Was Bitcoin a second thought or an omission? Some pundits said he just mentioned these altcoins since Bitcoin and Ethereum are already the main reserve currency. These politicians are just unpredictable that you cannot hold them by their words. You are right, it should be crypto and not Bitcoin reserve. I will not be surprised it $Trump and $Melania coins are added to the reserve in future.

Instead of thinking in such a negative way, why don't we think in a more positive way that bitcoin and ETH are obvious and don't need to be mentioned too many times? Yesterday, after I saw that news, in my mind I wondered why they want to add these altcoins to strategic reserve and not just BTC and ETH. I never doubted BTC and ETH would not be picked because they are the default.

We need to remember one thing, he once declared that he would make the United States the crypto center of the world, he supports the development of the crypto industry, not just bitcoin. The government is not like us, what they care about is the crypto industry, not just bitcoin.

Also, if I remember correctly, he previously mentioned considering adding XRP and SOL to the national reserves alongside BTC and ETH.  This idea is not new and yesterday he just repeated what he said but maybe people have forgotten.

-snip-
Check again; it has been deleted. The post including BTC and ETH can no longer be found just shortly after we saw it. What could have happened?
This whole thing feels like one big market manipulation operation, or is it just me being paraonid? Either way, it looks like the post is back (five minutes ago):

https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114093946326587357
Was just about to make a whole new thread about something everyone who heard of this news speculated on how this could of been a planned market manipulation with a trader making a 50x long within a day of the crypto strategic reserve announcement on several of those coins within this area of concern:

https://x.com/Ashcryptoreal/status/1896059260150464839
This individual made nearly a billion dollars on these two long trades alone.

You are certainly not paranoid. Individuals who are observing these occurrences via blockchain(s) from certain wallets are displaying some sort of insider trading happening while all these announcements and people in the SEC who are placed there are signing off on leaving certain crypto projects alone.

What I find quite peculiar is the addition of other coins. XRP and SOL are categorized as memecoins, are they not? They might be the coins doing well today but until when will it do well? This also gives a lot of acknowledgment to the memecoin sector which I am not the biggest fan of. I would like to see how this turns out in the future.

Neither of them are memecoins. SOL can be attached to the "memecoins" because of pump.fun being the biggest memecoins platform out there, but the coin itself is not a memecoin.

I also believe there are plans to pass a law to prevent politicians from creating their memecoins. I'm not sure if the law has passed or not, but I think it's a great start. There's  just way too many scams by politicians and celebrities rugging everyone, all the time.

I don’t like that it includes altcoins in the basket either, but if it picks the top ones, as it seems, and gives more weight to Bitcoin relative to its market cap, at the very least, it won’t be too bad.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-03-01/trump-will-host-crypto-summit-at-the-white-house-next-friday

On March 7, the White House will host the first-ever Crypto Summit, sponsored by Trump, with top industry leaders in attendance. The summit will be chaired by cryptocurrency expert David Sachs.

Certainly, this (shitcoins included) is much better than the EU, where they continue pushing the launch of CBDCs and the implementation of the MiCA regulation. It’s like night and day.

I don't think diversifying the reserve portfolio as Trump announced would be a good idea: First, because these currencies are controlled by a central authority, so it is always risky to buy large amounts at huge amounts, in addition to the possibility of whales manipulating them. Second, because buying large amounts of any of these currencies would give them the ability to manipulate the market and users may lose confidence in them for this reason. I believe that Bitcoin is the only one that is suitable for the state to store as a reserve.

In just 1 day after the announcement made by Trump, the market experienced a deep decline, after previously holders considered this to be positive news or a breath of fresh air for the crypto world, especially to make Bitcoin prices return to a new ath, but who would have thought that the next day, Monday to be precise, the market began to experience a deep decline until it is currently at $83k, BTC was immediately hit by sell pressure, a severe dump.

Trump tariffs damaged the market in a short time, there was a massive sale when there should have been a price increase due to good news the previous day, increasingly feeling something was wrong with this.

^ Because it's "US-made", that would be the answer for me  Grin

"U.S. made"? Is that the reason?

Let's start with the shitcoin ADA.
 - Cardano Foundation is located in Zug, Switzerland
 - Cardano Blockchain is registered in England
 - The software company behind the "network" is registered in Hong Kong

Solana, although their headquarters is the United States, their foundation is also localed in Zug, Switzerland.

Ripple is probably the only "U.S. made" company, but that doesn't matter because it's a shitcoin.

Putting those cryptocurrencies in one basket with Bitcoin would absolutely devalue its status.

Well honestly, I didn't expect that to happen either, because for me, even if it was just Bitcoin that was being made into reserves, I'm okay with it because I know it would have a big impact..

But the fact that Ethereum and others are also going to be included is a bit unexpected, though it's okay to make ETH a reserve as well, but maybe for others it's not yet the right time.

We are surprised and unhappy with Trump's idea of strategic crypto reserves because we always put Bitcoin first and consider it the only currency with value in the market, the rest of the market is just garbage and scam. But maybe Trump or the government doesn't see it the way we think, for them, as long as they can use it and benefit them, they won't ignore it even if it's not the best. Our interests and the government's are not the same, so it is no surprise that they always have different choices than we do.

