The simple truth is that without our discretionary income, buying bitcoin can't be called investing, you won't be able to hold it for long so anyone who thinks that they should start buying without figuring out their discretionary income or without at the very least having an idea of how much of the income will most likely become discretionary isn't an investor but rather a trader who is chasing after quick profit.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to increase our discretionary income and if we can cut down on our expenses to increase our discretionary income then the better for us, but we can also work to increase our income which can also help to increase our discretionary income as well, there is no need to start buying beyond what our discretionary income can handle.
Personally I think it is about investing without being bothered or pressured because discreationary income makes you not to feel any pressure while investing in Bitcoin reason being that you are investing with what is left after you have carter for your basic needs, it means the funds you are investing with might not be be needed for anything, so it give you peace of mind to invest without having any unrest in your mind, that is the reason why discreationary income is the ideal funds that should be invested in Bitcoin to enable hodlers hodl for a long-term without being indecisive at some point to withdraw, as for increasing our discreationary income is not a bad idea, if only we can.

The long-term stability of an investment depends on the type of money you have invested in and your mindset. If the money is urgent money that may be needed at any moment, then you will definitely not be able to hold this investment for the long term, rather your investment period will be until the moment you need it.
However, I must also say that there are many who invest through discretionary income after meeting their needs, but even after that they cannot tolerate the volatility of the market, in this case their mindset needs to be fixed first. If you do not have the mental capacity to tolerate the risk of investment, then you can never expect anything good from this investment.
That is why mental capacity is needed before financial capacity. Prepare your mindset first to keep your long-term investment consistent even in this volatility, and after that you think about your financial affairs, we have to think in all cases, you are capable from one day but weak from another, then this weakness can be the reason for your investment failure.

In terms of investment, it is more important than the amount of money you are investing and ensuring that it will not be needed later. If you invest after meeting the necessary expenses, that investment does not affect our personal daily life. In addition, even during a temporary price drop, the investor is less likely to panic and sell. If someone invests with money that he may need in a very short time, then the price fluctuation creates fear and frustration of losing money. Therefore, one should invest with money that can be kept intact for a long time. And in addition to ensuring investment from discretionary income, it is necessary to create emergency funds and other funds that make it possible to hold the investment for a long time by dealing with unexpected situations. When an investor makes a decision while maintaining his financial plan and stability, he can naturally invest comfortably. Therefore, it is reasonable to invest from the remaining money by prioritizing daily needs rather than investing at risk.

You are not far from the truth or should I just say that you are correct. I have always advocated that for someone to decide to invest in bitcoin, you must have a steady income because I feel that makes it easy for the investor. When you have a steady income, you can easily plan yourself by taking out ther expenses and know what is left for discretionary income, which you can use for bitcoin investment.  I believe that this makes it easier for any investor and it also allows you to be consistent in bitcoin accumulation.

A stable income is not necessary to invest in Bitcoin, rather a person with a volatile income can also invest. The income that is required to invest is a source of discretionary income. If a person is able to find a discretionary income through proper financial management, then he can definitely invest.

There are many people whose source of income is not stable but they are able to find a discretionary income through proper financial management and continue to invest continuously, again there are many people whose income is stable but they are not able to manage their financial situation properly and are failing to find a source of discretionary income. However, yes, there are some people whose income is less or more but they fail to manage their money properly or reduce the amount of expenses, such people need to move forward with what they have.

I don't still understand what you mean by volatile income am just getting to hear about it for the first time, well investing in bitcoin doesn't necessarily mean that one must have a stable income no but having a stable income or source of income is also good because it will help you to get your discretionary income to keep buying bitcoin for a long time what really matters most is been able to figure out your discretionary income after you have put other necessary needs in place what is left is actually what that can be used to buy bitcoin which is your discretionary income because it's from it you will also get your emergency funds to keep a long time bitcoin investment.

