Exactly that's really a bad advice, if we are worried about we might forget our password on some sites that we are registered and have balance there then make sure that we write this details on notebook or anywhere you can access it.
You can write it down on paper or use password managers or store it in an encrypted file. Don't store it online and on your accounts like email, social media, cloud storage.

All of your accounts have risk to be hacked so if you store your passwords in an account that is hacked, you will lose all.

It is far from passwords, to secure your accounts, there is 2FA option too. My warning is don't install 2FA on a same device that you use to login many applications and accounts like emails, exchanges and more.

Sometimes "forgetting" is a very human thing, and this often happens. However, because we are in the online world and this can be anticipated, we should be able to consider this possibility. And from then on, we can prepare it as well as possible to avoid the possibility of forgetting things. one of them is forgetting the password.

hence, data backup is best. I personally have never once entered a password when opening an account, whatever it is, without writing it down or backing it up. Because I personally feel like I often forget. Therefore, there must be a data backup and I remember where to save it and it is safe. And this is very necessary in various ways. Otherwise we have to enter or reset the password which may take time and also be a long and troublesome process.

We can forget our passwords that's why we need to have back ups.

Back ups can be lost or unusable too because of many reasons. This raises another concern that we need to have multiple back ups. It helps us to increase chance that we always have usable back ups to use and reduce risk that we will forget our password and lose backups then no longer be able to recover our passwords and accounts.

<…> I usually prefer my password as something which is very personal to me as it would be easy to remember instead of having a complicated pasword and forgetting it and resetting it everytime.
As far as my account on the forum goes (and for the most, yet not all), I haven’t got a clue as to the password I’m using … By that I mean that It is randomly generated and stored by my password manager, and since I only access my Bitcointalk account from a laptop, it’s pretty easy to operate without having to remember the password (which, were I to remember it, may not be that great per se).

Then there are the logical offline backups of the password manager to cover contingencies, plus the forum provides 2FA for those that wish to activate it. Of course there’s also the staked bitcoin address which is a way to facilitate the account’s recovery, which is kind of a failsafe if all goes wrong.
That’s some position to be in and still maintain some level of calm, given the times you’ve been around and how much value you could have gotten on this account.
Don’t you really feel the need to be well aware of what password it is? I get the idea of how secure it would be, having zero relations to any guesses being randomly generated but other means to security means having to be able to reproduce it when all other odds fails and it’s dependent on you and what you could remember.

Machines do break down you know, there should be some means and
Do 2FA really validates a password when not in place? Because I just feel it’s a second means to security and that’s it.

When you are using the internet you need to have three or four Strong passwords and if you registering any important site, you use any of the password and when you forget the password at any occasion, you tried the three passwords and definitely one must open if really you use any of them. There are three important websites passwords one need not to forget the matter what.
There should not be a limit to the number of passwords one should have, because as long as you are on the internet, you are going to have accounts across different platforms and websites. Remember that you ought to use a unique password all the time and should never reuse passwords, that is why you should either write your passwords down on paper or you use a password manager to keep all your passwords.
Quote
Always use a familiar password so that you won't forget.
Passwords should be strong and difficult to brute force and not simple or easy to remember.

why would someone make an account over here with some random mails even without having to store their password safe, or even have to make account without a real mail what does this shows inteligent of stupidity. Like it's very bad seeing someone making account with fake details and forgotten that one day for sure they must needs their original mails password to have access to restore their accounts. Usually i love the current implementation by theymos for putting 2fa account, this will eliminate account hack or sales.

It is just funny to see this kind of scenario which is not a good attempt anyone that wants to stay secured without further issues that is going to be delimma for people that are used to creating fake or too many accounts.
The 2FA is a good way that will help reduce account theftand help us to stay safe from people that are good at hacking or compromisimg someone else account. I hope many will see this as an advise that will help them to stay focused.

People are too lazy in terms of password and storing personal information especially when it's not on hard copy. I have a friend of mine who has been disturbing to join here for very long time, though I don't really know if he has joined but back then he is a kind of person that doesn't take something so serious. Everything is for a joke, like even when he creates facebook account and login maybe after using it on the process and he logged out what he would do is to call you to remind him about his password he uses his hand to set on his facebook account.
So, this made me feels that no matter how the forum tries to be simple there are people who would still lose access to their account that is it, it's something inseparable in human, at least having this kinds of people around the world makes us complete. Just as we have mad people in real life so it's in every place and without them the world isn't complete.

Personally I have suffer some issues with email password and accessing my school portal, that has thought me a lesson that I can't forget easily hence I always make sure my passwords are not understandable by anyone apart from me.

I also have a diary where I write all my passwords, to every account I have ever created, I wrote them down, believing that I will not forget the password but yet I have to be sure incase the other wise happens.

This a very big issue that is been neglected by many as long as they don't have any money here in the forum, it's just an account if it gets hacked they will create another one without knowing what could happen if your account is being accessed by hackers, so it's very important that we save guard our logins, whether it's our forum logins or any other accounts it's very important to have them backed up in a save place.

<…> Don’t you really feel the need to be well aware of what password it is? <…>
Not really. I’ve only got a very few passwords committed to memory, and Bitcointalk’s is not one of them. If worst comes to worst, I could always regain access through my staked bitcoin address (or PGP key), and if I lose access to that, then accessing the forum will be a lesser problem. 2FA, as you mention, is an additional safety feature when enabled (not a password alternative).

I recall, in another scenario, a password of mine being shown to me from a certain data breach. Keeping distinct not-guessable passwords per site is something I try to do since then, even if it requires the aid of a password manager + backups of the manager database.

