I'd like to know if I'm the only one who has the habit of playing video game matches for money. I usually play Street Fighter 6, and almost every week there are money matches in a best-of-10 format, with stakes ranging from $2 to $10. The matches are usually streamed live on Twitch and YouTube, where viewers can donate to add to the total prize pool for the winner... It's pretty interesting, and when money is on the line, the matches feel completely different.

How do you even get into this scene? Presumably there is some sort of website you go to that connects players or is it all done through the streaming platforms directly? Seems like a growing market but one that might sit in a bit of a grey area of regulation in some countries like the USA. I guess when people get huge amounts of viewers and end up spending thousands of dollars redeeming virtual loot boxes in games like counter strike and call of duty, this is small fry in comparison. It definitely makes people concentrate on improving and sticking around in a game when there is a money on the line, sometimes people quit far too easily when playing intense games like streetfighter but impossible looking comebacks can happen with the right combo streak.

I do not usually bet on video game matches because they are far to easy to manipulate. For example, imagine a guy using aimbot or wallhacks or something. If he does not get caught, you will lose your bets unless you bet on him. Or he makes his own bets on himself.

But maybe there are ways to regulate these kinds of things so that this does not happen. As I said, I am not really a video game gambling kind of guy.

Videogames is something we enjoyed during childhood and we do have side bets when playing. It was really fun and entertaining and that is what I call gambling for fun because the money we stake in the game is just small amount which we happily lose without any feeling of remorse.
Those amounts were very small then based on our age and the kind of money we have, and it's always fun to be playing, and we laugh and enjoy games like that until one person becomes a constant winner in the game, which all the bets are now being won by one person. That's where you will start hearing of the person being accused of using cheat codes, etc., and it's either the game can end before we plan for it to end or some will angrily stop playing.

Mortal Kombat is a game I played so much while little. My favourite character was sub-zero.

Technology makes everything better. In the betting part this is more of skill than any luck. The best player wins in the end. From what I understand now, the money staked is different from the prize pool for the winner.

Can people also get addicted to this type of gambling too? If you think about it, the stake that ranges between $2-10 is high enough for someone to consider it and also still low for the person to not have any problem staking $2 or $3.

My first fighting game was also Mortal Kombat. I remember the first time I saw the Fatalities, it was really impressive. I was about 8 or 9 years old at the time. Well, getting addicted to it? If you're good enough to win, it's possible. But to be good, it takes a lot of dedication. Playing for money is more about motivation, trying to grab some cash and putting yourself under pressure to get results.

You do have a point but game developers also control the casino, it's easy to connect on multiplayer games. Just like what chess.com is doing. However, people of mutual agreements can raise huge amounts in a sitting, with lesser manipulation. This time players make up the house, and the best wins. Come to think of LeBron James winning $50k off Mario Chalmers in a booray card game while on a boring flight with fellow team mates. A type of win he may not have seen in the online settings till the journey is over. Players go crazy betting on who wins sport games like FIFA. And because gamers are gamblers video game gambling is among the oldest practice of virtual gambling before the online casinos came in. Even in PlayStations bets were going on, casinos just made the whole thing solo, and a lot of people who wouldn't want to be seen, jumped into it and scaled the economy. Yet real gamblers make certain huge amount of money from their gaming skills, with the casino not being exempted. Additionally, slot games boosted the casino, because it required no form of technical prowess, unlike playing an EA sport 25 with a strong opponent, where luck and skill is required. It's thrilling indeed. You could control Messi to score lol. Lastly no KYC...

My favorite is sports betting and some few casino games, I don't bet on video games but I have participated in some local street bets before but it was a long time ago. I don't even have so much time to gamble now unlike I do before and most of the free time I get is spent on watching football fixtures and placing bets on the team I like. If you already have your favorite gambling type that is satisfying that urge you have for gambling, you will not seek so many options.

But maybe there are ways to regulate these kinds of things so that this does not happen. As I said, I am not really a video game gambling kind of guy.

It also seems strange that people would donate money instead of betting it?

These are fighting games, one player bets against the other, and the loser pays the agreed amount to the winner. I think it's practically impossible to have any kind of match-fixing, because the person would be sabotaging themselves.

As for donations, there’s usually a streaming event where a certain amount is raised and then split among everyone involved, since the game has live commentary, time dedicated to the stream, and the players as well. It’s a nice bonus for the match,  donations don’t always happen, but I find this format really interesting. Everything is agreed upon by those involved.