Another thing I feel investors can do to generate discretionary income is , if the salary arrives, they can remove 5%-10% (depending on their situation) of the money at first. Then the 90%-95% of the remaining balance can then go into bills after proper budgeting and tracking spendings. And something spare cash can still remain, therefore they can add it to the initial money the kept at first. This way, they learn to work with the money they have available.. Reason why  I brought this idea, is that some people  receive their paycheck, and they will spend everything on both important and unimportant bills/expenses leaving no room for discretionary income, it happens sometimes though, especially when there's no proper budgeting. They can work with the 5%- 10% cash left as their discretionary income, at times some might deduct 2% out of it for another type of savings.

‎After someone has successfully figured out their discretionary income, the important thing needed is their consistency. If an investor doesn't possess the attributes of consistent accumulation, the amount of Bitcoin they will posses will be little.  Alot of guys who has big amount of discretionary income still ends up with low stash because they are not consistent ;they buy once in a blue moon. One thing I have noticed is that many people focus more on the amount they can invest rather than building the discipline to keep accumulating.

If we haven't made sure that our basics expenses have been taken care of or haven't been able to figure out our discretionary income from our earnings (for salary earners) then it's not realistic to rush into investing in bitcoin, it's very important for us make sure to keep our investment within a tolerable range from our discretionary income, this is because aside from buying bitcoin there are other things we do with our discretionary income such as setting up our backup funds and also for our discretionary consumptions, if we become recklessly aggressive then we might cut in on what's meant for them as well.

my belief is that most times life does not come with such guarantees or level of assurance, certainty or control. Meaning you must not be able to tick all those boxes you mentioned above correctly before you should start investing. Sometimes it also has to do with our mindset or psychology. Particularly for salary earners, you are hardly satisfied with what you earn to the point of running into debts sometimes with the mindset that you can always pay back when your salary lands. Does it mean that investing is not for those who have little money from their salary? I don’t think so. I believe that yes the salary might be meager but there is a way you can still adjust your lifestyle to fit into what you can afford and even spare some for your discretionary income then it makes sense and that’s usually very uneasy for most people. So if you ever picked interest in investing in bitcoin, the first question that should come to your mind is, how’s my lifestyle as related to my expenses, how can I adjust to be able to save for discretionary income and others, how long can I cope with that? Now a honest and thought provoking answer to those questions will really help to determine if you can invest in Bitcoin or not, particularly through the DCA approach which is the most practical approach in this manner.

You misinterpreted what @The Founding Titan said just to score cheap points, he never said that only those collecting big salary should invest or everything has to be perfect before they start. Of course, someone with small income can still invest if they manage their finances well. But the amount should come from money that is not needed for basic living expenses.

Changing your lifestyle to create more discretionary income is a good idea, but that should happen before increasing your Bitcoin allocation, not after. If someone has to sacrifice essential expenses, rely on debt or ignore the need for backup funds just to continue buying Bitcoin, then the investment has stopped being sustainable. Long term success in Bitcoin is noy just about buying; it's also about making sure you can keep buying without putting your finances under unnecessary pressure
Making an investment outside your discretionary income isn't an investment again that is gambling because such person can't hodl his Bitcoin for long, any one who has not yet figure of if they have discretionary income shouldn't go and invest in Bitcoin because you are using money that is meant to take care of your basic needs to invest in Bitcoin which is considered to be wrong, in summary NO DISCRETIONARY INCOME NO BITCOIN INVESTMENT. Until you have seen you have some discretionary income before you can start accumulating Bitcoin.

Karma Is An Imaginary Cope For The Weak

It can be a mistake to assume that a predetermined percentage of your total income is automatically investable. Allocating a certain percentage of your income to Bitcoin may seem disciplined to you at the beginning. But you need to determine whether that percentage is your discretionary income at all. If you earn $1,000, 20 percent of it does not become discretionary income. Your essential expenses may be $600, but someone else's essential expenses with the same income may be $950. In this case, if both of you invest 20 percent of your income, then naturally the second one may be forced to sell when the next necessary expense arises.

So it may not be right to determine the percentage of investment by income. Instead, you should probably first cover rent, food, medical care, family responsibilities, debt, and immediate necessities. The money that is left over and can be left untouched for a long time can be your discretionary income. It may be 20 percent of your income at one time, or 5 percent at another month. Or it may be that there may be no discretionary income at all.

Two people who are earning $3,000 a month might seem like they are equal to themselves on the outside, but if person A monthly expenses takes up let’s say $2200, they’re gonna have $800 left to make decisions with.

