In this case. We can't do conclude that crypto was the full cause of him being fired... Though we know how banks are not buying the idea of cryptocurrency as it's more like a rival to them.. but then the employee was already becoming an addict.. he claims that he didn't gamble or let his gambling interfere with his work, how then were they able to find out that he plays on a casino? These things most times can be personal if we do keep them hidden.. he could have dropped his gambling habits at home and after work he can continue instead of creating more problems for himself...
This can also be the case. Knowing the employee is a habitual gambler, which could then be a threat to the company once his habit cannot be controlled, so the bank has to decide to let go of its employee before its addiction will end up causing harm into other employees or to the company itself. Gambling addiction can never be good for any person, most especially to the employer since they are paying well the employee to perform its job.

It has already been discussed earlier that the mention of cryptocurrency immediately creates negative associations with criminal activity in many people who are completely unfamiliar with it. So it all also depends on how a specific employer or even a judge, as you mentioned, treats cryptocurrency. And since the attitude of these people can be negative and they immediately associate such an employee with offenses and participation in illegal payments, then the decision to dismiss becomes quite natural.
And also the decision to reinstate in the position by a court decision, too.
It is a completely normal process when cryptocurrencies were previously presented on TV as something incomprehensible to people who are accustomed to traditional financial assets, and they also tried to denigrate them by saying that they are used for something bad. But we must not forget that the dollar is also used for something bad, but no one even talks about banning the dollar. If a fired employee had bet in dollars, he would also probably have been fired because gambling is prohibited in the workplace. In short, you can play, the main thing is that the employee was not noticed playing, lol.

However, I believe that this employee was unfairly detained and had the right to continue working. If a person is productive at work, he can do other things. Remember Dr. House and his bad manners, but he was productive! And isn't that the only thing required in the workplace? The main thing is to do your job well, and if the deadlines are not missed, then you can gamble or bet.
And there is a shortage of good workers in the world now.
This is absolutely fair.
And if the employee is really good, the employer will not fire him without a good reason. But I suspect that in this case the employer will even turn a blind eye to such an employee's passion for gambling or, for example, his desire to constantly post something on social networks, although all this, of course, distracts from the main work. However, I also think that this is not the case that is discussed in this topic.

They just noticed that he was playing, but if he had done it secretly, like thousands of the same workers in completely different workplaces, he would have continued to work quietly further at his workplace. Thanks to this story, many will now think about whether it is worth playing where it is prohibited in order to lose their jobs. Of course, there will be those who can easily find a new job, unless of course there is a note that the employee was fired for playing. Then after this, no one will want to hire him at all. In general, it is better to play at home and in a relaxed state than to strain and make even less profitable bets due to the constant fear of being discovered.
If you notice that he is gambling, then this completely changes the "rules of the game". Then it would be quite natural to fire such an employee. He should perform his duties at work, and not engage in gambling. Now the situation has become clearer, otherwise I somehow did not fully understand what happened.

And why not play at home? Is gambling really that addictive? Most likely, it is so, if a person cannot stop doing it even at work.

Of course, I do not know what nuances there are in the laws regarding cryptocurrencies, but it seems to me that the main reason for the dismissal was an online game. In this case, the bank's head of the dismissed employee had the right to assume the risks that the employee might be exposed to gambling addiction. As a result, it is possible that an employee could take some kind of loan to a front person and lose it. Or otherwise damage the bank because of your passion for the game. Online games, like gambling, can lead to gambling addiction.

During work hours, we can leave all that's concerned with gambling and focus on what is important, during break you can choose to go out and play a little or just rather leave the whole gaming idea till you get home. What about the moment when you are at work, but has nothing to do? When you have done every possible task, but can leave and go home? Or when your next job stage depends on the work others do -  for example you wait for other employee to finish managing table and send you data? Usually, during such moments employees read news or scroll their social pages. That is also not very acceptable by employers, but they close eyes on that. If "reading news, scrolling social media = not working", and "gambling = not working", then why only in second case employee was or should get fired.

For example right now I am waiting for database to maintain data, so that I could export it to excel and work with it. It might take from 15 to few hours to complete. While I am waiting, I am reading this forum, but also I could open casino page and "wait" there. Should I be fired for that?

Well crypto wouldn't really have anything to do with it and if the main reason is just because of gambling using crypto then it certainly doesn't make sense because crypto is just digital currency that is adopted for certain uses including gambling, but basically if the rules are clear then it all becomes the boss policy to do anything including dismissal.
If we talk about harming the bank maybe only in terms of declining performance but basically as long as someone gambles during work breaks like at lunch time then it won't affect anything, besides no one knows if he is an addict or not.

