Does anyone know what is going on with PowerGlove?
He is not so much active in forum these days, only six posts written in April and March.
As unofficial main forum developer, he is either working on some big update, or he is busy with other things.

Getting Merit Poker done in time for the April 1st deadline was tough (and explains my lack of availability leading up to and during March). I've been chilling/recovering at half power (no glove) for the last few weeks. Tongue

In all seriousness, I'm always watching Meta, and working on forum-related things, even when I'm not posting about it. For example, last week I noticed a discussion come up about the "Report to moderator" function and saw Xal0lex mention that the "Please note that your email address will be revealed to the moderators if you use this." part of the description is no longer accurate. Someone asked if that language might be putting people off, and Welsh said that he thought so (which is my feeling, too), so I put together a patch and sent it to theymos.

Say I'd like to share this post in another post, I would press the currently imaginary share / 🔗 button located somewhere in the header of the post (in the thread title, or next to the quote and edit buttons). Clicking it would then maybe present a small dialog allowing me to copy it in this format:
Code:
[url=https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5503118.msg65275936#msg65275936]Little things that bug you/me about the forum[/url]
That's a very nice suggestion, Cyrus! I've started work on it. Smiley

What other consequences exist here?
It's a whole thing... I'll put together my thoughts on this soon and either post them here or send you a PM. Wink

Nice suggestion indeed.

But isn't this icon a more intuitive share button?

I thought of another thing that would be good to improve on the forum. It actually concerns the notification bot more than the forum itself, but since they're closely connected, I’ll share the idea anyway.

When I get a notification that someone quoted my post, all such notifications look the same — whether it’s a direct quote of my post or a quote of someone else who had previously quoted me, added their own reply, and now someone is responding to them rather than to me.

There are no strict rules on the forum for formatting quotes (except for the rule against creating an entire cascade, which makes reading harder), so everyone formats them  as they see fit. This often leads to confusion about who the response is directed at — the original author who was quoted, or the last person in the quote chain.

I’m not sure how this could be separated for better clarity, and maybe I’m the only one this bugs, but I decided to share the thought anyway.

I guess it is none of our business.
This is the problem when someone gets too generous in a community.
When you have some issue in your real life or when you slow down a bit, your absence is noted and scrutinised.

The reality is nobody here is a professional, and even staff members aren’t required to be constantly online. (As far as I know)
Not that your message is particularly harsh or unpolite, or that I don’t share your concern, if I may, but this is a general consideration.

Can anyone help me by telling me something about which topics newbies can actually start from to do something good in the forum?
If you want to help the forum: read more, post less. Your post above for instance is off-topic. That doesn't help the forum.

Following some posts that were deleted recently, as rarely happens to me I hadn't noticed before, there is something in the message informing about the deleted post that bothers me a little.

The message does not say the topic from which the post was deleted:
Quote from: Bitcoin Forum
A reply of yours, quoted below, was deleted by a Bitcoin Forum moderator. Posts are most frequently deleted because they are off-topic, though they can also be deleted for other reasons. In the future, please avoid posting things that need to be deleted.

Quote
EDIT: Remove.

Where was the post deleted from? We don't know. I think it would be relevant to present this information.

Another case is when a post was deleted and merged with another post.
Quote from: Bitcoin Forum

[moderator's note: This post was deleted but its contents weren't. Due to a violation of either rule 21 or 32 (see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0) this post's contents were merged into the first post in a row you've made]

SERVICE STATUS
The situation is now completely normalized. I apologize for any inconvenience caused. Sometimes some maintenance is necessary, which occasionally generates instabilities.

I added the link in the OP to check TalkImg's uptime, so that everyone can always check the status of the service: https://talkimg.betteruptime.com/  Wink

OK, it says the information about the rule applied, but it doesn't say which post aggregated the deleted post.

So unless the person knows exactly where that post belongs, it's hard to find out.
I think this type of message should say the topic from which a post is deleted, as well as mention the day/time of the post. In the case of a merged post, it should include the link to the post that now includes the content.

Can the Post button and Preview button be more separated?

I don't know it any other person get bugged by this feature! as it's very easy for me to hit the post button when I just want to preview.

It occurs more when on mobile.

Whenever I want to preview my post on mobile, I simply zoom in and then tap on the "Preview" button without any problem.
And I do the same when I want to tap on "Reply", "Quote", "Merit" or some other buttons.

Can't you do the same thing, so that you don't tap on a wrong button?