If person B monthly expense is $2900, they’re gonna have only $100 left.

If they’re both told to invest 20% of their income, they’d have to put in about $600 but that amount can mean different things for each of them.

For one person it could be a manageable investment amount, for the other it could mean them using money that is meant for important expenses and eventually they’ll become forced to sell their bitcoin when life happens.

So if one invests all of discretionary income without keeping some for backup funds, when emergency situations happen, you’ll be forced to sell some of your bitcoin at an unwanted time.

You're right, and that is the reason why it is advised that we shouldn't go all-in because after paying our  expenses the leftover which is the (discretionary income) still have works to do because it is from our discretionary income that we get the money to build our emergency funds and backup funds, then it is after we must have figure out our emergency funds and backup funds that we  think of investing in bitcoin.  it  becomes the final consumer, the reason why I said it's like the final consumer is because once you put your money in your Bitcoin investment you can't get it back not until it's time for you to touch it unless you want to sell at Loss.

That is why we don't need to be in a hurry to invest our discretionary income because for the fact that we keep saying that guys only need discretionary income to invest in bitcoin doesn't mean that once you have it figured out then you quickly rush into investing, first you need to figure out your emergency funds and backup funds then  once this funds is been figured out, you have every right to go all-in because there is absolutely nothing to worry about. And this is not only done once but continuously as much as you are regularly buying Bitcoin that's the same way you will keep building your emergency funds and your backup funds.

Investing is part of discretionary income. Not part of basic expenses.

Sure, you can giver a high priority to investing, but you better make sure that you have enough money to cover your needs before you invest.  That is basics 101.

I am not going to argue that you cannot curtail your needs to a great degree so that you are living minimally on basics, yet even if you cut your basic needs down to nothing or near nothing, you still are using discretionary income to invest and you cannot reclassify investing as part of your basic needs because it is not.  By definition investing is for future needs (and/or future wants).  As far as covering needs go, the present needs take priority over future needs/wants..
What you said here is the actual fact sir. As long as am concern, investment is secondary, because it's only when an individual have eaten and already taken proper care of his basic needs he would be thinking of investing with whatever that is left.
Cutting cost of most basic expenses will only make you to live an uncomfortable life that will be unsustainable on the longer run, especially when done in excess, so taking proper care of our basic needs should be our priority, then anything that is left, which is our discretionary income is what we should be investing with.

Clearly, primary needs are something that should be prioritized because only with them will you survive and breathe.
I agree with you that investing is a secondary concern and shouldn't be forced if you feel you can't afford it. Investing also doesn't mean you have to lower your living expenses. One thing I'll say is that there's no pressure for anyone to participate in accumulation.

If, for example, all your living needs are met and you have discretionary funds remaining, then you can participate in accumulation. But ideally, if possible, prioritize your emergency fund first before starting.

I agree with you that investment is not a must in life, it depends entirely on you whether you are mentally ready or whether you have such a financial condition, you must ensure these things before investing. Since investment is a long-term matter, your financial condition is as important as your control over yourself. If you want to be an investor, you must be aware of your financial management. There is no such thing as investing with your necessary needs in excess, rather if you have the money left after meeting your necessary needs, you can decide to invest from there if you have such control over yourself.

It’s not really about being intentional, but it’s about being intentional with the right approach towards handling your bitcoin investment. Bitcoin investment is to be done with our discretionary income which comes from the money left with us after sorting out our basic needs. So you might not really assume how much percentage of your income will be allocated towards bitcoin investments when you’re yet to sort out your basic financial needs. For me, I don’t start by allocating a percentage of my income to invest in bitcoin, I first focus on sorting out my basic needs, and then any amount I’m left with which is my discretionary income of which I can then comfortably decide on how much of the discretionary income i can allocate towards bitcoin investments and how much I can allocate for other discretionary expenses. Investors basic needs should be prioritized first because without sorting out those basic needs  before investing in bitcoin, an investor will be forced to sell the same bitcoin holdings he bought just to sort out basic expenses when they start piling up and sometimes due to high volatility of bitcoin the investor might sell at a huge loss.
You really have a point. Discretionary income should be the starting point, immediately you are well taken care of basic needs. people should understand that bitcoin is a long term investment, and it only works when funds invested is not need for day to day living. once basic needs are sorted, then you can now decide how much to allocate to bitcoin based on your available balance. It may be 10% 50% or even 100% from your discretionary income but it doesn’t have to be the same for everyone. I think using this approach can reduce the chance of selling bitcoin. my opinion is that goal shouldn’t be to invest higher percentage, but to invest funds that investor can sustain consistently over a long period.

