The best thing to do is to build your bitcoin investment simultaneously with your emergency funds and don't wait to set up your emergency funds because time and the price of bitcoin waits for no one. You can share your discretionary income into three parts, 1/3 for your weekly DCA, 1/3 for building your emergency funds till it gets to three months of your expenses and the last 1/3 for your discretionary consumption. Delay is dangerous.

There are two notable things that people should pick from your statement "price of Bitcoin waits for no one" and "building the emergency funds simultaneously with the investment" Bitcoin is volatile so anyone who's interested in it and got the discretionary funds figure out is good to start buying and building the investment. Building the emergency fund shouldn't be an excuse for delay so far they can be done simultaneously.
And from my understanding, it doesn't even take very very long to build an emergency funds like it takes to build the investment so it shouldn't serve as a delay tactics cause Bitcoin is impatient with fluctuation and could make one miss a good starting point at a cheaper price, imagine missing to buy at $60 and end up buying at 80 or 90k cause of delay.

Before starting investing in bitcoin the only thing to do is to first sort out your basic needs after which the money left with you after sorting out those basic needs should be used to invest in bitcoin immediately. The emergency funds is an important part of our bitcoin investment but those who do not have it available shouldn’t be discouraged not to start buying and investing in bitcoin, they can still get started with bitcoin investment if their discretionary income is ready and as time goes on they can be building the emergency funds along side as they are accumulating and investing in bitcoin. From their discretionary income they can decide how much they want use and buy bitcoin and also how much they will keep for emergency funds building.

Yes, sorting out one's needs is very important because it allows someone to invest in Bitcoin freely without having to panic or sell premature because the reason why people sell premature is because they didn't regard their needs and later when there is nothing to help them attend to their needs, they won't have any option than to sell which is lack of knowledge and understanding. Emergency funds can be gotten from one's discretionary, so it is very necessary for someone to keep an emergency funds if they have a huge discretionary income.

your numbers of holding 6-12 months of cash would be difficult to maintain, even for rich folk since such cash would be losing 5-10% or more per year in value.

That risk of losing your job during those times (2020, 2022) that BTC dropped 50%+ is why you have a "backup fund". You're right that there's an opportunity cost involved, but that's not the same as "cash is losing value." Your backup fund shouldn't be sitting in your checking account, it should be in a HYSA/T-bill etc, which are currently paying ~4% in interest, which is about even or possibly a tad above with 2.5-3% inflation. So, there's an opportunity cost compared to BTC returns, but cash isn't seeing a 5-10% bleed.

This is usually the reason why we most first of all have our discretionary income, with this we are all convinced that we have already settle all our bills and the remaining balance is what we called discretionary income. Then talking about your discretionary income you can be able to invest from here and also build your emergency fund. This discretionary fund have to be divided into three, firstly allocate some certain percentage to your investment, some percentage to your emergency funds and also some percentage for your discretionary consumption, and once all these are done it shows that you are set to invest for a very long term.

Sometimes some people don't lack knowledge, but they did it deliberately thinking that the market will remove based on their mindset, but in such cases I don't consider those people as an investor or rather a trader, because an investor prepare very well before entering the journey or bitcoin investment since the knew that their consistencies matters a lot.

Do we also need basic knowledge before we can able to know the importance of basic needs in our lives and in our everyday activities. You don't need basic knowledge to be able distinguished your basic needs from discretionary income. Does someone need to study before he will know that he needed to replenish his food stuffs, pay his house bill or medical bill after he receives his weekly or monthly income without being told? So if an investor is using money meant for his basic needs to invest in bitcoin doesn't mean he don't know he needed to settled his basic needs first rather he is just being ignorant. Some of these brand new investors knows that it is wrong to neglect their basic needs, they might simply be trying to outsmart the market but in the end, they will still have to sell their bitcoin investment to settle the same basic needs that have neglected which is wrong.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to "non-custodial"

your numbers of holding 6-12 months of cash would be difficult to maintain, even for rich folk since such cash would be losing 5-10% or more per year in value.

Perhaps prior to 2020, the dollar (and so western countries) were experiencing a debasement that was between 2% and 3% per year, or at least it seemed to have had been the case in terms of seemingly regularity of prices for goods/services.

After 2020, the rate of debasement was at least 5-10% per year and perhaps even more.