@powerglove  is there  anything you can do some that others users can be able to identify banned accounts in the forum  easily, because sincerely speaking if I see banned accounts I can't identify them.

I've already added a suggestion for a helpful fix on meta, maybe adding some more information to the "Current Status" field can be of help

Hi @PowerGlove.

I have a suggestion. I don't know if this has been suggested before or not, but I'm still going to go ahead and suggest it. If you and others feel it's good, it should be implemented.

So, I recently created a thread in the Reputation board about a user who had applied in almost every single signature campaign in the Services section, even when they were all either CFNP or PAUSED. However, that's not the point here; the point is that the user who did that was actually changing the titles of most of the threads where he was applying by changing "[CFNP]" or "[PAUSED]" to "[OPEN]" to make his applications valid.

Similarly, right now, when I'm writing this post, I'm also adding some extra text "(By: PowerGlove)", in the Subject of this thread that you can see when I post this.

Now, I wonder why a poster is allowed to make changes in the Subject of a thread? I mean, if I have created a thread and chose a subject line for it, it should be only me who should be allowed to change that if I ever want to and not those who are going to post in my thread.

So, my suggestion is that when a poster is about to post something in a thread, or if they want to modify a post, the textbox in front of the "Subject:" should be closed for them, so that they don't get to make any changes in the subject when they are making a post. That textbox should only be available for the creator of the thread so that if the creator wants to make a change in it, they should be able to do it, but posters shouldn't be allowed to do that.

That's it. Let me know what you guys think. Smiley

That textbox should only be available for the creator of the thread so that if the creator wants to make a change in it, they should be able to do it, but posters shouldn't be allowed to do that.

That's it. Let me know what you guys think. Smiley
Your change of Subject here is only visible in your post, not in the topic listing of Meta.
P.S. Had to edit the Subject when I quoted you, because my quote reply inherited your change of Subject and I overlooked it first.

I don't like your proposal, as I sometimes "fix" the Subject deliberately when the OP has chosen a really bad Subject or I want to add an additional emphasis. I rarely do this, though.

The idiot who applied to a lot of signature campaigns by trying to fake them as [OPEN] is just plain stupid and earned his spot on every campaign manager's blacklist.

Frankly, I don't really see a point to disallow a change of the Subject by any poster when this change is limited to the user's own post, unless he's quoted and the quoter keeps the change. This doesn't update the Subject of the topic in the topics listing, this can only do the OP or moderators/admins.

Bro, I know that this doesn't change the title of the thread as a whole, and my suggestion wasn't about that. I suggested that no user other than the OP should be allowed to make any changes in the subject, even in their own post, because they are posting in someone else's thread, and they shouldn't have the right to make that change. The area that says "Re: Little things that bug you/me about the forum" is to show us the title of the thread we are in, and the thread is created by someone, so why should I be allowed to choose a different subject line for the same thread only in my post when that area is specifically to show the title and has nothing to do with my post at all since my post is shown in the body?

You, or anyone, might not like it, but I don't think it should be allowed. If you are posting in a thread, you should only be allowed to post, you shouldn't be allowed to make your post have a different subject than the one OP has chosen. If someone doesn't like a title, they can write about it in their post and ask the OP to change it.

While I'm typing this post, there's a Subject: field above it. That's the Subject of my post. If anything, you should wonder why most people don't use it, and why there's a default filled in already. I know the answer: it's quite convenient to leave it as is. But if I create a new post Subject, and you quote my post, you'll get the same Subject again (unless you change it).
It's a feature, not a bug.

I understood what you suggested initially and we may disagree, that's totally fine. I simply oppose your suggestion that the Subject of a topic should remain unchangeable for anybody else except the OP. You asked for opinions, you got mine. We don't need to find consensus.

Let me add another thought regarding consequences of your suggestion:
If the OP is the only one to define the Subject for the whole thread, I would assume that the Subject should change for every post in a topic when the OP updates the topic's Subject, no? (Of course, the Subject for any other poster could remain unchanged but does this makes sense when you allow the OP to update the Subject and nobody else can change the Subject?)

Now think about the following potential of abuse:
An OP posts a topic with some agreeable or interesting Subject. Other users chime in and post: Yay, I like your topic... totally agree... whatever...
Later the fictional malicious OP changes Subject to something really nasty and/or offensive and above assumed update mechanics is imprinted on any poster of the topic/thread. I definitely wouldn't want this.

That's already possible: with move topic (bottom-left), OP can Change the topic's subject and Change every message's subject.
