Unfortunately the first time player, second time or old time player are all regarded as gambler so long you are see in the domain of gambling or in the act of gambling. This is especially for offline gambling because there is no hiding place for those who go into the gambling houses, even if you sneak in you never knew who saw you or you might be coming out and suddenly meet someone that you have been hiding your gambling habit from. In my country the language or word 'Gambler', if defined or speculated on, has a broad meaning and many of its meanings lead to negative words, such as: gamblers, liars are often referred to as thieves, words like that are very negative and insulting to those who hear them, to be honest, I personally don't like hearing that Gambler is mentioned.

What's more, when the word Gambler is mentioned in a Muslim-majority environment, it is a real insult to those who hear it, so it's preferable to be called 'Weedy', maybe it's not too crooked to hear if it's defined and it's still funny to hear.

You no need to identify yourself as a gambler everywhere but the definition of gambler is "one who gambles" which means if you are gambling then the person who is gambling will be called as gambler.

In the country I live in, gambling is widely considered bad activity and some people who are still too religious about religious beliefs will consider gambling or being gambler to be bad thing that should be avoided.
The word gambler is more often interpreted as someone who likes betting on sports betting, cockfighting, card games, online casino games or also lottery betting and indeed this type of betting is the most popular among the people where I live.
But we who like to gamble, even though it gets bad view from some people, still don't care about it and we will do it because this is one of the pleasures you have.

As long as it doesn't harm other people and make other people experience hardship or misery then whatever form of gambling is done and whatever point of view everyone has about us gamblers, it still not problem that needs to be cared about.
After all, we gamble using the money we earn ourselves from hard work or the results of doing business.

Well even outside religious belief, gambling still has its own bad impression but that's not to the activity itself but with people who became greedy and unrealistic with what gambling is all about. If things are managed properly then nothing will be viewed negatively. We can enjoy gambling as "gamblers" by managing the risks and avoiding ideologies that wil push us to higher tendencies of loss.

No matter what game you play as long as "betting" is involved then that would make you a gambler already. Either casino or sports related betting, things are the same if we are just referring to the idea of gambling ever since and I doubt there's a need for changes with that. It doesn't matter to me when someone tell me that I am a gambler because I admit that I am someone who often comes to gambling to bet on gambling and I cannot forbid anyone from calling me a gambler.
But sometimes someone not comfortable being called a gambler because usually they only bet on sports betting and they think that sports betting is not a gambler and considers people worthy of being called a gambler when betting on casino games.
I understand this case but for me, placing a bet anywhere still a gambler.

If that doesn't fit you then you can change the term and call yourself in any title that you are good to take. Maybe, something as a bettor? Is that going to give you some light feelings about doing some gambling activities and still won't be called as a gambler? IMO, it's not a big problem whether someone will address me as a gambler, a bettor or whatever they prefer. But just as you're saying OP, if we don't like being addressed like that and we have our own definitions, you do you.

Technically, that's true. But if it's just for the word placing or call out, you can call whatever you wish to but it won't change the fact that you're gambling, you're betting and staking your money with any gambling activities that you are doing. Progress in life is step by step, we don't rush into doing what we think will harm us, because everything have advantages and disadvantages. Our lives can be better only when we do what we think is right, we bring on the best of our abilities to equipped ourselves to become the winning mindset. For me, that is the simplest answer. Another answer could be if you gamble frequently, then you are a gambler, if you do gambling as a source of income, you are a gambler. If you gamble full-time and source of income to feed your family, you are definitely a gambler.

If you don't feel any good to be called that in public then maybe hide your activities to public so they don't know or get any leads regarding on your gambling activities.  And since you are a tester then I guess you are not in a category which we can called a gambler since maybe you just try to figure out how things work and trying to enjoy it so maybe the right thing to be called on type of people like that is adventurous.

Since if you are a gambler for sure this paying on a casino is part of your daily activities and you can risk whatever amount you have for the sake of enjoyment. But everyone have different interpretation regarding on this and we can't argue to people on what they want to call us. If they call you a gambler without knowing the real score better ignore them or just simply ride the conversation since for sure they would stop if they see you not affected on words they are calling to you.

Well, if you remain anonymous you are still a gambler. A gambler is a gambler. I am happy gambling and calling me a gambler doesn`t piss me. Yeah! that`s what I do.