You can do what you want in terms of keeping so much cash, yet I still assert that if you are brand new to bitcoin and you are building up cash prior to building up bitcoin, you are failing/refusing to recognize/appreciate the value of bitcoin, and even guys who might have irregular cashflows (including unexpected income and/or expenses), it seems quite rare that guys should be holding 6-12 months in cash, especially if he does not have any other investments, yet perhaps in the context of a businessman, there could be some things that he owns, such as capital assets and property related to his business, so various businessmen may well have somewhat unique circumstances that tend to not be very applicable to an overwhelming majority of normal people.

By the way, even on a forum like this, we cannot presume any kind of western income and/or western opportunities for higher wages, and there are a large number of guys who struggle to maintain reasonably high levels of discretionary income so that they can invest in the first place, and so the solution for an overwhelming number of guys participating in this forum who have discretionary income would most likely relate to figuring out reasonable ways to build up both their bitcoin investment and their back up funds... and it would be close to retarded for them to be overly focused on building up back up funds at a speed that is faster and/or greater than building up their bitcoin... and the reality of the matter is that it would most likely be more prudent for them to give greater weight to building up their bitcoin as compared with their back up funds and to ongoingly be keeping themselves marketable and earning an income that gives them sufficient discretionary funds on a regular and ongoing basis.

So there may well guys who are coming brand new into bitcoin and perhaps they have only 1-2 weeks of back up funds, and they can get started building up their bitcoin from where they are at rather than building up their back up funds before getting started in bitcoin, so let's say that such beginner to bitcoin has an income of $20k per year, and expenses that are about $15k per year, so then that means that he has about $100 per week of discretionary income, and he may well get started by putting $33 per week into investing, $33 per week into his back up funds and $33 per week into discretionary consumption, so that after 1 year of investing he would have had invested $1,716 into bitcoin, put $1,716 into his back up funds and discretionarily consumed $1,716.  After 10 years, he would have had built up $17,160 into each, even though he may well might not have had needed to put more than $3,750 into his back up funds, since that would be 3 months of his expenses, and sure maybe he could keep between $3,750 and $5k in back up funds, and it makes more sense to keep greater back up funds (and even to put some of that back up funds money into other assets - that have less of a priority than bitcoin) as his bitcoin investment size gets larger.

Poor people likely have more reason to make sure that they are investing into bitcoin as compared with richer people, even though bitcoin is important for all people, even though richer people might not realize the debasement of the dollar as much or even how great their lifestyle is affected by the debasement of the dollar - that includes the need to invest into something solid like bitcoin, as compared with poorer people... yet one of the problems with poorer people continues to be being able to ongoingly generate enough income to have discretionary funds that they would be able to invest into bitcoin on a regular and consistent basis, and perhaps even in an aggressive way, since if the amounts being invested into bitcoin are small, there may well be some needs for aggressiveness in regards to investing into bitcoin as compared with having the wrong kinds of focuses in terms of holding onto trashy cash that is debasing so fast that it becomes problematic to be holding it, unless the holding of the cash is offset by the holding of a good (and pristine) asset such as bitcoin.

1) Self-Custody is a right.  Resist being labelled as: "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

You are right Sir. Been able to continuously generate income, I mean discretionary income is a major problem for the poor since sometimes, they find it difficult to meet up with there weekly or monthly expenses due to low earnings or not earning at all. This is very much different with the rich folks who are at liberty with money, and can throw it anytime, yet so many of them because of the freedom fail to remain consistent in buying Bitcoin or they lavish there money recklessly on other things that are more of priority to them instead of building up there portfolio, knowing that in ater years, when maybe they might have approached old age, there investments will also help them out.

However, depute the difficulties a poor investor may face, they could still manage to invest in small quantities as they liverage from the freedom the DCA strategy offers, which allows investors to buy slowly at there own pace and what they can afford. It is better to have little than have nothing at all. Hopefully, weeks will turn months, and months years, and years circles, and eventually if they keep buying gradually and HODLing, they would gather something tangible even though it will take them a long time.

There is no way an investor can be able to tell what they will use their emergency funds for because there are different unexpected events or happening that can occur that is beyond their control. Since no one have control of what emergency that will occur in the future, it is not possible for them to tell or predict what kind of emergency that they will use the emergency funds for.
When face with an unexpected events instead to go through financial pressures, it is best to use an emergency funds to salvage the situation.

I am aware of the reasons why some people believe they will be able to anticipate their emergency. However, since emergencies are unforeseen events, people should understand what an emergency is. For this reason, emergency funds are planned for and are crucial because you never know when an emergency might occur. They will serve their purpose and won't affect what you already have because that is one of the mistakes that people who don't have emergency funds will end up selling. And most people are not preparing enough and that is why they sell.

