it's nothing but a convenient name convention for people who have wasted their lives in the gambling industry which people saw as an opportunity to make use of. Personally I see through the realities of it and I don't get "offended" as you may have been. Regardless, I can understand why you could be though.

I think the best course of action here is not necessarily find a line to draw to realize whether you're a gambler or not, but to just be smart and responsible with your shit when you're gambling actually. Cause at the end of the day it's not the name that kills you, it's the actions you take while toting that title that defines you, and what you're going to be.

I think this question depends on your point of view. Because on a normal basis, a gambler is someone who engages himself in gambling activities of any kind. Of course the person in question may not be a core gambler but the fact is at that particular period of time if he indulges in gambling activities he is a gambler. I think the main difference with gambling and regular gaming is staking. Because when people stake for a normal game it can be called gambling and in my opinion, the persons involved in that activity during that period of time are gamblers.

I don’t see anything bad in gambling, and if I am alone and am being called a gambler, then I won’t get angry or be against it, but when I am in a public place, then you shouldn’t call me a gambler because I am going to be embarrassed. There is nothing bad about gambling, but in my society, if they know that you are a gambler, you will be taken as an irresponsible person. They don’t even care if you are an addicted gambler or if you just gamble for fun, everyone is being generalised. They don’t even care if you are addicted or not. That’s why I don’t really like the idea of calling me a gambler in public.
 
Seriously, I don’t blame the people in the society, I do blame addicted gamblers who do irresponsible things in the society just to make money to gamble. That’s why people in my society have already generalised it, and they see gambling as bad activities, so most responsible gamblers don’t want to be associated with gambling, they gamble hidden.

In my personal opinion, a gambler is a person who periodically wagers money on events and outcomes mostly demented by luck or randomness. Being the key word "periodically".

If someone tries a slot machine for the first time because they are curious about the colors and the graphics and designs on the screen, then that person is not necessarily a gambler. On the other hand, if someone risks money every weekend on an online casino or likes to bet on sports whenever their favorite season has started, then I would say those people are gamblers, because it is an activity which is carried out periodically. It does not have to be everyday or every week, though.
Also, perhaps some people do not like being called gamblers, mostly because the stigma and social consequences of having such tag in a very regkiojs community or in a town where gambling is frown upon, in those cases or contexts, I would not blame anyone for trying to not be called that way.
There are indeed very cruel people who like to prejudge and sentence others without even knowing what they are up to.

We have the same environment, the nickname "Gambler" is a negative nickname that will be a bad thing when heard by people around my neighborhood.
Gamblers are identified with gambling players who make bets and the like and look even more negative because they are associated with drunks and other criminal things.

When I play games on gambling sites, I don't consider me a gambler, I'm just a regular user who tries gambling games, doing a little betting on game betting.

I think there are many people like you who have tested other gambling games and were not affected and I am one of them. I think I can say that you are also a gambler because you tried different gambling games and I can say that you are a good gambler, you control yourself.

Even though i gamble: No, i don't define myself as one.

Reason for that is that i have many interests, and gambling isn't the main one. I identify as a father, as a musician, and as an autist more than just a gambler. But that doesn't mean that others wouldn't define me as one. People who only see me when i gamble, would define me as a gambler, because that's how definitions work.

Even if every day i do something that's important to me my whole life, and devote my life to it. Like being being a humanitarian, who is volunteering in charity work. Or a political activist, artist. That doesn't mean anything to other people, if they don't care about that. If i act in tv, i will be that guy who is acting in tv. If they see me playing in casino many times, they see me as a gambler. No matter what my other passions in life are.

Getting involved with a game of chances makes you a gambler, it's that simple, as sad as it may sound but at that point in time when you are involved, you are a gambler except you want to give it another glorified name but then the fact that there's no certainty with what you are trying out means you are gambling and one involved with gambling is a gambler.

There no problem with been identified as a gambler but the problem lays within your gambling approach and if you have gotten to the point bod addiction. I know im the second and third world countries, gambler's are been stereotyped with a mind set of irresponsibility but that doesn't mean all gamble's are actually irresponsible, you as a gambler who knows how well to stay disciplined and still have your fun can turn out the example and these people will be surprised at how you gamble get still stay this responsible, they may end up finding it difficult stereotyping you.

Well, whatever it is, @OP, I also thought of how it would really sound in the local language when someone call me a gambler.

But what other name can you title someone who gamble? You might not be a gambler like you said because it's not your thing and you don't love to do it; you only probably do it for some  serious or unserious and not really because you intend to.

But let's look at it this way: if you are in a taxi and you want to drop off at the nearest bus stop, what do you say to the person driving you? If you don't know the name of the man who is driving you, you will just say to him, "Driver , please drop me off there."

At that point, when he is driving you, you will definitely make reference to him as a driver, but if you see that same man walking on the street, you can't just call him a driver, right? So, that's it.

The moment you are on the seat placing a bet, you are gambling, and if someone makes reference to you at that moment, they will definitely say, "Look at that gambler over there."

I cannot deny the fact that I gamble; it's fun for me, and that's why I do it. If I am right at a casino gambling, then I am a gambler right at that moment, but if I leave the casino and am walking on the street, I will be referenced by my name and not by the name of what I do for my pleasure.

Another question I even think you should ask is: Who is a footballer? Because they are people who play ball, a gambler is someone who gambles.

But note, what I noticed is that people are not usually referred to based on what they do for fun or for leisure. People are more often referred to by their nes or what they consider their profession or occupation. For example, you can say someone is a doctor, a lawyer, or an engineer, and you can openly or publicly call them, saying, "Hello, Dr." But you can't say, "Hello, gambler." Lol, it's quite funny though, but I hope you get my point.

A gambler isn’t someone who is addicted to gambling, it sounds like that is your judgement which is why you dislike the title. A gambler is someone who risks money to win an extra money or to win a material item, under an uncertain outcome. It doesn’t matter if you do it often or not, as long as you do what a gambler does, you are a gambler. It isn’t as bad as it sounds though, I think it’s societal perception that makes the picture somewhat dirty.