Passwords should be given using words that are always remembered. If more than one password is used for multiple accounts, there is a possibility of forgetting the password, so a user should always use a specific password for all accounts. If users use certain passwords for all accounts, chances of them being forgotten will be very low. Besides using a specific password, the password must be stored in an important place while opening the account so that even if the password is forgotten in the future, the password can be used later from that saved place. If the password is not saved, it will be seen that if the password is forgotten at some point, the password of all these accounts cannot be recovered.

What I am saying is that, those of us that are using an email address that we have forgotten the password or don't have access to the password, should go and create a new emails address and change it with the old one, so that incase you forget your password or don't have access to your bitcointalk account, you will not be worried, as you can just use your email to login to your Bitcointalk account with ease, because a link will be sent to that email from the admin here, which gives you access to change your password and login.
The challenge is that for some users, the email address used in opening the forum is invalid, so whenever they lose or forget their login details (password), their account goes dormant because they are unable to log back in. Tell newbies who are interested in opening forum accounts to always use a valid email address that is active to avoid future problems.

Try not to save any password in your head, because it is a big risk but write it down in a notebook, and back it up so that when you misplace wherever you wrote your password down, you can reach out for the back ups.
An easy password can easily be kept in memory. You do not have to use complicated passwords that you think will make your account more secure.

Even without jotting it down I have my password off hand, I have a specific password that I use. However I think the reason why most people easily forget their password is because they use different password in different account, dey  don't have a specific password. Most people think that using different password in different account will make the account to be secured, without knowing that they're making a very big mistake.

My advice is to never save information about passwords on your computer or laptop because the risk of losing it when the device restarts for various reasons is quite large

I have experienced this myself, I no longer remember the password from Gmail that I created for my BTT account, that's because I save all the info about Gmail and its password on my computer device

Passwords should be given using words that are always remembered. If more than one password is used for multiple accounts, there is a possibility of forgetting the password, so a user should always use a specific password for all accounts. If users use certain passwords for all accounts, chances of them being forgotten will be very low.
Terrible advice to say the least, your password should be strong and difficult to brute force/guess, not simple and easy to remember. Don't use the same password acrosss multiple accounts, if someone finds out what your password is, they would be able to get access to all your accounts. Always use unique and strong passwords, you don't have to remember them, use a password manager or write down your passwords.

Even without jotting it down I have my password off hand, I have a specific password that I use. However I think the reason why most people easily forget their password is because they use different password in different account, dey  don't have a specific password. Most people think that using different password in different account will make the account to be secured, without knowing that they're making a very big mistake.

This is very stupid here. Did you know that your password, which you can store in your head, even if you think it is very complex, will be very easy for hackers to hack? Having different passwords is important for your security above all else. Using one password for all the places you visit, if accidentally discovered on one site, exposes all other places you value to hacking. Therefore, it is necessary to separate all passwords from each other, but of course, know how to use them. There are several reliable password managers that can keep your passwords safe. But even if you don’t trust such software, storing passwords outside the device in a safe place will also be correct.
Yes, it may be a little hectic, but it’s better than losing your accounts or money.

"The most expensive thing on earth is human stupidity. Because you have to pay very dearly for it."

In as much as this topic seems to be of something everyone know about it is also very relevant we talk about it and I think it a good thing you created a thread like this. I have been a victim of forgetting password severally, like I will say I don’t have a retentive memory and I was really struggling with how to put an end this very problem I was facing then.

So what I did was I picked up a name my girlfriend tho she is my Ex now and I decide it will be my password to every account or forum I was creating or was already engaged in,  and if the password requires me to add a number to it I will just add the jersey number my favorite football player was wearing. So since then it really helped me because I actually stopped struggling with remembering my passwords. So all I’m actually saying is that if u could pick a single password for all your account you will actually stop forgetting your passwords.

The importance of having a verified email in your bitcoin talk account is because the management of this community of Bitcointalk today to reinstalled the users of this community through their email verification and if you don't have a valid email that carries or linked to your account, I believe that you will totally lost your bitcoin talk account so it is good to use a verified email to register your account, even though you have not used a verified email to register account you you can change the email and use a verified one before there will be issue or replacement will come in the community of bitcoin talk

This post is very important and very cautionary for those who have an account in the forum. Every member in the forum will see while logging in that there is an option called forget password. If the password is forgotten in the case of using other apps or other services, it is possible to set up a new password through forget password, but even if there is a forget password option in the forum accounts, it does not work at all. Those who think that it doesn't matter if they remember the password or not, because they can forget it later and get it back again, this is their wrong idea. There is no problem in changing the password of the account multiple times while having access to the account, but if a user forgets the password, the password cannot be recovered. So new members who are and who are planning to open an account must give a password that they will always remember and note that password in the diary.

So tell me if you have had such experience of not being able to login to your Bitcointalk forum account due to password issues, and how did you feel about it. Let's discuss.
Securing passwords is one of the most important aspects of the crypto space, because as far as I know there's no central office that can help you to recover it, so the security of your gaining accesses is in your hands. The importance of securing your wallets seed phrase, bitcointalk passwords and email passwords can not be overemphasized, because if you lose them, that can be a permanent lose.

My personal experience was when my smart phone that I used to access the forum was stolen, I remember my forum account password but i didn't remember the password of the email that I specially created for this forum. Anyways when got the Bitcointalk Link to access the forum, I was very relieved when I was given an option to us my other email address, I accepted and could log in through chrome.