And for that reason, when you want to invest, they will tell you what you need in order to keep your Bitcoin for a long time. You should also keep your emergency funds in mind while you are investing, making sure that the funds are greater than what you need in case of an emergency.

Prediction of emergency might not be exact but trying to or ability to anticipate the area and some common happenings is possible. You can be able to foresee business brake or job loss, medical conditions and some others but you can't foresee the intensity and the particular time.
There're sometimes when people actually prepare for predictable emergencies financially, mentally and otherwise, this in a way don't just becomes easy that you have emergency funds but it becomes easier that you have emergency funds and likewise prepared for this foreseen emergency.

Investing in bitcoin should be for long term that's the only way to overcome short term market trends. Being consistent is good but it doesn't mean to invest even when the person is having financial problems. Investing with money that can be locked away for years should be the aim of all long term investors.

You are right, what actually kills the poor people is making a wrong decision by saving or holding coins that may loses its value I stead of appreciating. The rich ones has a higher advantages to chest inflation without feeling anything, due to many asset they have On ground and they plan their life well by holding bitcoin for long-term growths, while the poor people must react or feels every Inflations because they feels bitcoin is risky, not knowing that thier money that's being hold as sm ash is what is killing them exactly and more riskier.

That's why I love the ideas of at least, even if it's $10 worth of bitcoin someone is buying weekly and be buying it consistently for long periods of over 8 years is better, some people may be seeing it as small investment but when someone in being aggressive with the small discretionary income is much more better than holding cash.

The key to starting a Bitcoin investment is having discretionary income as a tool to capitalize on situations when they arise.
If you rely solely on your daily income, it's very difficult to maintain a balance and avoid problems.

Because this income already serves a purpose, covering daily needs and shouldn't be relied upon for investment, discretionary income plays a crucial role for those investing in Bitcoin. This is especially true for those with long-term intentions and no other options. Having discretionary income allows us to maximize our investment journey until the specified timeframe is reached.

I don't see any need in trying to predicting possible emergency without taken measures on how to overcome those emergency in case those prediction come to manifest  but surely we will encounter challenges or emergencies  but it is wise we plan prior to those moment if at all it happens. However, i have come to realized that some of the emergency or challenge we encounter is caused by an investor because they neglected things they would have done earlier.

even if it's $10 worth of bitcoin someone is buying weekly and be buying it consistently for long periods of over 8 years is better, some people may be seeing it as small investment but when someone in being aggressive with the small discretionary income is much more better than holding cash.

Folks with little discretionary income may find it difficult starting, not to talk of investing aggressively. You know they will need to build emergency funds together, because unexpected problems can just pop out of nowhere. And the little they have of course may not be enough to handle everything at once.

So instead of prioritizing one over the other, it is better to look for ways to create more discretionary income. Once he has a reasonable amount, he can split it and use one part to steadily accumulate Bitcoin. If the income increase later, he can become more aggressive…. As long as he can comfortably afford it and keep in check.

After 2020, the rate of debasement was at least 5-10% per year and perhaps even more.

+1 on everything you wrote but the official inflation is nowhere near 5-10%. It's been between 2.5-3% for more than 2 years now. The inflationary spike was 2021-2022 and officially peaked at almost 9.1% in June of 2022 and has been coming down since then.

If you want to make a compelling argument for BTC, cite "official" inflation, which is wrong anyway since real debasement is higher, M2 growth, asset inflation, currency debasement, etc. Cash loses value over time and BTC is the better option to HODL long term. That way you don't have to make it seem like inflation is 5-10% when it's not.

your numbers of holding 6-12 months of cash would be difficult to maintain, even for rich folk since such cash would be losing 5-10% or more per year in value.

Where to keep the backup fund is certainly important. But the main purpose of the backup fund is not to earn interest. In the case of Bitcoin investment, it is advisable to keep a backup fund so that investors can protect their investment in case their income stops, medical issues arise, job loss occurs or emergency expenses arise. In such a situation, if the investor does not have liquid funds, then despite his long-term mindset, he may be forced to sell Bitcoin.

Another thing is that HYSA or T-bill may not be equally available or practical for investors in all countries. That is why when we discuss backup funds, we do not actually think about returns, but rather liquidity and accessibility are more important to us.

You are right that the value can decrease due to cash inflation. But if you are forced to sell in an emergency situation (especially during a price drop), the loss can be even greater.