it's  no lie that investing should come from discretionary income and that present needs should come first. But I don't fully agree with the idea that people  only invest for future wants.

I see long term bitcoin investing as more than just  saving for future wants. Because different people invest  for  various reasons other than just for future wants,  it may be to preserve their purchasing power, build long term wealth, or may be  preparing for retirement. and  not just  for optional wants.

And the approach still remains the same first you take care of your financial needs then invest using only discretionary income this approach protect investors from both present financial needs and long term goal.

Not having a stable income shouldn't stop anyone From investing in bitcoin. Those without a stable income can only be accumulating bitcoin whenever they have their discretionary income to do so. However, I won't say that it is not essential to have a stable source of income. For an investor to be able to be consistent with bitcoin accumulation there is need for them to stablise there source of income and this will also enable them to be able to hold bitcoin for a long term.
As for a newbie that doesn't have a stable income but has been able to figure out there discretionary they start accumlating bitcoin and works towards stablisng their income as they go continue with bitcoin accumulation.

You are absolutely correct and on the other hand whether stable source of income or not it does not really matter rather the most important thing is how consistent an investor can be. if you have a stable source of income and you are not consistent in your bitcoin accumulation, your portfolio will not grow well and then if someone has unstable source of income and they are consistent in their bitcoin accumulation surely they will do better than the investor with a stable source of income that is not consistent. therefore, consistency is what really matters.

In Bitcoin investment, consistency is the key, many people have stable income, but they do not have consistency in their investments, and this is why their investments do not prosper. And the most important thing is that if you want to completely ignore the regular volatility of the market, then you must first be prepared for consistent investment, otherwise volatility will have a negative impact on your investment.
If you invest in small amounts consistently rather than investing large amounts of money at once, this consistency will create the possibility of bringing better results for you. Moreover, investing large amounts of money at once also reduces the mentality of ignoring market volatility, whereas if you maintain the consistency of investment, volatility will not seem like a big problem to you. And if you continue in this way for a long time, your investment portfolio will be better built at an average price, which creates a better chance of success.

first thing is having a discretionary income and the next is how you use it. You can invest with discretionary money and still have problems when you don’t use it well.
Know this, discretionary income isn’t just for investing, it’s also for creating your backup funds which includes the emergency and reserves funds.

Investors must not wait until they figure out the emergency funds before they can start buying bitcoin if their discretionary income is ready. Yes, the discretionary income is what is needed for an investor to invest in bitcoin, if you truly are desirous to invest in bitcoin, even though the discretionary income is not only restricted towards investing in bitcoin alone as you can also use it for other of your discretionary spendings. But for an investor of bitcoin, the priority should be placed more on your bitcoin investment rather than other discretionary spendings which are not really basic needs. it is left for every investor to decide how much of their discretionary income they can allocate towards buying bitcoin and how much of it they will want to allocate for building up emergency funds and other back up funds. But the truth is, an investor only needs a discretionary income to start investing In bitcoin, and they must not wait until they figure out the emergency funds before they can start accumulating bitcoin and hold, they can swing into action immediately with accumulating bitcoin provided it is their discretionary income they’re using to accumulate bitcoin, and then can decide on how much to allocate towards emergency and other back up funds as they are ongoingly buying bitcoin.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to "non-custodial"

As far as covering needs go, the present needs take priority over future needs/wants..
it's  no lie that investing should come from discretionary income and that present needs should come first.

To be clear, I said that investing is for future wants/needs.  I did not refer to investment as only being for future wants. You are being nit-picky about something that ends up being your own wrong understanding of what I had posted.

1) Self-Custody is a right.  Resist being labelled as: "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k
