He's probably too far gone right now, but there's still something you can do to save him. Mere words will no longer help the guy, but being consistent about your advices will. I am confused by the guy in your story. Does he have financial troubles or does he just spend his disposable income on gambling? Because those two situations are completely different. If he pays all his bills, has money for food, rent and so on, then is it considered a problem to waste all his disposable income on some activity like gambling?