If it is an online game, how can someone be 100% sure that his opponent will pay? It is always possible to abandon account and run away if you lose. Or there is someone who escrow funds? I think as you play it low bet, you havent experience cases when someone refuse to pay. Since the games itself are costly today, paying $2-$10 is something affordable. But if someone loses $1000 in best of 3 fight in just 3 minutes, winner might get problems of receiving his money.

From what the OP described, they have a group of probably reliable players who always play matches
When a community is formed, the users are usually reliable
Also, from what he described, the stakes are around 2 to 10 dollars, so there's no reason for anyone to take a hit for that amount

You described a bet of 1000 dollars, and I think it would be difficult for someone to bet that amount in a community aimed at fun and not professional, but in this case it would be easy to solve, probably the creator of the group, or community administrator could receive the amount in advance and be responsible for paying the winner

The matches are usually streamed live on Twitch and YouTube, where viewers can donate to add to the total prize pool for the winner... It's pretty interesting, and when money is on the line, the matches feel completely different.

Well, agreeing on something is all good and nice but what about the cheaters? I imagine there must be far easier ways to cheat with skill based games than with luck based games (like those in a casino)?

What stops a player from cheating and/or hacking the game? Let's say we play Call Of Duty or some shooter like that and I bet against you to win. I could easily win by using exploits in the game and you might not even notice.

It's my dream to play video matches for money but I didn't know if that was possible. Btw I've never tried live streaming because that's not my thing, I'm too shy for that.

I always loved playing Pro Evolution Soccer and FIFA, I was very good at it and it was always my dream to be able to challenge others and play for money but sadly I haven't seen any PVP video game like this one or like Mortal Kombat to play it online for money. If I'm wrong and such a platform exists, please give me a link to register and play.
Btw if there is a demand, we can play some PVP games if we create a telegram group and chat with each other.

And what exactly do you bet on?

I watched several documentaries about how guys agree in matches that are lower in rank than world championships (like the International in Dota 2). And now I'm afraid to bet on something like that. So now I only bet on those events where a small group of people can't just agree among themselves.
After all, it's really easy to make money there for those who don't want sports interest, and their desire is only money.

He bets on himself playing Street Fighter, whoever wins the series of 10 matches wins the prize which is 2x what he bet
He also commented that spectators can also increase the amount of the bet, in this case will be more than 2x

But as far as I can tell the bet is only between the two players who are fighting, in this way you'll give 101% to win the fights hehehe  Cool

I'm anxious to see you playing criptoevangelista
One question: if eboth players wins five matches, do you consider it a draw and return the bet or is there one more match that will determine the champion?

There’s no way for it to end in a draw, when one player reaches 10 wins, it’s over. In the worst-case scenario, there can be a maximum of 19 matches, meaning a 10–9 score. And I’ll tell you, it happens more often than you’d think, because the first few matches, let’s say 3 or 4, are used to study the opponent and adapt to their playstyle. After that, it really comes down to the player’s ability to reinvent themselves mid-set. In other words, you need to have multiple routes for offense, defense, and reads. Man, it’s so good, it even made me want to play, lol.

Yes I can relate and vividly remembered back then when I and friends goes out to play in the game hall and it has been one of our greatest dreams to have bought game console and we only goes to buy the cartridges because we usually love to play football and the combat tournaments games like the street fighter and mortal Kombat.

I don't like the single play with the AI opponent because I don't find it phone instead I love playing with real friends so we can always keep the memories even after the end of the game.

Always fun but we are not associated it with gambling but though we could think of some common items to stake like eatable and where will always merit the reward.

I am new in this page. It is matter of sorrow that i was not aware about video games where we can earn without investment. Though the amount is too low yet those who wants to pass time and enjoy the game for those it might be a good opportunity and they would be able to stay away from being addicted on gambling.

This type of game is interesting, but the truth is I have no experience nor am I a gamer , but some help could come from people who always play these games , they must know that many of those who play the most or are at the top do not lose, that would be of great help , although Mainly I would see it as a lottery, betting on luck there and let GOD'S will do what he wants, whether you win or lose.

It is correct that those who are experienced may help with the information providing on the forum though I am confused that may help others fully. I think for full learn the person/you should practice and practice there is no other option except practice. God knows what we are doing and whats will be the result and luck is almost impossible to change.

Everyone feels bad when they lost money mate, so video games is not that a exception. But there could be some of us we really are into this kind of one on one games and they got a kick on playing against each other and beating them with money on the line. And this kind of games have evolved a lot since late 2019 if I'm not mistaken. As there are a lot of money right now, in millions, individuals or teams events and it's country vs country. And if I'm not mistaken, it has even been discussed if this kind of games could be considered sports or it could be included in the Olympics.