As some have pointed out, ADA, ETH or SOL have one thing in common: they are all headquartered in the US and are labeled as USA coins on CMC or Coingecko. Clearly, Trump had his own calculations when choosing them and we still do not know his real purpose.

Are you guys dismayed? What for? What were you guys expecting? You guys wanted sincerity from a politician?
In the history of man, politicians are always like that, they say something else and do the opposite after they have gotten the position they want.
Did you guys miss the updates of the support he got for his inauguration fund from those altcoins? XRP donated up to $5 million for his inauguration fund and they came first on his list of crypto for reserve.

Those were the biggest shitcoins there ever will be. They will die with time and I pity those that will built their fortune around that and the meme named after the wife. Those who are smart will simply use them to make money by selling at the peak of the hype and move to something more reliable like Bitcoin and the other coins mentioned in the proposed Crypto Strategic Reserve.

Of course, at first glance, it seems that this move supports the crypto market and the industry as a whole. However, the political motives remain undisclosed, which is why debates arise around this decision—especially knowing what kind of businessman Trump is. It’s even scary to think about what he might be trying to do with crypto.

Friday is the day. Buckle up.

According to Howard Lutnick (Commerce Secretary) (who's very bullish on bitcoin btw)[1] Trump is going to Unveil details about the Bitcoin Strategy reserve this Friday on Crypto Summit (which by the way, Michael Saylor has been invited to).

Lutnick suggested Bitcoin would receive unique status under Trump’s plans.

“A Bitcoin strategic reserve is something the President’s interested in. He spoke about it all during the campaign trail, and I think you’re going to see it executed on Friday,” Lutnick said.

“So Bitcoin is one thing, and then the other currencies, the other crypto tokens, I think, will be treated differently—positively, but differently,” he added.

Political motives are not going to be disclosed by Trump or his supporters, but if you have a sharp eye, it's obvious that someone is making millions is not billions from those meme coins that they have and maybe the announcement last Sunday that pump the price of Bitcoin to $95k and then decline.

In any case, market seems to be on another bounce today, and now at $90k'ish and probably waiting for the Bitcoin reserve this Friday. So let's wait and see, it's just the market has already started and by Friday if everything looks and sounds good, maybe we can see $95k or higher.

OK, I truly hope the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve will be separate from the government's shitcoin reserve, and that the announcement will only be about Bitcoin. Those shitcoin founders that lobbied to include ADA, XRP, and SOL in the Strategic Reserve want the status for their shitcoins to be the same as Bitcoin, WHICH as I already posted, WILL devalue the status of Bitcoin.

Someone trustworthy from the Bitcoin community should be Trump's advisor in these matters.

I do agree about bitcoin and ethereum being part of the reserve. I think that it can be a good addition since these are the two biggest cryptocurrencies and had proven themselves to be useful to investors and users alike. They have been the longest standing cryptocurrencies as well and many truth them.

Bitcoin is a good choice, no doubt and it's common sense that everyone agree that Bitcoin is a best choice for Strategic Reserves.

Both Ethereum, Ripple and Solana are not good because they have unlimited supplies. Ethereum with decreasing on chain transaction demands recent months by more expensive fee and less competitive with other blockchains, has big issues that new supply is bigger than burn ETH from fees. It makes total supply scheme of Ethereum is inflationary and unlimited until any big change happens technically and on chain transaction demand.

Nearly same for Solana and with Ripple, it's considerable centralization of XRP in Ripple company, they can unlock it and dump it on the market any time.

They are simply the coins that are centralized more and have US origins, so to speak. Being big caps and all.

And SOL itself is no memecoin at all, imo. It's just heavily associated with them.

Trump's announcement didn't cover the question of whether the Bitcoin reserve will be separated from the altcoins reserve. But my own position is that it will be just one reserve and it will contain all the mentioned coins. Trump's inclusion of these altcoins might have increased the values and reputation of these altcoins, but they will never be at the same value or level as Bitcoin. Centralized coins have lapsed, and the government will soon find out. Bitcoin is fully decentralized, making it the most difficult coins to manipulate.

I do think the gov is more interested in the coins that are centralized than those that are, that would be pretty easy to get why it is so.. Grin

I can't say I was not expecting this with the people that were around him and Eric Trump. XRP Founder, Cardano's Founder etc. I do find it stupid, because not even ADA holders use ADA but well...

EDIT: Bitcoin and Ethereum are also going to be included in the strategic reserve.

What are your thoughts on this?
<snip>

That is way too strange mate, Like trump is considering the altcoins as Strategic Reserve because, in my point of view, only Bitcoin has the potential right to be added to strategic reserve as it is a digital gold but I/we don't know what kinda plan Trump have all behind this, as we saw his recent tweet about this and ada pump to 2x price from its trading value, Currently market sentiments are also strange like in recent time we have seen how fast market is dumping and recovering its value back above to 92k. So, it is hard to time it like what are the correct plan of Trump all behind this adding altcoins to the Strategic Reserve.
