Simply put, a hobby is something that someone likes to do regularly, if you like running then your hobby is running, if you like swimming then your hobby is swimming. It's the same with gambling, but what really matters isn't whether gambling is a hobby or not, but rather the output of this activity.

1. Be a healthy gambler who knows the risks and is able to control self with management.

2. Becoming a problem gambler who can't control self which has a negative impact on the environment and family.

Hobby is the thing that you are always do such what mentioned above. But most of the time there's s a chance that our hobby is more than 1-3 cause we have different perspective in mind. Also the best thing is that we need to control ourselves. Like for example our hobby is gambling we are currently gamble around 2times a day which is very good to consider as hobby but if we go beyond that limitations then it's called addiction so we need to co teol ourselves to continue our hobby cause once it will become an addiction then a lot of circumstances we encountered.

If gambling is considered a hobby, we should get pleasure from betting, but instead we will experience losses, thus gambling cannot be widely interpreted as a hobby. Talking about hobbies, it is clear that we get pleasure from the activities we do and is it possible that we can get pleasure when we experience losses in gambling.

Gambling can be a hobby, why not? One of the things I have learned along the way is that every hobby costs money... the more we do something, the more we want to be involved, we will spend more money on that. It can be anything, from building different models, fishing, some sports, gaming, or simply deciding to spend some money on gambling. The hobby is something we do and spend money on because we enjoy doing it... so I guess many of us here enjoy spending money on gambling, for us spending some money on slots is better than spending money on buying some game/fishing rod/ or tires for a car.

Of course, it's good (great) when we have enough money for different hobbies. It's a privilege I think, some can combine different hobbies and some people need to choose one because there's not enough money for others.

Gambling can be anything you want it to be for you. It can be a hobby if you see it solely as a form of entertainment. People sometimes see gambling as a medium to relax and have some fun just like watching movies and sports games. Such a set of gamblers gamble with what they can afford to lose because they are not focusing on making money from the activity. Most people who see gambling as a side hustle or source of income don't usually see gambling as a hobby because their focus is on making money.

Gambling as a hobby ain't all bad.  Sure, most folks nowadays work themselves to death and got no time for hobbies that bring them joy.  But unwinding after work by placing a few wagers here and there can be a fine way to let off steam, long as thats not the only way you get your jollies.  I mean any hobby done to excess can turn from fun to destructive right quick.  Moderation in all things, I always say.

A steady income don't automatically lead to responsible gambling.  There's tons of people who blow their paychecks at the casino after a long week.  You got it right - self-control is key.  Although, with a little luck, you can bypass the whole job thing altogether! (Just kidding... mostly.)

First of all I will like to define hobby in my own understanding. Something that one like to do always either for pleasure, leisure or entertainment.

I guess you can add "stress free" to this definition as there is no hobby I know of that causes stress to anyone...and btw for anybody that is having a losing run  from gambling can never enjoy losing money and this disqualifies it from being called a hobby!!!!

Coming to think of it, most hobbies if not all hobbies I know of  out there have turned out to be  professions....which means if we have gambling as a profession for some people, then this can easily be called a hobby too as  people involved love what they do and have fun doing it...

If one treats gambling as a form of entertainment, it also means that they don't expect to earn a profit out of it, which is the root cause of addiction. Doing it at all times, can be subjective. It can also mean to do a thing 1 hour per day which is still fine and not considered as an addiction.

I thought addiction is mainly caused when one treats gambling as a means to earn passively or treat it as a source of their income which would therefore make them to start playing for profits/ chasing loses which results to addiction. If one treats gambling as purely for entertainment then it means that they would have control over it and the risk of them chasing their loses (which is the main cause of gambling addiction) would be reduced to the bare minimum.

For some people maybe they will say that gambling is their hobby, and others will say that it is their career, and others will say that it is where they build their network, etc. There are several reasons people gamble and why they gamble and usually it is not limited to just one reason. But whatever the reason, a person must gamble for fun, because after all gambling cannot be used as a place for someone to get rich quickly.

I do try to think of how people who see gambling as a career path think. Do they actually think they could make a real career out of gambling? Despite having series of losses and perhaps some few wins here and there, how can one remain convinced that you could actually make a career out of gambling. Do they actually plan to grow using gambling as a career?
It cannot be used as a medium to get rich quickly because that’s an unrealistic expectation from gambling. People unfortunately, still seem to think and see gambling as a means of making money.

I think taking gambling as a business is really a bad idea because you might turn out losing the money you actually want to use, gambling isn't something that is certain and that's why people are advice to play for fun although our human nature doesn't allow us to see a potential place where we can get profits from and then use it for only fun means and thats why many gamblers have keen in the decision to take their gambling habits s a means of business but I don't see myself doing this because I know of the crazy possibilities that follows that action.

Yes, for few people gambling is actually a type of hobby, but a hobby might not cause addiction while gambling could be highly addictive if someone spends more time gambling. If someone spends sometime with gambling and enjoy that time then it could be a good hobby. Yes, it's a hobby. Not everyone is a degenerate gambler, but I enjoy gambling every couple of months. Thankfully, it's never become a habit for me, but I can understand why people get deeply involved with it.

That said, I'm not a "high roller." When I gamble, I might bring $1,000 to $2,500 to the casino with the mindset that I expect to lose this money. If I lose, I lose; but if I win, then it's a good night.

Sorry but you are wrong, people to make money from their hobbbies, maybe you can show me a place where it is said or written that people arent supposed to make money from what ever they take as a hobby, then I possibly may have to reconsider my stand or opinion on this matter.

I've seen people who blog as a hobby, and are making money from it, I've seen people who trade as a hobby, and are making money from it, I've seen many who drive as a hobby, after their day job, they often would drive people around using platforms like Uber, bolt and so on, and they get paid for the service, people write as a hobby, and soon as they become really good, they are hired to write presentations and so on, and they get paid for it, let me even use your own example, people go fishing as a hobby, catch some really good fish and sell it and they make money.

It's exactly the same thing as gambling, there are those who gamble as a hobby, and making money from gambling does not take away the fact that gambling is just a hobby to them, there are times hobbies can even start paying a person far more than that persons job does, and the person will quit his or her to turn what was once a hobby into a real profession, example is bloggers, many big blogging site today started as a hobby for those who own them, and later on, they blog started brining in alot of money, then the owners quit their job to focus on blogging.
