Is Gambling A Hobby?

First of all I will like to define hobby in my own understanding. Something that one like to do always either for pleasure, leisure or entertainment. And example of hobbies which I know. Swimming which can be a game as well, reading which can also be a competition as " reading competition", and anything competition is a game, and sport. Sport can be someone hobby if the person love sports and like to partake in it. And that means something you partake that you have leisure and pleasure can be your hobby.

Why I brought this topic because someone told me here that https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5491756.msg63928115#msg63928115 gambling is not a hobby and from my viewpoint gambling can be a hobby for the addicted gamblers and that argument made me to do some research and I also came up with this Gambling can be a harmless hobby or a serious addiction. and also from another source again Gambling as a hobby is legitimate so long as it starts of as and remains a hobby, which means self-control in order to pursue a satisfactory result with a limited budget
And lot more.

Upon all those sources and explanation, I still need the community input on the argument to know if gambling is a HOBBY so that I and the person will understand more.

A hobby is something you like doing. Some people just like to gamble. Gambling can be a hobby. You are right. But someone that see gambling as a hobby should be very careful and avoid addiction because as some people are thinking it is a hobby, they are getting addicted and wasting money unnecessary on gambling.

There are people who take gambling as a form of entertainment, yet they are not addicted. The fact that gambling is part of something you like does not automatically mean that you'll have to do it all the time. There are also those who consider gambling a hobby and yet don't go to their account for more than four days (and also those we might classify as addicts who can't control their urge).

By the way, this topic is sure going to be a long one.

Gambling can be categorized as a hobby, and I feel that by myself.
Even though I dont actively gamble like before, sometimes I still gamble on sports or slots when I have an extra money that I can spend to gamble.
Maybe other people will say its not a hobby but a gambling addiction, I dont gamble every day and I never think about how to get money to gamble for today, tomorrow or next week etc.
So if someone says that gambling cannot be categorized as a hobby = that person is probably new to the world of gambling, or has never gambled at all.

Gambling is too broad but maybe one can just point out that playing poker is a hobby that they play with their family members in their leisure time.

I'm not sure what you may come up with when you determine what the community thinks of gambling being a hobby. But to me, it's just a personal choice. If a person thinks its a hobby to watch naked girls using his binoculars to the windows of there next building, it's his personal choice.

This depends on one's purpose in playing gambling because it will change the perspective on the behavior we do in gambling whether it is made as a place to look for victory or to make money, the initial thinking will change the view in my opinion.
For me personally gambling is a hobby that I can control when and where I will do it, sometimes I need it sometimes not, just like hobbies in other fields such as playing soccer, chess, playing games and others when we want and are able to do it.
Different people who seek money in gambling cannot be said to be a hobby because it can be considered that those who have such goals inevitably they will do gambling which is a demand within themselves to do gambling to get more money from gambling, whether they like it or not they feel they have to do gambling because of that interest.
So this is subjective, various people will view it differently and we can distinguish how a person considers gambling a hobby or not depending on the purpose of why gambling is done. But I'm pretty sure people are just looking for fun and they only treat gambling as a hobby.

Yes someone can have more that one hobby and any number you need. This your question indicates that you are still a very young person in the forum. And you have not prepared Curriculum Vitae (CV), if not you would have known hobby in your CV. As I explained in the Op, things you like doing to have happiness so when preparing your CV, you put all the things you are doing as Sport or others as hobby.

Sir your examples are going out of point. You can be on the track by saying yes or no then you can give small explanation and not picking shells or gambling is a broad event. Here I only asked if gambling is a hobby and you can narrow all your broadness of gambling to say no or yes. I don't know if you really understand the content. Hobby is not a matter of choice but something that is in you. And once you are doing it it automatically becomes a hobby whether knowingly or unknowingly, it is an hobby in you. If you are not doing that thing then it is not your hobby. So remove choice from hobby. I made some clear explanations and links in the Op. Yes of course gambling is a hobby. Just as the name implies "hobby" Is what ever we like doing frequently that gives us joy just as you have describe about different types of hobby like drinking, smoking, drug addiction etc. Gambling is a hobby because anything you are doing that gives you joy whenever you do it, needs to be considered as hobby. So gambling is a hobby. People spend alot of money and dedicate their time playing gambling hoping to win alot someday.

It can be. It depends on your understanding of it.

The way I see it, a hobby is something that we treat as hobby. I'll give you an example. Someone can be a mechanic at work and spend 8 hours a day fixing cars, but you can be a mechanic after work. You can be a lawyer and spend 8 hours a day at court, then you go home and rebuild an old car because you like it. For one person the same thing can be a job, while for someone else it can be a hobby.

Gambling definitely fits a description of a hobby when you have fun doing it and are a casual gambler who feels relaxed after a game of blackjack or a few rounds of slots.

Everyone has what they like and what they can call their hobbies, so this is indeed an arguable fact. What you see as a hobby is something that I might not even consider to be a hobby any day. 
 
Gambling is something that people do to pass time and have fun; most people do it to escape boredom and spend all their free time there, so such people can as well say gambling is part of their hobby.
 
On the other hand, we can also argue that those who see gambling as a hubby might, if not already, turn out to be one if they don't look for a new hubby soon.

It can very well be,yet for hobby I know something that people love to do daily and if a person likes to gamble daily it also means that this person has big chances of falling into addiction.I know there are quite a lot of persons that say that they have an allocated budget and they never overdo it,yet the emotions cannot be controlled so it means that gambling in its core is a very dangerous hobby if we classify it as a hobby.

That is why I would not recommend to someone who asks me to find a hobby for him,to tell him just start gambling,I would say learn a new skill,go outdoors,go in daily journeys exploring the country or something along those lines but never to recommend someone to a hobby that has chances of making one's life miserable for real.

Nevertheless, we do not get to impose on other that gambling is a hobby if they do not share in our perspective. For them gambling could be any of the above activity in the list and that is perfectly fine. We cannot gate-keep what gambling is for others, we can only do it for ourselves.

Firstly it would necessary we understand what hobby really is before we relate it to gambling.
Hobby is any activity carried out by someone during his leisure or free time for pleasure and loves doing it. Gambling will be a hobby for someone who loves to gamble, so it won't be wrong to say the hobby of that person is gambling.

For me, betting based on liking certain types of games can be said to be a hobby. I like sports games like football. On the basis of being interested and liking every match I watch, I place bets to complete my enjoyment. Who knows, I might get lucky from the analysis I make on several matches at once.
This does not apply to all types of gambling games outside of sports games. Therefore, for me it is right to gamble as a hobby.

At first before we can quote each others wrongly on this process let us first look at 'what is gambling' and I quote "Gambling is the wagering of something of value on a random event with the intent of winning something else of value, where instances of strategy are discounted. From this two explanation there is no similarity between them, hobby is not a game of chance where you put money and get a particular thing in return as profits or gain.

Most times people take hobby for gambling or even gambling for hobby there are two distinct things, you can be reading without staking and putting any money in it, you can run within your house or field that surrounds you without staking money for it is hobby, you can travel to any country of your choice without staking money is hobby. Hobby can only to turns gambling when someone keeps doing it for the purpose of winning money by chances or luck.

I agree and I see it as a hobby too but for others, it is not. It could be a side hustle or a full time job for them. We do not get to tell grown assed adults what it should be for them. They make the decisions and live with the consequences.
