When I recently joined the forum, I sometimes make researches to know more about Bitcoin and out of excitement of learning new things I never knew about Bitcoin, I would want to create a topic with the hope that I'm imparting knowledge to forum members but at the end, I get backlash from majority of people here telling me that such topics have already been discussed and that there was nothing new about it. As a result of the unexpected reactions, I most times end up having low self esteem and losing my confidence to interact with people here. The resulting effect made leave the forum for a very long time until a day I finally picked up courage to drop this post here under the topic "Hi, I'm new here". That very day, I got a very encouraging reply for legendary member that helped me to develop interest in learning more about Bitcoin as well as engage in insightful conversations with more meaningful and impactful submissions (I'm still developing my knowledge though).

So as a newbie, you should understand that most of the new things you learn about Bitcoin are already known to over 85% of members of the forum and as such, it must have formed a topic that was created and discussed on the forum by someone else which is why it is very important you make use the search button to research about any topic you intend to create here before posting.

I don't want you to make the kind of mistakes I made and that's why I'm putting this up here, I hope at the end someone learns from it.

No one knows everything so if you are genuinely posting something out of excitement to share a piece of knowledge that you feel will be helpful for others then don't let the negative reactions to discourage you. Everyone started same as you from scratch and with different people all over the world, might see things differently and why some users discourage is to avoid the users who are merit fishing.

We are here to learn, sometimes it's about bitcoin and sometimes it's about forum so just take things as positives and make use of it. Kudos for bringing back your courage and I hope this will boost you more. Smiley

*Not yet legendary though.

If you genuinely didn’t know that similar topic already exists, then it’s okay. As long as you’re not violating any forum rules. It only becomes an issue if you just like copypaste or slightly rephrase an existing topic just to meet signature campaign quotas or to increase you post count.

But yes I still agree for this legendary members since that is a good point about researching before posting, but we are not obligated to do so. If thread is a duplicate or same topic posted, members can simply report to moderator it and let the moderators decide whether to lock it or not.

Honestly, it’s not actually a big deal for me if one has mistakenly create a new topic which has been discussed already numerous times. You can’t certainly search the forum threads one by one that’s why sometimes, same topics have been raised already in the forum more than once.

My point is, as long as the topic would catch our attention and would leave reliable information most particularly for the newbies, hence it’s something that should be share of in order to remind those who have forgotten it already and refresh their learning about it.

A well known statement in this forum is "Grow a thicker skin" you just have to learn that not every thing you see is what discussing as a new topic, as much as the forum have lasted for a long time it roughly 16 years then whatever has happened in this years must have been discussed in the forum but if it's a new update then it's likely not discussed.

This should be taking note of not just to you but to other members of such ranks.

First of all if there are New Users that know not all and have questions about the Forum and Bitcoin and all around that its better when they ask on a new Topic made from them.
Not everyone is aware of all the Saerch Options and things that older Usere already know and use.

With that new Topic if they are honest about it they will be learn more and faster as they dont ask.
Mostly it just takes a few posts where they will be getting there answers and Links about they are searching for.

You have to make mistakes to learn , the question here is if you want to learn , some are Lazy thats right but nothing will be come to you if dont invest something.

Best example in the last 7 years is how often i warned Users from Malware and Fake Links in a lot of ways here and there are still old and new Users that making that mistakes.

It is hard for newbies to come into the forum and use the search engine to see him the topic that they wanted to post has already been posted by someone earlier. They're too eager to draw your attention to them thinking that's the best way out. However, as time passes on and you are always active in the forum, you will learn a lot and will not forget to use the search engine. If you're a member in this forum, you must have a thick skin so that you can tolerate forum members replies and grow fast.

So as a newbie, you should understand that most of the new things you learn about Bitcoin are already known to over 85% of members of the forum and as such, it must have formed a topic that was created and discussed on the forum by someone else which is why it is very important you make use the search button to research about any topic you intend to create here before posting.
Sometimes even though the topic you like to discuss has already been previously discussed your approach and perspective towards the same topic may be different and may still be very valuable to us here, so after going through your research and discovering that there is a topic similar to yours it will be wise for you to read it to know if it conveys the same message or points or satisfies the question that you have to ask to know if you can ask your own in the own manner that you want to or get to abandon the topic. If a subject, you wish to discuss or you have an interest in has already been discussed before but not to your taste and has not satisfied your curiosity it is okay to start a topic again because there are many new people in the forum that would also benefit from it.

In order to stay away from plagiarism unknowingly that the topic you created on your one has been existed here, it will help if use the search space before proceeding.
Although as it may concern newbies it will be difficult for them to play this part efficiently and moreover, newbies mostly tends to ask personal questions about their journey on bitcoin which related topic may have existed.
That would be tolerated as the case maybe that the formal topic might be similar but can't be the same with the others own. Psychologically it feels overwhelming for newbies to open a thread and see senior members engaging on their discussions which is just like yours Op.
In other words, newbies who are not sure of what information they are passing to the forum should make proper research of it before posting here rather, they should rely more of their learnings in asking questions and reading.