Cases like this is why emergency funds is included in every investment journey. So predicting if there will be emergency in an investment journey is just like not taking your investment serious, so rather make provision for it.

So as you making provisions for your investment, you should also be making provisions emergency funds. Every successful investment needs emergency funds because emergencies is part of our life.

Every investment journey requires an investor to have an emergency fund but why do you say that this money is needed only for investment, emergency fund is necessary to prevent your job or economic downturn. It is advisable to have a backup fund in case of Bitcoin investment because while investing in Bitcoin, your country's local currency earnings may suddenly decrease which may cause Bitcoin investment to stop, while investors will be able to use emergency funds to invest without any stress. The point is that this emergency fund acts as a hedge against unexpected times.

Basically we should use continuous income or discretionary income to invest Bitcoin, as a result it becomes possible to purchase even fractional amounts of Bitcoin regularly, paving the way to patiently accumulate a substantial amount of Bitcoin in one's portfolio over the long term.

Discretionary income is important in starting to invest in bitcoin because it will be wrong to use money for basic needs and to invest in bitcoin. The amount used for investing in bitcoin must not be fixed but rather it should always reflect an investor financial capacity as it is possible for investors income to vary.
Investing in bitcoin should be for long term that's the only way to overcome short term market trends. Being consistent is good but it doesn't mean to invest even when the person is having financial problems. Investing with money that can be locked away for years should be the aim of all long term investors.

The money that is already needed for daily needs, bills, food or family expenses is not actually discretionary income. Discretionary income is the extra money that remains after all your necessary expenses are met, which if not used will not affect your lifestyle.

You need to plan long-term in Bitcoin investment. Therefore, buying Bitcoin with the necessary money can become a pressure decision rather than an investment. Later, if the donation decreases or an emergency occurs, you may be forced to sell. Even then, even if you have a DCA strategy, it will not last. Therefore, it is recommended to invest with discretionary income after setting aside your necessary expenses.

You are right, what actually kills the poor people is making a wrong decision by saving or holding coins that may loses its value I stead of appreciating. The rich ones has a higher advantages to chest inflation without feeling anything, due to many asset they have On ground and they plan their life well by holding bitcoin for long-term growths, while the poor people must react or feels every Inflations because they feels bitcoin

You are quoting sir JJG wrongly, because your statement is somehow different from his opinion about poor people and I don't think if that's what he meant. His points were very clear, that one of the major problems poor people or poor investors face is the ability to always figure out what there discretionary income is to enable them ongoingly investing into Bitcoin even though they might want to be buying in little amounts unlike the rich people who find it easier to invest. Meaning that the poor people would always want to do there best to buy Bitcoin always with the little they can afford, finding possible ways to grow there portfolio which is not always easy for them, unlike the rich that does that some how freely.

The rich ones has a higher advantages to chest inflation without feeling anything, due to many asset they have On ground and they plan their life well by holding bitcoin for long-term growths,

Sure, because they have the liverage and are advantaged because they are rich, but in so many other cases, it doesn't work that way because some rich folks also fail to HODL there investment for a longer time. So it's not always true. Some rich folks live a reckless lifestyle and spend extravagantly on unimportant things rather than get serious and strict with there investment and/or building there portfolio. Most at times, they also have a problem of having a proper income allocation and/or income management. This accounts for there reckless spending not been able to HODL there coins.

That's why I love the ideas of at least, even if it's $10 worth of bitcoin someone is buying weekly and be buying it consistently for long periods of over 8 years is better,

The volatile of Bitcoin may not allow us to be certain of how long to HODL Bitcoin that will yield us good profits, either 4-8 years or above that circle and even more, maybe 10-12 years or above. But HODLing is a good investment practice surely. Thats why it is always advised to come into Bitcoin with an investment mindset rather than trading, and also ensuring to buld up your back up funds properly to enable you HODL for longer period.

This is very real, because it is very difficult for people who do not have money to start investing in Bitcoin. Because if they do not have money, they cannot invest even if they want to, and they cannot take out loans to invest. It is especially difficult for people with low incomes to invest in Bitcoin, because their needs are always there. It is very difficult to satisfy their needs and invest in Bitcoin. If I say from my perspective, I do not come from a high-income family and I do not come from a middle-class family either. I come from a low-income family. I understand how difficult it is for me to invest, because when I get a monthly salary, that salary is spent on the needs of the family, there is no extra money to save. So I can honestly say that it is very difficult for people who do not have money to invest.