If crypto wasn't involved, do you think this employee would have gotten fired?

Well I don't think this is a point of hate on cryptocurrency considering the presume rivalry of btc and fiat since bank is concerned but this is about negligence against due diligence. That layed off banker would have left traces that his gambling or life style after work hour was affecting his performance. In fact, they might have perceived him as a gambling addict that doesn't pay adequate attention to work details and customers, he may have being found wanting that made all the management members to decide letting him go. He would have been seen checking up on his phone series of times with complaints coming from colleagues even if he was not actually gambling but he would be addicted to his phone. For me, I don't believe an online addict gambler won't have to check on his phone during 8am - 4/5pm work hours for a week on a stretch, this is not possible  Grin.

If his performance was top notch then they won't take such decision and the illusion of crypto and fiat rivalry is adequately out of place because I have not read anywhere that banks had meeting on laying off workers found gambling with crypto.

In fact, his case is like a drunk whose performance at work is always affected because he is always found intoxicated. Of course, he would be sacked.
It would really be just that too shallow if they will really be just making those firing their employee if they wont really be seeing something serious or simply needs up some immediate action. If they do find out that your gambling activity is already coming into a point on which it is really that on the severe side then its normal that they would really be having those presumptions that it might getting worst even more as the time passes by and just like on what everyone is really that assuming into this point that on the moment that it do gets worst then there's the possibility that it would really be that having that kind of involvement on using up banks funds if a certain person or employee wont be able to control their gambling urge on which they will really be trying out to suppress out these things while its still early. If there are some alleged about some legal violations that it is really that attached into this one then it wont really be that shocking that there would really be that specific consequences to that, im not really just that aware on whats the laws about cryptocurrency on the said country whether they are really that against with it or not, but actually the reasons isnt really just that being too clear.

I really didn't get your point on this. Are you in the view that it was a wise decision to sack him because they suspected that he was gambling with crypto without evidence just for the hate of fiat or that they actually would prove that his attitude at work would have been causing a slow down to his performance at work because that is my view. I believe an addict would definitely go have a check on his phone to see what games he could have a stake on or to have a check on what is going on on the casino app and that could slow down his work. That is my view but I didn't get what you are trying to say buddy.

gambling is different from auctions or buying and selling, wherever gambling is prohibited in a company if caught then they will be dismissed, maybe rules have been made and gambling is strictly prohibited for employees because it can affect employee performance, this incident is not only in Korea and in my country there are also employees who are dismissed because they are involved in gambling,
Is gambling legal in your country? And those people who get dismissed gamble during work hours, break time, or when they are in their own comfort zone?

I'm asking because if gambling is legal in the country, the company can only restrict their employees not to gamble on their work premises, but whatever's done after that moment should be any of their concern unless they notice their behaviour having a negative impact on them towards their attitude to work.

gambling is not legal in my country, if they play during breaks and do not interfere with work I think the dismissal will not take place, he was fired because of poor performance, involved in debt and the most sad thing is that his wife's assets were mortgaged for gambling capital, this case went to the company and the company did not approve of this and after being investigated he had been given warnings several times by the company, the last his wife reported that her husband was no longer conducive to working together in finance

If gambling is not legal in your country, which means the man is even committing offences for gambling and should have another problem one side with the law.

On the other hand, with the full explanation that you just gave, I see no reason to blame the company management for dismissing him since his gambling activities have gotten out of hand. What he needs is help before he will expand his problem from not just affecting the family but also the company that hires him.

It is normal if the company fired their employee because a simple matters because that happens in many countries so we don't have to think much about that. Even if he can control himself in gambling, he can lose control and cause him losing his money. When a gambler lose their money, there will be a wanting to recover their losses so that means they can disturb their work in the office. The company will reminds their employee before they make a decision to that employee so the employee must be realize that they are works in an office so they don't have to use their time in office to playing gambling. They must realize that they have more time to playing gambling especially when they are in home.

When an activity is illegal, the person who wants to do it should not be so brazen as to do it in their own work. For me it shows a lack of Professionalism, ethics and maturity. I do not see any problem in playing. You can do it with Computer tools to Protect yourself, but you should not expose yourself. The company, according to what they have to comply with, should have done so in a forced manner because if they end up in the hands of controlling Entities , the Company pays for someone's mistake. But a country's perception of the game is thanks to its Rulers who , in the end , are the ones who set the rules, which sometimes do not even serve.