It is important to do a search first, especially if the nature of the information provided is related to general knowledge that can be searched by most people. The consideration may be that new members want to provide additional or updated information that may not have been discussed in the thread. The information may be meaningful. Moreover, if the information shared actually already exists, when new members do a search first. They can read the topic as a whole and will definitely get additional information that will be useful to them. There's nothing wrong with doing a search first, it's actually not difficult to do.

As far as the forum is concerned, and there are new users who keep entering the forum as newbies; there will be recurring topics or information because of that. Some newbies will create a new topic out of the excitement of what they have recently learned about Bitcoin, not knowing that it has been talked about before.

Although some of those topics may be of help to those who might not come across those topics in the forum before. I am sure not every thousands of topics existing in the forum, that everyone in the forum has come across before. There are some topics that the old members of the forum haven't come across before. Creating such a topic as a new one will put them through it even though it has been talked about in the forum.

We are not making this as a way to instill fear in the heart of newbies, but by the way of my understanding on what spamming is, when a topic has been discussed and forgetting, then for another person to still go about the same subject matter creating another thread to erupt discussion on same thing that has been once discussed is not fit for here, that is why this forum is moderated and you can see some members referring to the old and existing threads on that same subject matter already been discussed.

In a little time, this topic will be long pushed down to the bottom of this beginners board and it will be meaningless just as if it never exited and long before you know it, you will definitely see newbies that will come and make just the exact mistake you are talking about. There's a sticky thread on this board for "Newbies - Read before posting" In the the thread, there's links to other important threads to learn from such as the Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ and many more.
If newbies can not read those sticky threads, do you think it's this your own they will learn from. Seems a lot of newbies are just looking for shortcuts to become an expert on the forum.

The truth is that most of us here pass through all this stages ( criticism) before getting to where are now , yeah it is normal to get some harsh reply from some users here but don’t let it weigh you down , we are all here to learn from each other , no one knows it all there is always a space to learn new things in this space that one of the main reason am a big fan of this space.

Yeah it is indeed necessary to make some research before bringing any topic up , so that you won’t end up misleading others without you knowing , thinking you where trying to impact or bring some valuable information to them , just keep learning and growing .

If you are new to the world of crypto or Bitcoin, it is natural that you will have various new questions. Since this forum is very old and has millions of members, new topics are created here every day. And because of this, most of the questions that arise among newcomers have already been discussed here.

So if you have a question, first search Google by typing the main point of it and then search for Bitcointalk. Then if a related topic is already open, you will get the Bitcointalk topic link in Google search results. Then you don't have to create a similar topic again.

Seeking for knowledge is continuous and what has been posted here before and has taking a while does not mean it cannot be repeated again. Some informations are so important that when allowed to go into exile, will affect some newbies that knows nothing about it, they may fall victim before knowing and trying to avert it. Spamming repeatedly same thing is not cool here, it makes the whole board looks shitty. An information that is important to know will be welcomed whenever it is posted here. You can also find users calling the attention to something to take note of more even if it has been posted before, they’re warning because of the severity of it and what it will cause if not shared for the community to know. You may also want to add one or two to a topic that have been created before that is informative when shared, so such is not a problem here.

if your intent of creating a topic is for something necessary, there will be less need to make research on the topic first before posting it. if for instance you are experiencing a difficulty getting a particular thing done and needs the help of forum member, even if a similar thread had been created in the past, the peculiarity of your case will make forum members give you a listening hear. the forum is made up of learners and experienced people that are still learning. regardless of the category of people you fall under, your contribution and question is very much useful to keep the forum running.

if you are completely new to both the forum and the world of crypto, then rather than creating thread to educate people that are more experience than you, it is better to learn in silent till you have gained enough knowledge that places you at a place of rendering advice to those coming behind.

Three following topics can help.

To sum up, newbies need to read before posting, learn before posting to teach other members including newbies in this forum. They need to learn of using searching well, because with efficient searching, they will be able to read and learn better.

First research is very important and for sure you are right that one needs to do further research before contributing to a topic so that you avoid repeating what others have said and also being able to add something new to the discussion.

This is very important for everyone here not just newbies, and mind you in creating new topics, if it's about current updates and development then you know right away that it hasn't been discussed and you can create a topic for such development, but before each topic creation, make sure to use the search engine first.

The mistake most newbies make is that they are so focused on trying to teach people things and the majority of the audience are people more knowledgeable than you so what do you expect them to tell you, do you expect them to lie to you and tell you that they haven't come across such post? They are trying to make you improve and do better. Newbies are supposed to be learning and not teaching what they don't know so that was the mistake you made and instead of you to be take corrections you felt discouraged by the backlash and gave up.

The high rank members have nothing to lose and they have learned a lot already so giving up won't affect anyone but you.