I feel the man might be an addicted gambler because he should have waited to close from work before gambling, maybe the manager is scared that the employee will one day use the company money to gamble just like what some people usually do. I don't support the fact that he was gambling on duty in the work premises.

I don't agree with the dismissal, but unfortunately the bank will want employees who are more worthy of their role. The bank may have assessed the player's conduct as a threat to the institution.
Did he do this during the work process? If so, then it would be quite reasonable to fire this employee. Otherwise, I am on the side of the employee who is not guilty of anything, and this was the reason for the dismissal. Well, they just found something to cling to. You can't go to court empty-handed. So they found an explanation. A fairly banal case. This happens every day. Only the court became a third party and that is why this case received such resonance.
Well, even if we conclude that the employee has nothing to be guilty about, but the fact remains that the employer is more powerful than the employee. So no matter how hard he will defend himself, as long as he’ll be the target of his employer for a dismissal, obviously the employee can’t do nothing about it, because even the court can be bought by its employer, just saying.
Not to mention that, even if the employee sued the bank, the bank would never hire this employee again. So the bank will never lose out.

It's a fact today that a large part of the population is increasingly gambling and increasing the number of bets. This is not exclusive to this case, however, most don't gamble during working hours so as not to compromise their performance or they gamble without their boss knowing.

I believe that this type of news will become increasingly common (unfortunately).

Many the employer has seen him countless times gambling and has given him some warnings but he couldn't listen. I know that people are being warned before getting fired except in a case that could tarnish the organization or the company's reputation. It is not a good habit for someone to be gambling at work especially in the bank where customers can come in to lay complains. In the Bank setting ms, gambling is never advisable because if any customer gets to know about that, they may be scared that there money could be use for betting without the customer knowing.

If crypto wasn't involved, do you think this employee would have gotten fired?
It is really difficult to give an opinion on this matter whether he would have been fired from his job even if crypto was not involved. Because there are many facts that matter here, such as what their company policy says, what is in their company policy about gambling. Because if you look at it, gambling is still not considered right in many countries of the world. In most countries and organizations, there is a negative perception about gambling and this is seen a lot.
So it could be that he was fired just because of gambling. I don't think the crypto involved here matters much because currently, most online casinos accept crypto deposits.

In my opinion, not only crypto, but using local currency is also an undignified act, and I strongly agree that the bank employee was sent to prison, this step is to prevent theft of money in the future, this is just my assumption

If a bank client really sees a bank employee gambling during working hours, and even at the workplace, then this will clearly make a negative impression of the bank as a whole. And if the employee really was warned by the employer, but he did not give up such behavior and his gambling, then of course the employer must fulfill the promise and fire him.
Of course, you are also right that dismissal follows warnings and in the event that the employee did not listen to them.
And the second option is image dismissals, which follow immediately after some obvious negative behavior of the employee. For example, he commits a crime and the employer finds out about it. Naturally, the bank cannot afford to keep employees with a dubious reputation.

When a thing turns habitual surely it'll kill time. One such thing had taken place with employee. It is not about gambling, as said whatever he had done apart from his assigned task during the work hours is going to stop his productivity as well as the progress of the firm. This is well understood by the Boss and he had fired the employee.
Yes, all bad habits that are done during working hours will indeed result in decrease in worker productivity, especially if it is gambling activity, they will not focus on what to do because an employee must really maintain professional attitude and of course it is their own risk when the leadership takes some harsh consequences to their worker that makes mistakes.
But in context like this, no one will really know the truth except from the leader himself and his workers, anyone can lie.
It's wrong for employees to engage in some activity during work hours but they still have their lives to live, they can do something at times during their free period during work time or break time, the nature of the job matters and so long as it doesn't affect their job performance, they are good to go in my opinion

Even this guy in the OP claimed that he didn't do it during the work hour and the court did not argue about that except for the use of cryptocurrency. But I wonder when cryptocurrency suddenly becomes an issue in a country like South Korea, if not that the judge is anti-crypto.
It has already been discussed earlier that the mention of cryptocurrency immediately creates negative associations with criminal activity in many people who are completely unfamiliar with it. So it all also depends on how a specific employer or even a judge, as you mentioned, treats cryptocurrency.
I know, it's no news that crypto is being painted black in many spheres, but in this case, I see no reason why a neutral judge would sentence someone due to his crypto involvement in a country like South Korea where cryptocurrency is legal. If not for personal hatred for cryptocurrency, no amount of allegation against crypto use by the employer against the employee should have warranted the judge to deliver such an unfavourable verdict against the employee. This was even painfully off the scope of the suit.
